We use ours daily. We got the whole set and make Myoplex shakes in it. I use lots of ice and water and it is fine. Is there a smaller version? Ours is blender size. We use it for mixing up golden pancakes, mixing our "creatine shooters", myoplex, almond butter (just throw a bunch of almonds in and blend), cottage cheese and sugar free pudding, etc!
Awesome investment!

buy whole wheat tortillas and cut one up like a pizza put in the oven until crispy have some fat free salsa (or make your own) mix in half a shredded chicken breast (cold or hot your choice). then scoop the chicken and salsa mixture with the tortilla wedges.

Hey kathcandu - thanks for the recipe. Can you clarify something for me though as I'm a bit dumb! (Just suger deprived!). What do you mean 1/4 egg white? Does that mean I egg white divided into one quarter - doesn't seem like a lot?? Ta.
Body for Life Forum Message by DDRTeddy (777 posts) at 02:19 AM
no she means 1/4 c egg beaters. sorry!
Body for Life Forum Message by Kathcandu (194 posts) at 03:11 PM
Thanks DDRTeddy!
1/4 c whites...sorry. Forgot the "c". I like whites, and have never used the beaters. I might try it though. I just love these.
I have also tried:
a tbsp of pumpkin in place of the applesauce. Yummy!
a tbsp of PB in place of protein powder. Yummy, although a little greasy, and I definitely needed them warmed up!
strawberry extract. Yummy!
I have not yet tried SF/FF pudding, but there are so many flavs that would be excellent. I am trying SF/FF choco pudding next.
It would be quite funny to attempt splitting an egg white into four, wouldn't it???
Body for Life Forum Message by dmac (9 posts) at 03:49 PM
Thanks guys for the clarification! We don't have egg beaters in Australia - hence the confusion! Have a nice day all - or should I say sleep well as we are on the other side of the globe from eachother. : o )

Chuck - Here is what I ate yesterday.
1/2 c cottage cheese (13 g) & 1/2 banana
Salad w/ 1 hard boiled egg and 1 egg white (approx. 8 g)
Luna Bar (10 g protien)
Grilled Chicken Breast from Wendy's with 1/2 the bun (33 g)
FF Yogurt w/ string cheese (10 g)
I get 74 grams of protien. Only got 5 meals in but even adding another, I couldn't have gotten to 135 g of protien. Since my primary goal at this point is weight loss, I am wondering if it is wise to add more protien. What do you think?
Patty
Body for Life Forum Message by chuckdiesel99 (861 posts) at 07:22 AM
Well Patty at first I want to say that you are not eating enough but you are pretty short and a woman so I might be out of my league suggesting that you increase your calories. Maybe some more experienced women can help you on that one.
The one thing that I would change about your diet is the Luna bar. Bars are not a good meal replacement in my opinion. If you could switch that out with a ready to drink (RTD) myoplex lite, that would up your protein and cut down on the processed carbs. Sorry I cant help more.
Body for Life Forum Message by TaraC29 (107 posts) at 11:16 AM
I tend to agree with Chuck in that it doesn't look like you are eating enough and to ditch the Luna bar. I do have a Myoplex Lite bar on occassion when I don't plan well but even they aren't as good as a shake. Another thing I noticed (someone correct me if I'm wrong) is your yogurt and string cheese meal...from what I've read, cheese is a fat not a protein so that meal isn't balanced.
When was your workout and what did you do? If I can't get in enough protein I mix up some whey to have with a meal. Hope some of this helps!
Body for Life Forum Message by chuckdiesel99 (861 posts) at 11:26 AM
The string cheese can be a fat but it is also a protein. I should have mentioned that as well. What type of string cheese are you eating?
You should only eat 2% milkfat cheese or under and only on occasion.
Body for Life Forum Message by pk-rn (41 posts) at 11:34 AM
Thanks for your input Chuck and Tara. I agree I should have had more calories...just a busy day. Are the myoplex lite RTD any good. I tried the reg. myoplex poweder mix that my husband had and yuk!
I can't remember exactly who suggested it but an apple and string cheese was mentioned as a fast and easy meal. The protien in string cheese is 5 and yogurt has 6 so I figured I was getting enough protien at 11 g since cottage cheese is 13. But I didn't think about the 4 g of fat in the string cheese. Is this really an unacceptable meal??
As far as my workout, Tara, I do all my workouts first thing in the morning.
Patty
Body for Life Forum Message by chuckdiesel99 (861 posts) at 11:37 AM
The apple and 2 pieces of string cheese is a meal in the EFL book. Ive never been able to find fat free or 1% fat string cheese anywhere but if you can, thats what you should buy. If you cant find that, use low fat or fat free cottage cheese instead.
Body for Life Forum Message by chuckdiesel99 (861 posts) at 11:40 AM
I think the myoplex lite tastes a lot better than the regular myoplex.
Body for Life Forum Message by SupaFreak (984 posts) at 11:47 AM
You can use this calculator from the BFL website to see how much protein you should be eating each day.
http://www.bodyforlife.com/exercise/calcalc.asp
Body for Life Forum Message by pk-rn (41 posts) at 03:10 PM
Thanks SupaFreak! I just calculated it and I should be getting 135 g/day of protien if my goal is fat loss. This is equivalent to 1g per pound of body fat.
Thanks again.
Patty

No, go to the doctor ASAP. Cracks and pops are not things that go away. Usually that indicates a tear of some sort.
Often the pain on some tears doesn't his immediatly. So you will feel fine and then WHOOSH, it's going to hurt like the devil.
I had a knee injury in October, I got lucky. But you really, really need to see the doctor. Let us know how the visit goes. If it is a tear of some sort feel free to give me a hollar. I got a bunch of experience on rehabbing injuries this last couple of weeks. :)
It doesn't have to stop your challenge. :)

This sure sounds like a severe strain--if not a tear--of either the quadriceps itself or the tendon attaching it. The danger here is that it may tear on out if you continue to use it much and I guess I'd just add my voice to the others who suggested going to see a doc sooner rather than later. If it is a tear, it will take about 15 weeks or so to get well--if you get treatment. If you don't, it could end up potentially disabling for much longer than that.

first UBWO of challenge 2 last night.....I was really kinda nervous about it...had not been to the gym for weigh training in 3 weeks and at the end of challenge one was still nursing a shoulder injury
I sucked it up and got in a great workout......woke up this morning with NO shoulder pain. This is just so great considering I had nothing but problems with it for the last half of challenge 1.
Now I can concentrate on cardio tonight and LBWO tomorrow night and look forward to weighing on Saturday a.m. to see IF there was progress made for week 1.

OK, I have posted a similar rant before, but listen to what happened this time!
My husband has finally decided to join me for the couples challenge! I am SOOOOOOO excited. He is usually my personal photog, so we needed my sister in law to come over so we could be in a pic together. We have been having a GREAT first week and are all excited about this challenge.
So I'm joking about how "fat" we look for our beforew pics, it beinmg after the holidays and everything (not meaning I truly think I'm fat, but I HAVE had a few OFF weeks....) and she says "you are so skinny you do not need to be on a diet." And I am trying to explain to her that is isn't just about weight loss, it is about muscle gain and fitness and health, too... but she just didn't get it.
So I got on line and showed her the pics of the 6 finalists, especially averismommy, who definately wasn't "fat" in her before pic, and my sis in law says "that isn't real, those people are obsessed, a person that has other priorities than just themself can't make that happen..." OOOOHHHHH I was so mad!
So then she later sent me an email something about she was sorry if she was mean but she just wants us to be healthy, not obsessed, and she wouldn't want to look like a BFL champ if it meant missing even one bite of her best friend's desserts!
This has motivated me more than anything else before. I really want to prove her wrong, and I want my hubby to do so, too! I was just at a loss for what to say to her! So I'm just gonna have a kick a** challenge!!!!
Thanks for listening..... :) Kelli

Like she was saying there is something wrong with us to want such great results... and that this can't happen to anyone "normal." This girl is one of my closest friends... I really just don't get it.
Body for Life Forum Message by Hillary (57 posts) at 02:19 PM
Arghhh, that is so annoying. I got so sick of people saying things like that that I hardly ever talk about fitness stuff with anyone unless I know I can trust them. I don't see how spending a measly 20 - 46 minutes a day 6 times a week and eating healthy is obsessive, for one thing. And secondly, this may be more of a personal thing, but people were always saying "why are you worried about what you eat? you're skinny." Well, if I ate crap all the time, I wouldn't be, would I?? And besides, no matter how skinny you are, it's always important to eat healthy, and it's not always about being SKINNY anyways, what about muscle!?! Anyways, sorry to respond with a rant, but I completely empathize. In reality, she's probably just feeling bad about herself for not having the motivation you have so hopefully you can inspire her!
Body for Life Forum Message by Reagiesmom (392 posts) at 02:25 PM
You are right Hillary....that's just it- my sister in law weighs less than me, actually, but I wouldn't trade bodies with her- I have much more muscle tone and am more fit. But I guess that she figure she is fine, and I am fine, since we are not "overweight".... so why wouldnt we want to watch TV and eat dessert instead of be at the gym? I don't wanna be skinny... I want to be ripped!
Body for Life Forum Message by Tomcat1066 (51 posts) at 02:27 PM
I understand completely. Me and a buddy are starting our challenge on Monday. Our boss seems to think it's just funnier than anything to rag us about starting "that Body Beautiful thang". He can't even get the blasted name right.
Personally, I think it's just that some people want company in their slackness. They want to be healthy, but don't understand that it's not something that will happen overnight.
Reagiesmom, when your friend said something about not eating desserts, I'd have mentioned the freeday! ;)
I'm not going without chocolate for the rest of my life!

Body for Life Forum Message by Gtnskinee (23 posts) at 02:37 PM
I hear exactly what you're saying. I showed the BFL pictures to my sister and she said there is no way someone can make transformations like that in 12 weeks. The pictures are fake or took longer than that. It just makes me so mad! Look at the people on the Biggest Loser. They spend 12 weeks at the ranch and are pretty large to start but at the end of 12 weeks it amazing.
Of course she is someone who never had a weight problem, even after 3 kids. Sorry, but I don't think its selfish to take care of yourself. If you don't nobody else will do it for you.

How much easier is it to do this with your partners support? Its awesome! As for the put downs, I agree by just not talking to people about it outside the forum. I made that mistake during my last challenge (which failed). This time I'm determined and refuse to discuss it with "outsiders". Good luck to all : o )

He works 80 hour weeks and never normally gives his health much thought. His father has diabetes and has had multiple heart bypass surgeries so I am estatic! Thanks Ash you champ I love you babe! Together we can kick the blubba blues. Anyone else managed to get their partners on board? If so, good luck to each and every one of you. Together we can do this - lets change our lives, lets change peoples perceptions of us as people who have let themselves go. LETS SHOW THEM ALL and more importantly, lets show ourselves that we are worthy of loving ourselves, of being proud, of finally achieving something - of finishing a journey because we wanted too and we were brave enough to try. Power to us all!!!

Body for Life Forum Message by Mellie (606 posts) at 02:59 PM
Hey girlie, I started taking Betagen, but not at the recommended dosage because it made me bloat, but I do use it still, I do one scoop in the morning after my workout with the L-Glutamine and Cytovol (all Eas Products) and I take the same supplements as my last meal of the day with a scoop of protein and 1 c. of skim milk with 6 ice cubes...makes a yummy dreamsicle flavored shake...the reason I take these supplements is because I get so sore and they help with recovery time. Thats all I know, I am sure lots of others will chime in with more advice.

I use Betagen too. I take 2 scoops in the morning and 2 scoops at night. I find that it really helps with muscle recovery and I'm not a sore or for as long. It's a great product! I don't find I have any bloating problems with it. Creatine is good for your muscles right from the start! It will help you build muscle and thus burn more fat!
Body for Life Forum Message by FitnessGal4Life (14 posts) at 03:17 PM

Wow. What a game. The BCS FINALLY got one right. That's a shocker in itself that we don't have to wait for the polls to come out to see who's number 1(I'm sorry, i HATE the BCS with a passion - so i won't even get on that soapbox!)

It was a really good game, much better than last year's. However, if the officials had tossed the hankie on Vinnie, who was down before he flipped it to the other guy for a TD, we'd be singing a different song - Conquest!
I disagree. 1) there was nothing to throw a hankie over, it was not a penalty, they simple would have said he was down. 2) He would have been down somewhere around the 10 yard line. Given the way TX was moving the ball on that drive, in all probablity they would have scored a touchdown anyway.

I'm a poor Oklahoma State alumni (we sucked) and Texas kicked our boo-tay, so I was happy to be screaming and yelling for them since they represent the Big 12. Vince was unstoppable and just my two cents, but I think the call when Vince's knee went down was so close it could have gone either way. He was awesome!!

1)OK, yah, you're right, it would not have been a penalty. He should have just been called down. Give me a break - first of all I'm a chick and second I'm in mourning! 2) You're dealing in probabilities - the fact stands that if the seven points that Texas had not fairly earned had been deducted from the score, USC would have won.
However, dealing with reality, Texas played a great game, and they won. I can see why they have the #1 defense in the nation! I was very impressed with Vince Young. I am sure he will win the Heisman next year without a doubt.
OK, I'm gonna go cry a little more now. I think I'll wear black today.

No traffic! I think most people took the day off? The gym was so nice and empty it felt like saturday afternoon lol. Lots of people definitely enjoying this win. What a game! What a team!
You know what inspires the hell out of me about the longhorns they fight until the bitter end and they just don't give up. I could see the competitiveness and determination in Vince's eyes on the sideline when USC was driving the ball down and getting those touchdowns. I could see Vince was focused and determined to do everything he could! Heck the whole team was that way! It was awesome!

And I DID enjoy the cake! My co-workers got me my favorite which is a carrot cake made by Costco (like Sam's). This is to die for carrot cake. I know...you're either a carrot cake fan, or not. This carrot cake was the "works" and I've honestly never had any as good! Real cream cheese icing, with vanilla filling, with raisens and nuts, and the sides covered in almonds. And so moist! Got them on the couch with 2 bags of pop corn and drinks and watching Madgascar?? Cute movie! But we shall see if it lives up to it's expectations...\
I SURE HOPE SO! I am tired of getting no sleep! and this bed better surely HELP MY BACK!!!
It was put together like Lego Ego blocks kind of, but when it is all together, looks like a normal bed. I will give you a status tomorrow,,,, Wish me luck!

You'll have to tell us if you like it or not. I have heard mixed reviews. They are quite expensive so if it doesn't work out for you, make sure you send it back within the warranty period.

I've been selling beds for 4 years now and a lot of the stuff we learn is how a good bed (or bad bed) can affect your lower back and those sleep number beds remind me of waterbeds just with air instead of water. Another thing though, how long is the money back guarantee? It takes a person atleast 3 weeks to 4 months for thier body to adjust to the new mattress.

It was pretty comfortable.. Oh don't worry, I won't be sending it back, need another bed for the house anyway. The Down Comforter feels great and the bed, like you said, I have to get use to it but it was nice.. so far so good!

a job interview? same thing you would for any job interview, dress professional, atleast that's what I would do.

I (this is me) would still dress in Professional attire......not fitness attire (I would take my gym bag & fitness wear...just incase).
Show them your professionalism, your personality. Then if needed, I would change.
But, that's me

Now I think the families have something to be pissed about! This is shocking.
Body for Life Forum Message by amkazen (277 posts) at 10:05 AM
The violations are not a revelation. They were being reported from the moment the explosion trapped the miners.
The new owners of the mine (early last year) had started to fix the problems. My late father-in-law was a coal miner for many, many years and he always said that once problems started to happen they could not be fixed overnight. And, all miners know this and that is why they continue to work. What are they going to do? Stop working when that is the only game in town? What the families should be upset about is the idiot who overheard the cell phone conversation about checking for vitals and then spread the rumor about the miners being alive. The families should be upset with the previous owners for letting the mine get into such bad shape to begin with. How did the mining inspectors allow the mine to get so bad with the previous owners? Is there someone on this site that is in that area and can give us some inside scoop without the media bias?
Body for Life Forum Message by chuckdiesel99 (861 posts) at 10:10 AM
Well it was a revelation to me because I had not heard this before. I believe the cellphone incident was horrible but it was an mistake. Things like that happen all the time. I dont think the mining company had anything to do with it like a lot of the family members are saying on the news. I understand that they are upset but it was an honest mistake.
Body for Life Forum Message by amkazen (277 posts) at 10:14 AM
I thought it might have been a revelation to you. I had been following this since just a few mnutes after it was first reported because I happened to be on-line at that time. Mining accidents always grab my attention because of the stories my father-in-law and my wife told me about working in the mines. I could never, ever do it. Strong men and women, far stronger then me. I apologize for coming across abrupt. Sorry.
Body for Life Forum Message by chuckdiesel99 (861 posts) at 10:19 AM

Well, we have saltmines here under Lake Erie. I was always told that the miners knew the risk and they were well compensated for that risk. All I know is that the only recourse for the families in the legal system was to try and get future pay. I heard they can't sue the mining companies for negligence.
Body for Life Forum Message by amkazen (277 posts) at 11:19 AM
Interesting about not being able to sue.
Body for Life Forum Message by crone (540 posts) at 11:24 AM
They're not able to sue because they were told of the risk. Otherwise there would be no mining companies.

We have a 55 gallon tank in the MIDDLE of our living room (on the floor, no less) right now. It is inhabited by ONE lonely african ciclid. His friends all perished as a result of the Hurricane and my husband needs to move him to a smaller tank before our carpet installers get here in a few weeks!
Ordinarily we have about 6 Oscars and other ciclids in there.

Body for Life Forum Message by SupaFreak (984 posts) at 01:16 PM
stepmorjo, where do you have the tank? Are you draining all the water when you change it? If so, stop that and change only about a quarter of the tank per week.
If the tank is near any natural sunlight, it can cloud or go green with algea.
Does the fish happen to have any white flakey spots on it? If so, that's called Ick, and the first will die very soon. Fish with Ick will also cloud a tank.

stepmorjo: cloudy water is normal when you first set up a tank. Its part of the cycle process, its beneficial bacteria starting to take hold in the tank.

Might I talk you out of that 55 in the bedroom? I dont think ill buy another 55 again. A 75 is so much more versitile with the extra 6" in width compared to the 55. You can put so much more in there comfortably.

Yesterday I was in the carpool line picking up my daughter from school and I made sure, as always, to pull over to the right side of the street to give the school buses room to get past me. Well, along comes a school bus behind me (I was at the stop sign waiting to turn left onto the street where the school is) and decides to go around me which they do pretty often. As I saw an awful LOT OF YELLOW I told my 4-year-old that that bus sure was close to us....CCCRRRRRUUUUUUUUUUUUNCH....it was very close and hit my side-view mirror. The bus driver paused, then kept going, loaded up her kids and left without even checking on us. Fortunatley we were fine, but I do have a decent scrape on my side-view mirror. I got my daughter then went inside to the school office to tell them what happened...the school secretary said I should call the police. I did not since I guess that would count as Hit and Run, and that seemed like too much for this, so she said the principal would talk to the bus driver today.
I feel grumpy (too hungry?) today so I called the School Board Transportation office and do you know what they said? That I WAS IN THE BUS'S WAY by being stopped on the street. Excuse me, I said, but without a helicopter, I have to use the street like all the other parents to get to the school and I was following ALL of the school's rules about where to be (pull over to the right), etc. during carpool pickup. Luckily the bus did not HURT us, but it still HIT us and I thought they should KNOW that the bus driver didn't even stop.
Between that and spending 45 minutes on the phone trying to cancel an AOL account, I need a snack!!!!!!!!!

Find out who the insurance carrier is for the school district and make a claim.
Don't let it go. If they won't give you the insurance carrier, call your own and make then investigate who their carrier is so that you can make a claim with them directly.
This is what I used to do....handle insurance claims and investigate fault. If you are standing still...parked or otherwise and a car hits you while you are stopped and there to be seen.....you are not at fault. No matter what state you live in. I never handled claims in your state, but I have in 11 other states and I doubt this rule changes.
I don't care if you were sitting in the middle of the lane and the bus decides to pass you....if you were stopped and there to be seen....the bus should and could avoid you. If they don't...pony up the cash to fix your car...no matter how minor.
Police don't have to be involved for it to be "official".
Pursue it.
Teresa
(wait....right or left side mirror....if you were pulled to the right side and the buss passed you on the right? that doesn't compute)
Body for Life Forum Message by nola (35 posts) at 01:25 PM
Teresa....I was pulled over to the right side of the street and the bus pulled around me and passed me on the left, hitting my left side mirror. I had just gotten to the stop sign by this point but I do make sure to be over to the right as much as I can. Hope that makes more sense.
Thanks for the info.
Body for Life Forum Message by tcstone (646 posts) at 02:11 PM
That's what I thought you meant, but I was just checking.
Still....keep pursuing insurance info or making a claim with them.
good luck.
Body for Life Forum Message by TreeStand (88 posts) at 02:31 PM
Yeah, I wouldn't let it go either, If I could help in anyway let me know though I doubt it being that I am in the different state.
I'd hope the driver would stop if they plowed into a car full of kids stopped at a stop sign. You get the idea?

We've had a Tanita scale for years. I don't think it is accurate. We use it because it is all we have. We would be interested to actually have a trainer use calipers on us to see what it actually is.

I'm 5'5" and I would get a reading of say 20%. What would the reading be if you piled bricks up 5'5"? How does the scale know its me not a pile of bricks? I've never understood how these things can possibly be considered reliable.

Fuuny..........my friend got a BF scale and at the beginning of my last challenge it said I was 37.5%BF. IT NEVER WENT DOWN!!! I was 37% the entire 12 weeks. I also have an Omron(hand held) and calipers (pinchers) and they both said I started at 36% and ended at 27%. I also use the Navy site and it has always matched up with what the calipers and the Omron have said. DON'T TRUST THE SCALE!!
Good luck!

THank GOODNESS for these posts! I am on day 5 and have been confused by my Tanita scale. It said that I had dropped 2.5 lbs but BF was the same. How is that? I have been flawless on my eating and excercise. Now I know it is the scale. Going to try this Navy site! Thanks Guys!!!! - JENN

I had a Taylor one (maybe $40 or so at Wal-Mart) and it was awful. The weight part was very inconsistent and the BF part was WAY off. It showed me at 36% BF when I was really more like 24%...we tested it on some friends who knew their BF % and it was waaaayyyy off on everyone. It got ruined in the Hurricane...oh darn. I replaced it with a $5.99 analog scale. You can buy body fat calipers to measure your BF pretty realiably.

I liked to use it just to change my workout up a little, and I have feet problems, so they would fo to sleep often so I could only do 15-20 minutes at a time, but it was something.
But overall, on a scale of 1-10, 10 being the best, I give it a 5. 5.5.... so you could do a lot worse...

I think whatever works for you! I love the EFL cookbook, my family will eat a lot of recipes, it is easy to plan with it and has helped me a lot. Yes, you have to watch portion sizes, but that should be second nature for us bfl'rs anyways. I am always open to new recipes, but don't want to spend a ton of time preparing or a ton of money purchasing obscure stuff that only works with one recipe, etc. Thanks for all the info here...I LOVE my EFL book, though!
Body for Life Forum Message by Tai-Kee (2388 posts) at 08:18 AM
I actually agree with Framed, but it's all a matter of personal opinion :) EFL book is great for those that need ideas on quick and easy EFL recipes - but wouldnt it be great to have a EFL COOKBOOK with a lot of fresh foods and gormet recipes? Any aspiring cookbook authors out there? lol - you could make a MINT!
:P Maybe I should write to Jean Pare and they could make a Company's Coming EFL recipe book :D
Body for Life Forum Message by chuckdiesel99 (861 posts) at 08:40 AM
I see your point Framed. I enjoy cooking but I like the EFL book for many reasons.
Body for Life Forum Message by Framed (94 posts) at 10:57 AM
Well said Chuck. Tai-Kee, I am tweaking recipes right now. Making a mess of my kitchen. I am going back to my Gourmet Cooking classes recipes and trying to figure out the proper adjustments. I'm writing it all down and checking the nutritional on all of it. It is keeping me busy and motivated. I'm trying to replace oil/fat where ever I can and reducing the use of any sweeteners.
I'm making a rasperry souffle tonight for dessert. Sounds rich but it is mostly egg whites! It is actually the perfect combo of protein and carb.
I don't know how many people really would like a gourmet cookbook. I think most people are pressed for time and want the recipes with the least amount of ingredients and time. But there are some of us who like to go a little farther every once in a while.
I'm from both camps. I also like the easiest possible (crockpot).
But either way, I always want WHOLE FOODS and stay clean of cans, boxes and other packages. I'm sure I won't get transfats or added salt or other preservatives that way.
I'll do my experimenting and I'll let you all know what I come up with. I'll report on the souffle (and the nutritional).
Body for Life Forum Message by goingforbuff (1545 posts) at 12:04 PM
oh my....the souffle sounds absolutely wonderful...must have that recipe if it turns out ok!
I think most of us do like to go further recipes once in a while..but with our busy lives, EFL recipes really help us out and are a much more healthy alternative to the way we used to eat, wouldn't you all agree with that? Also, if you don't want to use a jarred spaghetti sauce (for example), you just use your natural ingredients to emulate that in as healthy a manner as possible.
Looking forward to hearing about the results of your food experiments!!! I actually did get a book that was written with BFL proper recipes...I have to dig it up (haven't used it in a little while...guess the pretty pictures and motivational stuff in EFL kept me from it). I will post the name of it here if the recipes look more "gourmet"

I actually don't do the miracle whip "free", it really tastes a lot grosser than the "lite' and its only a difference of like 5 cals, plus if I know its not the "free" I tend to use less. I'd rather use less and have it taste better anyway. Plus, I can use the lite for the whole family and I don't have to buy separate for myself (I'm cheap like that :)
Body for Life Forum Message by Two For The Show (4 posts) at 06:09 AM
We do exactly what Jamber suggested. I make up individual tupperware containers of the right measurements of oatmeal, protein powder, cinnamon and splenda. I have tons of them already made up to grab and go. Just add hot water or add tap water and microwave. I probably make up 30 at a time. We have never cooked a batch and saved it though, so can't help there.

I just make these on the fly. I nuke the oatmeal in water, then add choc. protein powder and milk, stir and then stir in some crunchy natural PB...this is probably my favorite breakfast and I sometimes also have it for a midmeal. I don't think pre-cooking the oatmeal is a great idea...seems like it wouldn't hold well..
Body for Life Forum Message by GetNFit (765 posts) at 07:44 AM
I eat oatmeal with chocolate protein pretty frequently. I put both of them in a bowl with water and then sit it in the microwave for 2 or 3 minutes. (Whatever the directions recommend.) Line goingforbuff, I will then sometimes add natural crunchy PB after it's cooked, but Im to the point I dont even need the PB. It's very very yummy!!!!

I used to get those frozen turkey burgers and they were great! But then Sam's stopped carrying them. I think they may only carry them during BBQ season??? Anyways, I now stalk Sam's meat dept. for their 2 pak of ground turkey. It's a great deal and they are about 7 grams of fat for 4 oz I think. Be careful at Walmart... you really have to check the package as the fat varies. I got some there that tasted terrible and the fat was high. I DID see some the other day that were lower fat but I was scared to buy it again as the first ones tasted weird. If you don't see the 2-pak at Sam's ask the butcher. Each pak is 2.5 lbs. and the whole thing costs under $10.

The problem is that I'll be needing to head to work and eat in the breakroom. I'll just have a microwave and a fridge. I can't eat cottage cheese, so that's out for me. If you're not lactose intolerant, try the cottage cheese and oatmeal pancakes. You will not know the cottage cheese is in there!!
They can be made in big batches and then individually frozen ahead of time and then nuked at work every morning.
1/2 c. low-fat cottage cheese blended with two egg whites and some cinnamon and/or Splenda to taste.
Then blend in 1/2 c. dry oats. Then use just like pancake batter in a pan sprayed with Pam.
You could also add about 1/8 c. of sugar-free Log Cabin on top once you nuke it at work.

Are you looking for a main meal or snacks? Two whole wheat crackers with two slices of fat free turkey and 1 slice of low fat cheese works. Make sure to drink your water also. I take a whole wheat english muffin and put it in the food processor until it is ground very fine. Then I add that to a can of tuna with a lil bit of low fat mayo....There are loads of recipes in E.F.L, if you dont have it, I would suggest you get it. I have the same situation...mini kitchen area at work...what I did was buy a cheap version of 'the bullet' at my local Rite-Aid...it is a mixer that comes with 6 diferent mugs. Every morning after my workout (I use the gym at my work too) I blend up my morning myoplex breakfast shake and then when I'm done I just take the mixing mug home and throw in the dishwasher, and since I have a whole weeks worth of mixer mugs in my desk drawer, I dont' have to wash them daily...Ok probably more info than you were looking for, but hey, I like my plan and thought I'd share it!

The pancakes are a complete meal as they have protein and carbs from the oatmeal and are very filling. You can also have some fruit on top of them adn the sugar free syrup, its deliscious, I could eat this for every meal and I do eat it every morning at work. Another meal I make ahead of time is the french toast. Eggbeaters and a scoop of protein powder and cinamin, soak whole wheat bread in it cook on frying pan with pan. I then pop them in the toaster at work or you can nuke them and also have the SS syprup. Yummy

I just ate a GREAT filling meal at Wendy's and wanted to share. So BFL friendly. I am impressed!
Small Chili- 220 calories, 6 fat, 23 carbs, 17 protein (a little high in sodium, but okay occasionally)
Chicken Breast with tomatoe and lettuce only-- I ordered grilled chicken and did away with the bread and honey mustard--
120 cal, 2.5 fat, 2 carb, 23 protein
So total for 1 meal:
340 calories, 8.5 fat, 25 carbs, and a HUGE 40 protein!
Yee haw! Very filling. Very tasty. Very Fast. Very BFL!

Pancakes. I was looking for the most nutritious and delicious combo for majorly fortified pancakes. This is it. Sweet Potato Pancakes....tastes like pumpkin pie!
My usual pancake for 1 person is 3/4 cup egg whites and 1/2 cup oats and about a tablespoon of orange/lemon zest. BLEND IT IN THE BLENDER. (NUTRITIONAL - 250 calories, 3g Fat, 28g Carb, 26 g Protein. 3% USDA Calcium and 1% iron.) This is a very hearty meal. Feels like too much. But it is only 250 calories.
The Sweet Potato Pancakes is just adding to that. Here is the recipe for 3 servings and the nutritional info.
2 cups egg whites
1 cup oats
1/4 cup sweet potato (I bake them in the skin and keep them in the fridge)
1 tb orange zest
1 tsp cinnamon
1/2 tsp ginger
1/4 tsp cloves
1/4 tsp nutmeg (I like to use a hole nut and grate it)
dash of salt
Blend into a nice batter. If it is too thick for you, add a little water.
These are very flavorful without syrup or jam. But my kids LOVE them with maple syrup. Check out the nutrition I get into them too!
Nutritional: Calories 200

I sure hope I can continue with this level of intensity. But, this why I want to continue to lose weight, and I have already lost about 26 pounds: When I start to go on a "maintenance" type eating and exercise plan, if I start to creep back up in weight I can tell myself, "Whoa, get your butt back in gear" before I get too heavy again.
Body for Life Forum Message by nutz (130 posts) at 06:51 AM
May I suggest another hamstring exercise that may help. It may look like you are working your lower back but if you do it correctly, it will really get your hamstrings.
You get onto one of those contraptions that you use for doing the lower back exercises where you are supported on your thighs with your heels tucked under the other support. Like a reverse situp.
Anyway, if you really concentrate on using your hamstrings to pull yourself up to parallel and not your lower back, you will get a nice workout. (in my mind, I pretent I'm trying to flip myself over using my heels) To add weight, you can hold a DB or plate in your arms against your chest. But, you really have to concentrate on using your hamstrings and not your lower back as much.
Body for Life Forum Message by Muscle Head (17 posts) at 07:40 AM
Lots of good advice here on deadlifts, and as ptwob stated, they are a compound full body exercise.
It sounds like you've injured yourself from a either a break in form or incorrect form.
My advice, for the future , would be to educate yourself on perfect form, and then practice, with a bar only, and then slowly work back into more weight, NEVER sacrificing form for more weight, reps, or sets.
Personally, concerning form, I start from the up position, taking the bar off a rack, "lift" my chest high, and shoulders pulled back, and holding that through the entire lift.
Bottom line, be careful.
Body for Life Forum Message by Muscle Head (17 posts) at 07:44 AM
One other thing I wanted to add ...
It is really critical, when performing deadlifts or squats, that you have a very strong core. If you're weak in that area, spend some weeks or even months developing your strength there.
Body for Life Forum Message by amkazen (277 posts) at 11:37 AM
You probably will be buff! Lifting your arms over your head all the time sure is tiring. Put a heart rate monitor on and let us know how high your HR gets, and for how long. That way we'll know for sure if painting counts as a HIIT or a UBWO! :):):)
Body for Life Forum Message by Agent 69 (526 posts) at 11:39 AM

Body for Life Forum Message by tcstone (646 posts) at 02:42 PM
I have to do my cardio at 5pm. My legs are way sore from yesterdays LBWO. Thankfully the neck pain I had yesterday (thanks for the help) is slowly improving.....
I normally do my HIITs on the treadmill running, however on Tuesday I over did myself thinking I could just pick up running where I left off 2 weeks ago (year right) and nearly passed out on the machine.
Since this is only week 1 and I have successfully hurt myself in one way or another twice...I am looking for advice.
Would trying the stairstepper for my HIIT be torture on the quads or does it matter? Running involves the quads too.
My options are stairstepper or running.
My goal for this challenge is intensity, but I think I am going for a bit much intensity too soon. I don't want to end up out and on the sofa just because I am over eager.
Thanks,
Teresa

I would do the stairstepper if thats what you feel like doing. I always do my best workouts when I choose exercises I feel like doing. Plus, variety is good. I wouldn't worry about working thru SORENESS, but if it's an INJURY, then I would rest that muscle group.

The stepper totally kills my quads especially if they are already sore from the day before, LIKE TODAY! Maybe use the treadmill and tone it down a bit...hitting your 10's this week may not be the same as 2 weeks ago. Just listen to your body and you'll do fine.
Body for Life Forum Message by tcstone (646 posts) at 02:50 PM
no, legs are not injured. Just sore. And I sit all day at work, so they seem worse than they probably are if I was up moving.
For some reason I didn't think about warming up! duh!
I think I am losing my brain in Week 1. I hope it returns soon.

Do some good stretching too and after about 10 mins into your cardio it will barely be there; the more you "loosen" up the better it will feel.

Body for Life Forum Message by tcstone (646 posts) at 07:33 PM
I warmed up on the treadmill for 5 mins and moved to the stairstepper which killed me the first 5 mins.
So I hopped off that and went to the treadmill and finished a good HIIT.
I felt much more accomplished on the treadmill.
Thanks,
Teresa

Ok,
So my 4 week goal is to run a mile in under 10 minutes, since I have never been a long distance runner/ only short sprints. Anyhow, in order to do this, i need to practice...duh...running! My cardio was today, my plan~treadmill.
Not 3 minutes into it, and my shin's are killing me. I didnt want to make them worse, so I just got on the stationary bike. This happened to me last year for the first time. Now again! I purchased new (walking) shoes, arch supported socks and it was just a warm up, nothing major!
what is the deal, and will they ever go away?
Body for Life Forum Message by Pixy (365 posts) at 09:59 PM
It seems once you get them you can be prone to getting them agin. Do you know why you got them the first time. There are many diffrent reason for them and the best way to prevent them is to know how you get them.
Body for Life Forum Message by crazyblonde78 (224 posts) at 11:13 PM
I really dont know to be honest. I just got them one time after not working out for a while. I notice when I walk fast/incline is when i get them. Although, today, even on a slower no incline warm up, they came on pretty strong.
What exactly is it?

okay I've got a bunch of people from work that agreed to pledge a minimum of $6.72 to me for my push up challenge and hey if I can do a few more then I can suck a few more more pennies out of everyone. Did 120 yesterday I have 20 more to do today to make 120 then tomorrow 120 and on friday I'll work them into my chest routine and do 120 then as well. Saturday I'll be able to take it down a notch and just do 80 per day. I'm going to do this just like I'm going to win the January melt down challenge and just like I'm going to make it into the top 15 This is my year and nothing is going to stop me. I'm dedicating all of this to Julie and I can't wait to send her foundation a cheque, hopefully for a few hundred bucks. By the way my name should have 6720 beside it. Oh and I stopped doing them with my feet elevated because of all this overtraining talk.

The turning point in my life was when I landed a good job. Before that, I could never quite gain the confidence I needed to really start living and get myself out of bed in the mornings. You need to find a job that makes you feel like you are making a difference, something that means something to YOU and no one else. I don't think the pay scale matters as much as how the job itself makes you feel.
My other mistake was trying BFL over and over for other people. I was always trying it for some man. First my husband, then when we divorced, it was boyfriend after boyfriend. You have to do it for YOU. Do it because you WANT to get out of bed with a SMILE every day. Do it because you want to walk through the grocery store with your head held high. Do it because you want to look in that mirror and love who you are, inside and out. Do it because YOU KNOW YOU CAN! And, my personal favorite reason of why I'm doing BFL, DO IT TO PROVE EVERYONE ELSE WRONG! No one at my workplace believes I'll complete the program. They say "it's just another diet" but I know they are wrong. Their skepticism just makes me that much more motivated.
You can do this!!

Do what is best for YOU and your CHILDREN, leave everything else out of the equation,,, get back on your feet (job wise) and work hard,,, that way you will be proud of who you are and what you do and your children will see how hard their mother works. Be strong for you and them! Congrats on your success so far and keep trucking!

Wow, that was a sad story. I am so sorry about all of your troubles. As far as the job, I don't have any advice, I am a stay at home mom, but my kids are young and my husband is super supportive. I would definitely say it is always good to be passionate about something. BFL, hobbies etc. I started my own photography business and it has been very good for my self esteem. I agree with UDENIA, do what is best for YOU and yoru CHILDREN. If your marriage is rocky, you need to consider your Children's and your own needs first.
GOod look with everything. THis place is super supportive. I have had plenty of breakdowns on this website and people are always here to pick you up.

T~N~T & J-Dub,
Awesome Lists!
The other day I mentioned the CD that I made for all the passengers on last year's BFL Cruise. Here is the content of that disc as promised.
1. Black Eyed Peas : Let's Get It Started
2. U2 : Verigo
3. Red Hot Chili Peppers : Higher Ground
4. Motley Crue : Kickstart My Heart
5. INXS : Suicide Blonde
6. Fatboy Slim : Because We Can
7. Usher : Yeah!
8. Elvis Presley : Rubberneckn'
9. Ram Jam : Black Betty
10. OutKast :Hey Ya!
11. No Doubt : Hella Good
12. Depeche Mode : Personal Jesus
13. Pink : Get The Party Started
14. Yello : Oh Yeah
15. Franz Ferdinand : Take Me Out
16. Marron 5 : Harder To Breath
17. Eminem : Lose Yourself
18. Rob Zombie : Never Gonna Stop
19. Guns & Roses : Welcome to the Jungle
20. Nelly : Hot in Here
I designed it in hopes it appealed to the large group & age range of the passengers. Everything from Elvis to Rob Zombie. The majority of the tunes were based on both music energy & message of lyrics.
I will be using your lists to help with ideas for the 2006 CD. I appreciate everyone's input.....

So far so good... save one hiccup. I'm on track with the exercise, but had to stay up all night last night (literally didn't sleep a wink) working on my graduate school applications (deadlines are all over the next two weeks). So then I wasn't sure if I should keep eating every 3 hours, since that was around 3 extra meals... but was getting hungry so figured I should.
Anyway, I'm counting this as my free day for the week, and am aiming to go to bed early. I just hope that not having Sunday off doesn't drive me mad!! As long as I can stay on track Sunday, I can still get our team all my points for the week.

This 30 minute thing... Is this normal? That is what I am doing, and it is starting to interfere with my sleep a bit too. Also I can't get Enough water. I have a 64 oz jug which I drink 4-5 of per day, and I still feel dehydrated. I have had my sugar tested, and while I am near pre-diabetic, I am not. So, is this normal?
Thanks
Body for Life Forum Message by harleyman69 (26 posts) at 07:53 AM
It is very normal. I have to get up at least twice per night and go. Are you taking any fat burners? If so, they can make you dehydrated. Also, some of the weight loss the first couple of weeks is water. We are flushing our systems and getting rid of water retention. Also, I'm not so sure my kidneys know what to do w/o tea, coke, etc. flowing through them. lol

Wow. I watched the show last night and thought it was great. I think Otto said it best when he said that they have already won. Meaning that they won their lives back.
Did you notice all the changes with the two families? Even Otto's voice had changed. And when you saw their before tapes, I was just blown away. Melony from the Samuels family looked fantastic! And so did her daughter. WOW.
I can't wait until next week when they show the couples challenge.

I also liked how the parents realized how their enabling contributed to their children's state of health. I'll have to keep that in mind.

Otto's wife's name was Shaun (not sure about the spelling) and they looked fantastic. Their daughter still had some ways to go, but not NEARLY as far as she did when she started. They all looked lightyears more confident and happier.
The other daughter looked SOOOO amazing! Melaniee did as well. Don didn't look that different in street clothes until I saw the before picture again, but he seriously made progress as well.
I like this show simply because it reminds me that I can accomplish MY goals as well. It is physically possible, now I just have to do it!

Thank you!!! They really need a different host for the show. I wish they would document her fitness and exercise routine. She should live in the house with the contestants and see if she can resist all the sweets. Let's see how much she would work out. Sorry, but it bugs me that they have a show that's supposed to be so dedicated to fitness and improving people's lives, but yet they have a host like Caroline Rhea. Does anyone else see the irony?
Body for Life Forum Message by Can'tStopMe (465 posts) at 10:06 AM

Body for Life Forum Message by VegasGuy (79 posts) at 10:31 AM
I agree with both sides on this one. I love Caroline Rhea, but I think there might be a better host out there. How about one of the contestants from ths previous shows? That would be fun, and I don't think it's the HOST that is getting people to watch the show.
On the other hand...Caroline Rhea has always struggled with her weight as well. She may not be the "model thin" type of person we usually see on TV, but she does look good. Her wardrobe stylist should be fired though!

Body for Life Forum Message by SupaFreak (984 posts) at 01:53 PM
I think 80 pounds in 5 months is very feasible. Especially when you look at their starting weights.
They lost weight a lot faster than a slimmer built person would.
And I'm pretty sure the $50k prize money kept them on track with eating right and working out.

Body for Life Forum Message by crazyblonde78 (224 posts) at 12:43 AM
ive eaten it when i am in a pinch for something. other than a little high in sodium in some brands, I dont see why not.
Body for Life Forum Message by DreamCatcher (686 posts) at 10:28 PM
Beef jerky is not on the actual authorized list, but every once in a while it won't hurt. I wouldn't count on it as being a protein source and there are too many things added in. Check the ingredients. If you see anything relating to sugar (which usually is found in beef jerky), stay away from it. Other forms of sugar on labels would be molasses, high-fructose syrup, really anything with fructose, as fructose is a form of sugar. Anything that says hydrogenated is also something to stay away from. And as crazyblonde said, beef jerky is high in sodium. Some people are less tolerant to sodium than others.
Hope that helps.

Okay, considering I've already done BFL for a full 12 weeks and had fabulous results, I shouldn't be feeling this way, but, alas, I am. I've had 3 super good days, eating clean and working out. So, why is it that I expect to see a change on the scale and better fitting clothes?? I know, I'm crazy!! I know I've just got to give it time, but gosh!! I'm ready to look better NOW! Of course, if I had just stayed on track the whole time, I wouldn't be going through this right now.....woe is me. ;)

I agree (not that I want to look like you, but that you look awesome). Just remember that the closer you get to your goal the smaller the changes become. When people have a lot to lose the weight and inches come off quickly, but like they say the last 10 pounds is the hardest! I haven't seen any meaningful changes in myself for a while either, but I know they will come. We're all in this together!

Keep up the good work and know that you will reap the rewards!!

Doesn't make sense..it should be second nature by now (and it really is) but I can't seem to stay on track like I was during the first challenge. All of these positive posts going on though..I feel the determination coming back! You will too! Take away the scale, try (and I say TRY) to stop analyzing yourself in the mirror for a while! I know..that's the hard part! I am catching myself more and more doing daily inspections in front of the mirror trying to see a change! So..to both of us...stop it!

I just picked up some Starkist Tuna Fillets at the grocery store the other day. I paid about $2.50 per packet, not a bad price.
I had the Teriyaki tuna fillet and let me tell you, it was FABULOUS. And the best thing is you can microwave the fillets in less than 2 minutes flat!

Blondie - I like Yellow Fin that I buy at the fish market, but tuna in a can or bag I usually can't stand without Mayo, which of course is bad. So I tried eating it without bread, but a little (less than a teaspoon) of Balsamic Vinaigrette Dressing (Either fat freee or low fat depedning on what I have around). It tastes much better that way. I can't eat salmon, it just tastes too strong for me.
Body for Life Forum Message by Can'tStopMe (465 posts) at 12:54 PM
I too have had them but I'm with Joe...the sodium of off the charts which eliminated it as a choice for me. AND Joe...If memory serves me correctly the terriyaki was was something insane like 1050 mgs sodium because of the soy sauce.
Body for Life Forum Message by SupaFreak (984 posts) at 01:19 PM
Hmmm...I'll recheck the sodium contents. I will rarely purchase anything over 400 mgs.
But, I was doing my official 'get my butt in gear' shopping spree when I bought them and may not have paid attention.
PS-Cottage cheese has more sodium than the tuna fillet packets. And daily intake is recommended not to go over 2500mgs daily. Kind of puts the numbers in perspective.
Body for Life Forum Message by Joe (a.k.a. Onyx) (119 posts) at 01:25 PM
I don't eat Terriyaki or soy sauce that much becuase it has so much sodium which makes you bloat. If I do I eat low sodium and I limit it to the smallest amount (Less than a teaspoon).
re: Cottage Cheese, hmm mthis would concern me, I am about to eat my "snack size portion" which is 4 oz and it has 390 mg of sodium, so you might have a point...
I just worry about prepackage foods becuase they have so much sodium in them.. for example if in an emergency you decide to eat a Lean Cusisine of Healthy CHoice meal, Whoa take about lots 'o' sodium...
Maybe somebody a little more educated on this than me should speak...
Concides he might not be completly right here...

I can't find low sodium CC in my area. I think I found it once at a health food store, but it was way fatty.
I am addicted to Wal-Marts Fat Free Cottage Cheese. And it is low fat. I think the sodium is around 350-400mgs.

What should I use
Body for Life Forum Message by GetInShape (56 posts) at 08:13 AM
Use a scale for your weight.
If you do not have a way to measure your body fat you can do so by going to one of the many web calculators.
Here are two links: http://www.bblex.de/en/calc/navy.php and another http://www.healthcentral.com/cooltools/nutrition/homebodyfattest.aspx
Body for Life Forum Message by Tomcat1066 (51 posts) at 08:17 AM
If you're a member of a gym, there may be someone that can do a skin caliper test, which is more accurate than measurements even. Water emmersion is the best, but not practical for a week to week check.
However, whichever method you use, be consistant in the method. Otherwise it'll flucuate just like your scale does and you won't know how you're really doing.
Tom
Body for Life Forum Message by Agent 69 (526 posts) at 08:19 AM
here's another one for you
it's worked pretty well for me....atleast more so than others I've tried.
www.smartcalorie.com
whichever you decide to use.....stay with that one means of measureing your BF%....don't flip flop between two or three.......pick one stick with it and you'll see a difference as you move forward.
Body for Life Forum Message by michiganmike (216 posts) at 08:25 AM
Cheri, I think the key phrase here is "it's only been 4 days" Don't even worry about this crap for at least 4 weeks. Your weight, your "body fat" percentage, all that stuff, will jump around during the first several weeks as your body tries to adjust to burning new and better fuel. Food fiber content can change your weight by 5 pounds a day; water retention can bounce the weight up and down too, and all those changes also affect the body fat measurements. Really, the best machines aren't very good!
Body for Life Forum Message by kitwhit (10 posts) at 08:27 AM
Cheri, I am on day 4 (first challenge) as well and I went out and bought a Tanita. As of this morning my weight is down 3.8 pounds but I noticed my body fat had increased. And the Tanita shows my body fat at 10 % higher than the other methods I have used!!! My digital body fat calipers will be delivered today and I plan to measure that way plus 2 other ways on the internet (one based on height/weight and the other you measure and then calculate). I will take the average of these 3 readings and use that. Also I have an opportunity this weekend to do a water immersion test so will use that very accurate result to determine if my plan is right!
Body for Life Forum Message by Hot Body (502 posts) at 08:41 AM
I bought a Tanita last summer, and I really regret spending my money on it. It's pretty to look at, but that's about it. I should have gotten a simple, reliable scale. Period.
I measure my BF through the Navy site, which GetInShape provided. Mike's also very right - stop weighing yourself so often! You'll get yourself worried and stressed, and what you need to do is focus on your program. Over time, you can review what you've been doing and make adjustments - but so early into the program, as tempting as it is, is not the way to do it.
Keep on doing it to the T, as you are, and you will see and feel change!!
Body for Life Forum Message by Joe (a.k.a. Onyx) (119 posts) at 08:47 AM
Scales are for Fish!
Weight is not really important, it is only 1 factor in your arsenol (sp?) of BFL tools. It should be used to help you calculate your lean body mass, which is important to help you calculate your BF %.
One last website for you is www.mybodycomp.com.
Which ever site you use, just remember to be consisitent about using the same one throughout your challenge, so you can keep yourself on target for your goals.
Good Luck and Good Health.
Joe
Body for Life Forum Message by kitwhit (10 posts) at 09:11 AM
I have to add my 2 cents to this weighing in discussion. I have begun this program to change my life, to get fit and toned and healthy, to develop more confidence, to have a brighter outlook on life. These are my long term goals. But this program is very difficult in the beginning - not just physically but also getting used to thinking ahead for the meals, planning for the workouts, writing everything down. I have no doubt that it will become second nature soon but right now in the first week it is a challenge in many ways. I am already more energetic but I am sore and I don't like getting up early to do cardio. Call it weakness if you will but in order to keep going I need to SEE that something is happening, and even though I know it is water weight and only 3.8 pounds I am seeing it on the scale. When I wake up and see that I am down a pound or even a fraction of one it excites me and motivates me to get on the treadmill and push myself hard. It is what I think of when I have had a long day at the office and know I have a visit to the gym ahead of me. So right now if I weigh myself every other day or every day or every hour it is what I am doing to keep myself positive and motivated to continue to rise to this challenge. I am sure that once I begin seeing the changes in my body, hopefully around week 3 or 4, I will no longer need the daily reinforcement of seeing the numbers on the scale change. But right now it is keeping me going.
Body for Life Forum Message by KauaiBound (166 posts) at 09:34 AM
I found the constant measuring and weighing discouraging personally and I was only doing this once a week. If I only lost 1 lb and didn't see much difference in the measurements it was a downer. For me this time I am not allowing myself to weigh or measure or take pictures except every 4 weeks. It was strange. I only lost 3lbs and my measurements went up after the first 4 weeks, but my pictures show improvement. This is how I am changing things up for my second challenge.

#2 - Luna Bar
#3 -PBJ
#4 - Cup of Soup (not EFL at all but lo-cal and hot!)
#5 - Ham & Chicken Lasagna
Cardio - 25 minutes on eliptical Level IV Random.

my motivation is where I came from---10 years ago, 202 lbs. (pushing a size 22),ZERO motivation, ZERO goals, ZERO physical strength, etc.
To where I am now---143 lbs. (currently) a size 6-8 (yeah baby)
self motivated, setting goals (and making some of them), more physically fit and more strength.
I am the same person "on the inside"....that's scary ;)
But, continue to try to improve myself mentally, physically, spiritually

My last challenge failed because I failed to keep a food journal. I was lost!! Now every night before i go to bed or get on the computer or whatever, I log the next day. It is a miracle worker!!! It keeps me on track and even if i change it up a little than what I wrote down as a plan, its still on the BFL plan.
I highly recommend this!! Thank god my gym has childwatch which is a godsend. I have my own small business, and he goes to work with me everyday, which means, little to no interaction with other babies/kids. This has been a huge motivator because he LOVES going there. I know I am pleasing him while I get my workouts in.
We weren't always this lucky. This is a brand new gym/fitness center that was just built in July 04. It is top of the line everything. (it was built by our hospital, Skaggs...not next to but they named it Skaggs H & F RecPlex). Last year, the only thing we had was an OLD gym by a resort company, and everything was always broke or something youd see back in the 80's as far as equipment. It always smelled horribly like a sweat sauna.
Ok i'll quit rambling, but I wanted to let everyone know what keeps me going. everyone is doing fabulous this year!! we are here for each and everyone of you!!! keep up the GREAT work!!

The main thing is GOAL SETTING I can't stress the importance of goal setting. Even if you write them out every week or every couple of weeks. And do long term ones as well. Something about writing them out that seals the deal.
Well, after a year at this I have found that focusing on my goals. Which requires a lot of me, myself, and I thought. I know sounds terrible, but in the process of over a year I have learned (and still am learning) how to balance being a mother, wife, fitness soon to be competitor, & business woman. Still working on incorporating the business into the routine ;-)
I have learned it is OK to go into my bubble and focus on me and my training and MY progress, MY success. Trying not to get caught up to comparing myself with others. For some reason that started to work so against me and making me feel not good enough and feeling less than adequate. Don't get me wrong I like to see people succeed. I love seeing my friends on here succeed! But I started comparing myself to others success and that seemed to turn into a recipe for disaster. At this moment in time I have to be selfish and only think of myself while training. I am starting to get that way in the gym as well. Finding my zone and staying focused. It seems if I read or am around negative behavior things then it is like a domino effect with me as well. Cheating and people piggin' on Pizza I just can't even be around it. Funny one of the guys at the gym asked about a pizza place and if it were good. I said I don't know Pizza does not exist to me right now. I choose to not be a part of it. Yea it makes for a boring social life. But I know it won't be this way forever. A little sacrifice to get what I want. So end this long story FOCUSING ON ME, MYSELF, & I. Oh yes and MY PROGRESS and my progress only.
God that sounds like such narcissistic advice. LOL. But the reason you are doing this is for yourself. There are different things you can do like journaling and all that stuff. The one thing I have learned though it has to come from deep within and it is all mental. Hope that was of some help. Sorry so long. I have been having a week epiphanies lol. Everything is finally coming together and making since and it has been 1 whole year on BFL.
Take care -T

For things like this, I turn to Skwigg! Here's what she has to say about success in your transformation:
How to Have a Dramatic Transformation... or not
If you’ve seen many photos of 12-week Body for Life challenges, you’ll notice that some of the results are really dramatic and some of them, well, not so much. I’m often asked what the people are doing differently and if I have any secret tips for a really dramatic transformation.
Here’s my secret tip: work your ass completely off. The people who have dramatic changes live it, breathe it, and become it. They plan, they scheme, they set goals and as soon as they reach them they set new ones. They train at an intensity that causes their fellow gym-goers to blink and back up. They're up at 3:00am to workout in a cold basement before a 5:00am shift. Their refrigerator has seventeen different meal combinations in color coded tupperwares. Wherever they go, they have a cooler in one hand and a bottle of water in another. They're writing in their success journals at all hours of the day and night. They're just ON IT. They're behaving as if they fully intend to win the million dollars, or the corvette, or whatever the heck the prize is now. It's not that they're doing something different or tricky, they're just doing BFL with such passion that they can't help but succeed.
If you want to have a ho-hum challenge, have some vague notion about wanting to get fit. Don't commit to it in any way and don't plan anything. Miss a few workouts here and there. Take a free weekend instead of a free day. Don't worry too much about your portion sizes or getting all your meals in. Try not to push yourself too hard on those workouts. Be sure to have some birthday cake anytime there's a party at work. Hit the snooze button instead of making it to the gym. All those little decisions will come back to haunt you when it's time to take your final pictures and measurements.
Now, that's not to say that you have to do things perfectly or not at all. You can muddle things all over the place, have fun, be totally happy-go-lucky, and still have a stunning transformation. It may even be *better* for your sanity and long-term success if you do it that way. It's just going to take longer than twelve weeks. :-)

Oh I remember reading that a little over a year ago. It is so true.
The people who have dramatic changes live it, breathe it, and become it. They plan, they scheme, they set goals and as soon as they reach them they set new ones. They train at an intensity that causes their fellow gym-goers to blink and back up.
Their refrigerator has seventeen different meal combinations in color coded tupperwares. Wherever they go, they have a cooler in one hand and a bottle of water in another.

My biggest motivation for short term is GOALS! I set lots of short term one. This week it is to lose 3 pounds. I have it mapped out that I need to lose 2 pounds per week for 11 weeks of this challenge to meet my challenge goal. That dosn't leave room for error on my part, no, does it? LOL Every workout COUNTS! I only get 18 upper body and 18 lower body workouts this challenge. That gets me moving every single day!!!

I like Jamber's idea;
you only have to do 18 ubwo and 18 lbwo...... I think I'll look at it in those terms and have my own countdown.
I have to constantly change my motivation:
a new pair of shoes,
a tv in my workout room, new songs on my ipod, oxygen magazine, a replica of what a real pound of fat looks like sitting near my pantry, a babysitting/workout challenge with my sister. Oh yeah, looking at my before pictures and realizing how absolutely miserable I was!

sparkleberry, seeing that I was making an improvement.
Before BFL I "dieted" Mon thru Fri and took the weekends off.
Took me 6 months to go from 202 to 165 (that was 1995).
Once I got there I knew I never, ever wanted to go back. So when I noticed my pants getting tight I didn't wait for it to get out of control, I did something about it....I refused to buy a larger size.
I can say at 145 lbs. this is the smallest I've been since I was a pre-teen and I'm 43......to me that's sad.
BUT it's good because I KNOW I can maintain a comfortable weight NOW I never really had that piece of mind before.

I have altered my before picture on the computer to see what the after might look like (amature version of airbrushing.... errr... EDITING is more accurate). Seeing a picture of others suceeding is inspiring, but I often think how I'm different.... a "future" picture of me is more attainable/real.... I'll let you know how it works

my biggest tip is to THINK POSITIVE and keep focused on what you want to look like.
I look in the mirror and say what the troblems are and I go to the gym and GET*HER*DONE
Know that nothing will happen over night , it could take a year, but just keep that visual and you will eventually GET*HER*DONE!!

I have such a strong image lodged in my mind as to how I will look, and feel, when I finish building the body I want. It is drawing me like a magnet towards that end result, and it is totally irresistable.
I alway beleive leading by example will lend me authority and inspiration to empower others to evolve as well.

I think staying focused on your goals is the biggest thing. If you say you're going to do something (no matter what) then just do it and stick to it. Otherwise I see no sense in saying I'm going to do it if I don't. I guess perseverance is my key. I'm just too stubborn to give up. taurus lol

I agree completely with T-N-T re goal setting - Ilove having my daily plan/ goals so I feel succesful every time I cross one off.
Last year had this on my goals for the year list - did it OK for 6 weeks but, after looking over my records, realised I did not live it breathe it etc... I was kidding myself with a "it won't hurt" attitude towards food in particular. No wonder it was too easy to drop it off instead of finishing it!!
But later in the year I did accomplish something massive - I ran the chicago marathon, somehting I have always wanted to do... just knowing that I did all the hard work and I did it is great motivation for this challenge.
So 2006 will be the year I do BFL, finish it and do it completely.

Hey Sparkleberry,
I've completed one challenge successfully and 3 not in the last year. Here was the difference between the ones that worked and those that didn't:
1) Taking before pics
2) Journaling- not just at the end of the day, but physically attaching myself to my journal and taking it EVERYWHERE with me. Crossing off days when i complete them.
3) taking my journal to the gym with me and upping my weights as frequently as physically possible.
4) Writing goals
5) Making my food simple and boring- the less I think about what I am eating, the better
What I found that didnt' work for me:
1) Talking about it. Telling people I was back on, only to fall off, made me feel like a loser. This challenge, I'm living it.
2) Not journaling
3) Expecting my hubby to live it with me and falling off when he didn't.Now he's racing to catch up :)
4) trying to make my food fancy...spending lots of time on meals makes me focus on food more. Less time on food means less focus on food, for me.
Hope this helps! Stay in the groove girl!
Robin

..on veggies... is this considered cheating or are they not really considered part of the portion thing. I am eating broccoli and baby carrots like they are potato chips when I don't feel satisfied.... Should I cut this back and use them as part of my carbs or what?
Body for Life Forum Message by tigermuscle (367 posts) at 10:41 AM
depends on how youre eating them and what kind...
if youre smothering them in butter or dunking them in ranch dressing you should stop :)
but if youre eating them like popeye would down a can of spinach Id say youd have to eat A WHOLE LOT OF THEM to cause any damage

Body for Life Forum Message by chuckdiesel99 (861 posts) at 10:53 AM
Hmm, the broccoli is fine but the carrots should not be binged on. They are one of the more carb dense veggies out there.
20 baby carrots is around 100 calories and 20 carbs.
There are much worse things to binge on though. Congrats on choosing healthy foods to satisfy you.
Body for Life Forum Message by VegasGuy (79 posts) at 11:04 AM
I agree with Kerry. I believe that Bill says "go for it" when it comes to veggies (as long as they're 'au naturale'. I know I load up on the broccoli at mealtimes because it satisfies that urge to 'eat more'. Although, I would check out the glycemic index(http://www.lowglycemicdiet.com/gifoodlist.html) on the veggies that you're eating. I think carrots rank pretty high.
Stay Strong,
Chris
Body for Life Forum Message by 3D (56 posts) at 11:52 AM
Gary's right.
Go for the veggies as long as you aren't dunking them in dressing. Salsa is okay but read the label and find one without added sugar.
Carrots rank higher on the glycemic index but their glycemic load is low so in moderation, carrots are okay. Just don't go eating bags of them each day. Besides, you'll turn your palms yellow and people will really start to wonder what's going on. (it's harmless and actually sun protective).

Eat away... in my humble opinion.
I think I read somewhere that some veggies have a negative impact on calories like asparagus and lettuce becuase it takes more to digest them then they have in them....Kind of a neat concept if you think about it... Eat all the veggies that have a negative calorie impact and never feel hungry... Whoa!
Body for Life Forum Message by GetInShape (56 posts) at 12:47 PM
Green veggies are the best. Green bean, broccoli, celery, lettuce and so on... I did hear that celery is a negative calorie because it take more calories to chew and digest than the calories it has to begin with.
Body for Life Forum Message by Forest Tech (105 posts) at 02:32 PM
I am eating them au natural so that isn't an issue.. Perhaps I will slack back on the carrots and substitute it with some green pepper or cucumber.. mm I gotta go to the store now!! Thanks everyone!

I have been doing BFL off-and-on for over 6 years now. My last challenge was probably my most successful to date and I immediately started another challenge after that one. Unfortunately, as happens alot, life got in the way. Some pretty major life changes caused me to quite that challenge halfway through. But even though I did not finish that challenge it still taught me something...as it seems each challenge does.
So now I am back on track and getting my motivational tools in place for the next 12 weeks. I usually put the before and after pics of a previous champ on my computer desktop background. I find that looking at their success on a daily basis helps me focus on my goals and to realize that they are attainable.
So here's the Odd Motivation...this time around I am using MY OWN before and after pics! Every morning when I sit down at my computer I can see what I am capable of accomplishing. I know it's possible because I have the proof right in front of me. So instead of being depressed because I have let myself go, I am inspired by what I know I can do.
Stay Strong,
Chris

What ever works huh? We are capable of so much more than we believe! Good luck Chris, you can do this! You've proven it!

I do not find your choice of pic's odd at all. It works for you! I have found pics of others do not motivate me. Granted, they show me what is possible but that is it. I then move on to my own picture to motivate me, and being disgusted with how I look. I also find posts that are quiet, informative, and humorous are the best on-line motivation for me. And the number one reason for staying motivated? Being involved with a GREAT group of local BFL'ers (fellow tracker members mellie & raygeo, plus non-tracker members Kelly, Joaquin, Denise, Mac (Robertson, Champion), Monica, and my wife Janice. I do not see how any other folks on this site can stay 110% committed to BFL without having the support of your family and other local BFL'ers. My hats are off to you that can stay committed without the local support.

I just realized the same thing last night. I finally had my after pictures developed. My challenge ended Dec. 4th. I should have done it right away because it probably would have kept me on track! I compared my befores and afters and I was really impressed with my success. Not a champion transformation but I still should have sent them in. I am inspired by myself and what I accomplished. And if nutrition is really 80% of the equation, I really CAN have a championship transformation. I start again on Monday (1/9). I know it can be done cuz I did it.

I know alot of people have been talking about The Biggest Loser lately. I only watched the finale last season, and I did watch last nights family challenge. I wanted to find out more about the contestants so I checked out The Biggest Loser website. To my amazement it appears that you have to sign up to be a member before you can even navigate the site. And the cost to be a member is $5 a week!
How lucky we all are that we have found BFL, Bill Phillips, and of course the Tracker. I know a lot of us were lost last year when the Tracker was down for several weeks. I'm sure that the info on the Biggest Loser website is good, but for the price of the BFL book you can get the BEST information out there. And on the Tracker you can get the BEST motivation out there...for free!
It's a shame that NBC feels the need to take advantage of people who need help in changing their lives. I wish I could tell all of those people what we here already know.
Thank Goodness for Bill Phillips!

I actually became a member of the biggest loser website, they had a 7 day money back guarantee. Within minutes I had decided to request a refund. Funny though you had to call their support line between 10 and 4 EST...
The content was weak actually, the messageboard was like many, lots of activity. But the diet content and excercise content was not what you would expect for $20 / month.
Their champions were really not on the website either and in the messageboards there was a lot of fawning over them, especially Matt who did not have a real profile on the site.
BFL and Tracker are definitely a bargain, in more ways than just financial.

Calling all you tracker buddies.
HELPPPPP!!!!! I can't keep awake.
I am looking for any suggestions to my above problem as I am now really fed up.
I work evenings at my local gym so I get home from work at about 10.30pm.However I find that I am wide awake when I get back from work as it feels to me about 5pm so I usually end up either doing housework or reading tracker etc.. I am usually still wide awake at 1am and not tired so I just end up lying in bed still wide awake sometimes not sleeping until about 5am.
The problem then arises in the morning that I am sleeping through 3 alarm clocks and a clock radio on it's highest volume.Eventually I wake up about 10am feeling like I have been drugged. This continues through the day until I go to work at 5pm.
I have tried going straight to bed as soon as I get home from work but again I lie in bed awake most of the night.
It doesn't help that my partner is on long term sick with stress/depression and he struggles to sleep or wake up early as he is not working at the moment.
I am trying to start a self employed business as well in the daytime but feel so exhausted I just end up feeling frustrated and annoyed with myself for being tired all the time.
I have also suffered with depression and am on medication for it.I would love to have my energy back that I had last time I did a BFL challenge but am steadily feeling more and more tired.
Any suggestions please?
Sharon

Hi, try ZMA or Melatonin for the sleep. And, maybe some warm milk.
You need to try to find a way to force yourself to get to sleep when you return home. What meds are you on? I know when I was on my anti-depressant and anti-anxiety meds it was INCREDIBLY hard to wake up. What is the business you are trying to start? Can it wait so you can focus more on BFL, yourself, and your partner? I found a lot of my ability to get through with what you are going for was the support of my doctor, my wife, my friends, and lastly but most importantly, a new found and blossoming relationship with Jesus, and going to Church on a regular basis. And, I was building my 1st ever house from the ground up while dealing with my depression, anxiety, and panic attacks, and no, the house was not the cause. :):)
Body for Life Forum Message by SkaterSharon (26 posts) at 12:17 PM
Thanks for the advice. My partner thinks the meds aren't helping me-I am on Venlafaxine.
I am doing Cake Decoration and also looking into a House/Pet sitting service.Due to the fact that my partner was only on a low wage before he was sick and he has yet to have any sickness pay we are surviving only on what I earn in 2 jobs as well as trying to sort out the self employment.
It's not helping with money worries at the moment.
Both my partner and I suffer with anxiety and I have a fear of people/confrontation which doesn't help with work.As well as sorting out the sleep problem I want to sort out my people fear this year as well.
Thanks again

Sharon,
First, I want to express my support for you and your partner. Anytime I hear about people suffering with depression, my heart breaks, because I know how awful it is. So, hugs to you both.
Second: Talk with your doctor about your meds. It might be that they need adjusting -- not all of them make you tired. I believe Zoloft (SSRI, I believe) ranks on the less-sleep-inducing-side, but your doctor will know more. Also, are you seeking talk therapy while taking meds? It makes a big difference.
I have trouble getting to sleep, too, for similar reasons. I work three nights a week until midnight or so, and when I don't work I'm up late anyway. Soon, I'll add a fourth night of class. Most of my life, I've worked night jobs (3-midnight), so I'm wired that way by now. I've tried Melatonin, which worked alright. I also tried hot "ZZZ Therapy" tea, which worked, too. It was mostly placebo effect ("This is going to relax me so I can sleep.") But who cares, long as you're snoring, right?
Best wishes with sleep and your endeavors!!!

As with Can'tStopMe, I inspired myself today. I very nearly blew off my cardio, lying in bed thinking I needed my rest because my body is so tired. But then I reminded myself about my commitment, and I got up and HIIT it in the gym. (Oh, and when I'm on the treadmill, I watch FitTv...those women are in great shape, and it a 20-minute reminder of where I want to be.)

MILLIONS upon MILLIONS of people made empty New Year's Resolutions as the clock struck midnight last Saturday night.
Did you know that informal surveys suggest that less 3% of Americans truly keep their resolutions.
EMPTY, I SAY...EMPTY!!!
So what makes YOU any different? I have already been tempted to "cheat" and skimp on my eating or a workout. IT HAPPENS! What kind of deal have you made with yourself in the event that you find yourself at a weak point? or come down from some workout or Tracker high?? I found myself "running out of time" last night and I ended up missing my planned LBWO. So I got up this morning and knocked out a solid Cardio HIIT and then made up that LBWO this afternoon! I have promised myself that April 1st will come whether I do this BFL thing or not. What do I want to be able to look back on come April 1st??? THAT REALLY MOTIVATES ME TO STAY IN THE GAME!
What is your focal point, your centering point when life trys to knock you off-balance? What motivates you to stay in the game???...What's KEEPING YOU in the GAME???

Jamber, I do the SAME thing! When I think I can't run another second, I picture what I WILL look like by staying in the GAME!! Also, the image of me as a healthy, fit "older woman" keeps me going. I imagine the day, just a few years from now, when people will refuse to believe I am old enough to have kids in college. EEEK! Now I'm scaring myself!
Oh, and a big motivation right now is not letting my buddy, Big Bull, down. Go Synergy Seven!!

Also, I always end up getting lazy with my diet & exercise because I think, "I can't keep this up forever, so I might as well not try." Now, I feel like taking care of myself HAS to be forever and the only way to make it a habit is to just keep doing it!

Determination! I'm not saying I haven't already given into temptation, but I start with one day at a time, then if I have to, change to one bite at a time. My determination is that I won't give up, even if I have a "hiccup." One "hiccup" is ok, two I can deal with...any more than that and it's just annoyance and something really needs to be done about it! So what's keeping me in the game? I'm not a quitter! And I WILL have results in this challenge! (ok..I have some stubborness too!)

I am graduating in April from Nursing school at age 43 and I want to look like a picture of health and strength. I am using the same rationale for this challenge as I did when I was trying to decide to go to nursing school. When I had negative thoughts (I'm too old) I told myself I will be 43 either way. Just like Big Bill says April will be here whether I do BFL or not.
For graduation, me and 2 other graduates are celebrating with a trip to Florida! Don't know that I'll wear a bikini but I'll look my best in an awesome one-piece!!!

Sure would love a little guidance on this. My FatTrackII and MyoTape were delivered today - COOL!!! Well, not really but it will be soon. Anyway, does anyone have a link to a good site showing exactly where each measurement should be taken? I know most of them but, for instance, for women is the chest measured under the arms above the boobies or directly under the boobies? What about thigh? Should this be the widest point? How about hips?
Would appreciate any information you trackers might have . . .
Body for Life Forum Message by nola (35 posts) at 04:49 PM
I think my MyoTape came with a diagram showing where to measure. The way I look at it, it really does not matter as long as you measure in the same spot each time, so you can see if there have been changes. The MyoTape is pretty neat...I always get a smaller number from that than a regular tape measure so IT IS MY FRIEND!
Body for Life Forum Message by kitwhit (10 posts) at 04:56 PM
I was really hoping it would come with a guide but it was packaged with the FatTrack as a freebie and the only guide was for better measuring with the calipers.

Sorry you were disappointed. Tomorrow is a new day.
Body for Life Forum Message by ashtrash (362 posts) at 07:48 PM
I make the Sundae from time to time. It works great everytime. The key is to make it ahead of time, then freeze it for at least 4 hours before you want to eat it. I just freeze it in a plastic cup or tupperware container then scoop it out when I'm ready to eat it (let it stand for about ten minutes to make it easier to scoop...)
Tastes just like ice cream if you freeze it first...
Body for Life Forum Message by Can'tStopMe (465 posts) at 07:54 PM
I think you're supposed to use a larger frozen banana. Thats where the ice cream consistancy is based.
I personally just use ice cream.
Body for Life Forum Message by rbsamy (381 posts) at 08:10 PM
Nope. no luck with it here either.
I did use frozen blueberries and then back in freezerfor a while after. Kinda like a frozen custard. It was a nice change of pace for a while. Have also wanted to try frozen strawberries.

I was reading the thread about what motivates you. I spend about two weeks mentally preparing for this challenge. I committed to how I was gonna do it. I paid attention to how gross I felt after stuffing my face at holiday parties. I thought about BFL - I worked it all out and wrote it all out. Goals/Dreams are extremely important, if you don't know where you're going how do you expect to get there? "You gotta have a dream or how are you gonna make a dream come true?"
C110(just a guess but I have started several times and never finished)W1D1 - so what is different about this one? Because it was this challenge that I was mentally prepared for. This time...it was personal. I almost cried on the treadmill my first day, was it because I was happy to be up at 6 am working out (that was a scary thought), or because I was embarrassed that my fat rolls were jiggling so widly as I did what I called running? No, I seriously think it was because it was very personal - I am not a fat person. It won't be long till I am back to me.
As a coach I train athletes that there are "4 D's" to becoming a champion....
Desire, Dedication, Discipline and Determination...it is time I start listening to myself.

Hi guys!
On the way to the gym today I thought about my recent setback and how best to deal with it. I noticed that I was still trying to determine how much of it was due to illness and how much was my fault. Then it hit me…it didn’t really matter. Yes! It’s important to learn from your mistakes but then it’s time to leave it behind and get rolling! But too often, we are tempted to beat ourselves up by playing the ‘blame game’…
“How could I have let this happen?!”
“All that progress and then I blew it!”
“Now I have to start all over!”
I’m tellin’ ya, that kind of thinking doesn’t help anything and only puts you into a disempowered and negative mood…not exactly the emotional state that promotes excitement and progress in your BFL challenge!
So I decided to adopt the perspective that I just suffered an ‘injury’ – like pro football players do! Notice how pro athletes treat such setbacks. Usually, they don’t get caught up in blaming anyone or anything. They don’t waste time beating themselves up. Instead they immediately change their focus to “How can I get back in playing condition?” They accept that injuries and setbacks are a normal part of the game…and that the only way to avoid them is to never step on the field. Of course they get frustrated and disappointed like anyone else but one of the key things that separates them from the world of wanna-be athletes is perseverance and determination.
So may I suggest that you view any setbacks as simply an unfortunate injury that will heal before you know it? Sure it’ll take a little ‘physical therapy’ to get back into playing shape. But just remember…most people live their lives day-to-day in a permanent state of setback. They have resigned themselves to being spectators and never taking the risk of getting ‘injured’… But you are one of the few who has dared to jump out of the stands and onto the field while the masses continue to let their bodies go…
But you know what they don’t know…that inside of you is an athlete who won’t settle for being a spectator ever again. Sure you may be a ‘rookie’ who will make mistakes along the way, but you are willing to stay the course until you learn the ropes and become a consistent performer. You know it may take more than one season, but you simply will not let setbacks keep you off the field…
So put that setback in the past…it was just an injury… Now it’s time for you to get back into the game! Get your game-plan ready, suit up and let’s play ball!!! It’s going to be a great season…

Ah sad to report I didn't get the green light...yet. But I was told by the specialist I could start the program on the 9th if this week of easing back into running goes ok. she's just worried that I'll over do it, I'm the clasic overtrainer. So far the running has been pain free, so I think I'll get the green light for the 9th. I see her tomorrow.
Thanks for the kind words everyone! I just bought the eating for life book. And i've tried a few of the recepies this week....yummy yummy! If you don't have to book go out and get it!

I had this same breakfast dilemma - I could get up earlier to have more time to cook, but I was always torn about what to eat.
Solution: I have a Myoplex shake for breakfast. That's what Bill Phillips did. I add a little ice to the shake and it tastes like a nice frothy milkshake first thing in the morning.

Day 3 and 4 - yea!!!
clean eating is going well - no cravings (amazing since it's also PMS time) and the workouts are kicking my butt - literally, my a$$ hurt this morning, it was hard to roll out of bed for cardio.
howzitgoin for the rest of you?

Good luck!!! My pictures are so terrible, I HAD to post them right here for the entire world to see. I know I am making this change and by posting my photos publicly, I am forcing myself to make it through and get some good after photos!
I think that having the inner strength and motivation to post those before photos on this forum, when there are no after photos yet, says it all. WE CAN DO THIS!!!
I used to dance - ballet, modern, jazz - and I was in pristine condition. I don't know how I ballooned from 150 to 190, but somehow it happened when I stopped the daily dance classes. I'm trying to figure out how to supplement my already slammed lifestyle with dance classes alongside the BFL. We'll see!!

I'm trying to get 6 meals in a day, I get 5 in (seems like I can't get the between midday and evening meal in sometimes.
I have 3 egg whites plus 3 canadian bacon in the morning, carrot sticks midmorning, a large salad at lunch, try to have canned tuna or boiled eggs, turkey sandwich with a small salad, and then canned tuna. and of course usually 500ml of water with each meal. Sounds like I eating lots, I think.

It'll hurt the longest after the first LBWO, but as you keep going, your muscle pain will disappear much faster. I feel your pain, though. I've had LBWO's where my legs shook just from driving home, and later that night, I couldn't put down the foot rest on my recliner without using my hands!

You can try the classic hot bath with epsome salts to relieve the muscles and get the lactic acid moving. Plenty of people here use supplements to avoid and alieviate muscle soreness - like Betagen and others. I don't use anything. I grin (actually wince) and bear it. I, like others, feel that when I can feel my muscles like this I know I've done good. You will either find a remedy that works for you or you will learn to appreciate it! Congrats on day 2 and good luck!

Here's a breakfast question - I'm addicted to ChickFilA breakfast chicken burritos. I tried making one at home, but it's just not the same. It seems to have all the contents in it that would make a rounded breakfast meal, but how good is it really? Does anyone know? I've stayed away from those since I started BFL, but I would love to have one.
And coffee? I was reading something and Bill says have an extra cup of water for every cup of caffeine, and his program actually included a cup of coffee every morning. I can do that. But what about specialty coffees? The coffee at my office is terrible. I tried buying fat free flavored creamer and changing the flavor to something like french vanilla, but it was still terrible. So I find myself drinking the cafe mocha every morning, which has GOT to have some major calories in it. Before starting BFL, I was having a starbucks grande white mocha every single morning. I need my caffeine!
I'm finding it so hard to resist sodas too. I'm used to having a coke with lunch just about every day, which I, of course, cannot do any more. Is tea a good alternative? What about tea sweetened with splenda?
Body for Life Forum Message by Dana D (535 posts) at 07:13 AM
Gonna..I just looked up your breakfast burrito-
Cal: 420
Fat: 19 grams!!
Carbs: 39
Protein: 23
Thats ALOT!!
Theres a couple of options u can try w/ your coffee. Can u buy a lil 2-4 cup coffe pot of your own for work? If u can, buy a really good flavored coffee, add a teaspoon of non fat creamer, splenda or sweet n low. If the flavors not quite what your hoping for ...try adding a "shot" of TORIANI sugar free, calorie free flavored syrup. I have caramel right now and its delicious.
Hope that helps
Body for Life Forum Message by tinkerbell (330 posts) at 07:30 AM
I just looked up the nutritional info on that burrito and I would stay away from it all together: 420 calories, 19 g fat, 39 g carbs, 23 protein. Free day only. Most companies have the nutrtional information on their websites, that's where I found this.
Coffee is fine, I have one cup everyday with Silk Soy Creamer (2T). I would not drink the cafe mocha, there is just too much sugar and fat in them.
Do you like Diet Coke? I drink tea occasionally, spenda is fine. Personally, I don't see a problem with having caffeine on BFL, just adjust water intake accordingly.
I mean this only in the most positive ways....for you to be successful with BFL you will need to give these things (the chickfila, mochas and coke) up. Sometimes we need to eat to nourish our bodies and not neccessarily for enjoyment. If you are exercising full BFL style, your body will need the fuel for energy to do the workouts and optimum fat burning.
Good luck!

PS. You can have this stuff on Free Day, not give them up completely.
Body for Life Forum Message by gonnabeahottie (11 posts) at 09:29 AM
Wow, I never knew those chicken burritos were so bad! I guess I won't be having any of those anytime soon.
I gave up cokes before the program started, along with beer. I'm sticking to the BFL guidelines, to a T, except for the coffee issue. I am going to try that fat-free flavor syrup, that sounds delicious!
Thanks for all the advice!

If you need a Starbucks, I get the fat-free latte. I count all the fat-free milk as one of my snacks. Fat-free milk has a combo of protein and carb.
Stay away from the added syrups and sweeteners that are in mochas. I treat myself to a mocha (one pump of chocolate only) on my free days. I love coffee and drink it with non-fat milk.

Hello everyone! I'm Melissa (31 yo)and I just started my first challenge (that I will complete) on the 2nd of Jan. I have about 80lbs that I need to lose, so I'll be around for a while. So far so good. I've been getting most of my water and I've been eating well also. I even joined a gym the day I started so I'm getting workouts in by the book.
I just have a couple of questions:
1) I can only work out at night. Will that slow my results?
2) I can only get in about 5 meals a day. Will that slow my results?
3) I hate water so I use the 4C Green Tea packets in my water. They have no Cal.s, no Fat and no sugar. I drink 10 glasses of this a day. Will this affect me at all?
Thanks in advance.

Hi Melissa! Welcome!
When did you start your challenge again? I think the finish date is a typo. Oopsie! ;)
To help with your questions:
No, it won't hurt your results if you can only work out at night. I think the book suggests that you don't eat at least an hour before working out though. Can you do that?
5 meals a day. I think it depends on who you ask. You certainly need all the valuable nutrition in each of the 6 meals. Any reason why you can't eat all 6? There are a LOT of quick meal ideas. Even a quality protein bar would be better than skipping a meal.
Water---you hate water? Oh....you poor girl. Water is my life and a BFL Absolute Must Have! Instead of the green tea all the time, what about adding a squirt of lemon instead?
Does this help??

hey Melissa,
I completed challenge 1 on Dec 17th....I to couldn't workout in the mornings.....I go to the gym after work everyday. I still had great results.
My 6th meal was about 1/2 cup cottage cheese before going to bed.....BFL considers it a meal.....I didn't, but your body needs the protein thru the night.
what do your 5 meals look like?
and the "taste" for water will develop, trust me. When I was 202 lbs. I hated water too. Now, I have coffee w/ breakfast and I drink nothing but water the rest of the day.

Melissa,
Why can't you get more than 5 meals a day in? It's possible someone here can help you squeeze one in. I plan on my 6th meal being a meal replacement shake to mimic desert (so my sweet tooth doesn't know I'm watching what I eat). That might be a plan for you as well.

There are a lot of "I can only" phrases in here. I would ask you to think about whether you really are limited or whether you are simply redefining BFL based on what you are willing to do. I would say that certainly getting only 5 meals in is going to affect your results. The problem is that no one will ever know how much. It's better to simply get the six in. You have the same 24 hours in a day that all the rest of us do--you can get six in if you want to bad enough. Doing cardio on an empty stomach is clearly the best. Whether you do it in the morning or evening is pretty immaterial. Bill recommends it in the morning because at that time your schedule is uncluttered and your stomach is empty. Resistance training is actually more effective for many people in the evening--probably because the core temperatures are up at that time and people feel stronger and are usually more flexible, meaning the workout is harder and you are less likely to be injured. As to the water question, if the green tea is decaf, no problems. If it is caffeineated, supposedly you need to drink more plain water due to the diuretic effect of the caffeine.
Body for Life Forum Message by Tomcat1066 (51 posts) at 08:38 AM
I use crystal light to flavor my water. No caffiene, no sugar, it does at a few calories though. Still, I figure it's better to take on a few more calories and drink the water than to use the fact I loathe water as an excuse to not drink enough.

Wow that's everyone. This place is GREAT!
It's not that I "can't" get the 6th meal in it's that after I workout (9:00pm) I'm just not hungry. I drink 2 cups of water during my wo, so theres no room in my stomach. I can force it down, but I wasn't sure if it's good to eat something that close to bed time. I have those EAS bar's and shakes that I could have. Maybe I'll just force my self.
I'm going to need to look into the green tea. I only have the packets in front of me, but I don't see Caffine Free written on there any place. CRAP! Maybe from now on I'll do 5 cups tea, and 6 cups water.
Agent 69 did you drop all that weight with BFL?
Body for Life Forum Message by MelJ113074 (3 posts) at 11:30 AM

Everyone on this site is awesome..
Nutz, I almost snorted my water when you said you wish your office was closer to the potty! ME TOO!!! I swear I am running up this long hall to the potty every hour.
My roommate hates water too, so I love hearing the suggestions. I have found that handing her a Myoplex in the mornings makes her drink lots of water after drinking the shake because the shake is so thick and it leaves an aftertaste in your mouth.
The massive amount of water leaves me full a lot too.
To schedule your meals, you should write out your day and look at it. I also work out in the evenings, so at 6:30 AM I make a Mypolex shake, by 9:30 when I'm sitting at my desk at work, I have a cup of coffee and a snack. 11:30 is another snack. 1:30 is actual lunch. Sometime between 4:30-5:30 I have another snack. Thats 5! Then we get dinner after our gym routine, which ends up being about 9:00 PM.
I space my meals no less than 2 hours apart, though I would rather go three hours. I'm very restricted between 6pm when I get off work and about 8pm when I get home from the gym. Then it takes and hour to cook dinner. Since dinner is so late, I make it my last meal of the day. I don't know if this is smart, but it's the best I can do right now.
I loved the idea of having a shake after dinner to fool yourself into thinking it is desert. If I'm hungry an hour after dinner, I will eat some frozen fruit. I swear my mouth thinks it is ice cream!

Okay. I'm new to BFL, though I've tried it before and never completed it. I consider myself new because this is my first real competative try.
There is a 10K on April 1. My BFL start date was Jan 2. I want to add 5 minutes each week to my BFL cardio training. According to some advice I got, marathon runners train best doing interval intensity training, just like the BFL program instructs. Basically, you warm up, then run, when you get real tired, you slow down to a walk then work up to a run again and repeat the process.
I've never been a runner. This is the process I am trying to try to train for this 10k: 10k is roughly 6.2 miles, and I've set my goal at a 12 minute mile. This week I'll be doing 25 minutes of training on the treadmill (running/walking) instead of the BFL 20, and next week it will be 30 minutes, and so on until I get up to 75 minutes of light jogging and running, which I have a goal of doing within 2 weeks of the start of the 10k.
Any advice on training for a 10k? Remember, I'm overweight, out of shape, and I've never been able to run before. Are there endurance supplements anyone could suggest for running? How about knee supports?
When training for something like this, do I need added nutrients in my diet, like for example, extra potassium to prevent cramps?
Does anyone know how adding all this additional running will affect my BFL program? Will it hinder my results?
Any suggestions on a good brand of running shoes? I have Nikes, which I love, but the arch is worn out and I need to replace the shoes.
How about knee support braces? Anyone use those when marathon training?
Body for Life Forum Message by gonnabeahottie (11 posts) at 12:56 PM
One more question - Since I'm training for a 10k and I have no experience as a runner, and only 3 months to train, should I be running every day as opposed to the BFL way of 3 cardio days a week?

Jeff Galloway is GREAT for new runners. Definately check out the site.
I am a veteran of 17 marathons. All except the very recent were run very slowly, near the back of the pack.
While its nice to have a goal time (and 12 min miles is certainly reasonable) its best to fun your first race to complete it and have fun, then set a serious goal time for a future race. It is true that interval training is good to increase speed, but you shouldn't do it every time you run. I keep to my 3 20 minute HIIT runs a week. Then, all lother running is done at "race pace" or slower. For example I do my HIIT at 7.3, 8.3, 9.3, and 10 mph for my 10's. My other running is always between 6.5 and 7.3 mph, which is my marathon pace.
When u are training for a long distance race you need to log more miles than you can do as interval training. Since u are also interested in also following BFL, I recommend doing your HIIT for only 20 minutes, then follolwing it with slower steady state cardio running, or doing such running on other days, after you lift.
Not being a weight lifter (except for that included in the BFL program, ) I dont know if this will hinder your muscle gain, but it will not stop you from losing weight to add the extra running.
I would eat normally for BFL, but definately take a break from BFL to carb load before your race.
Please PM me if you have other running questions! :) Kelli

NO DO NOT RUN EVERYDAY
are you trying to hurt yourself.... Im not trying to be an a**hole, but your body is not used to the pounding caused by serious training for any event longer than the refridgerator run. Trust me I know.....
This is what I did starting with 0 running 9 weeks ago, now I run at least 6 miles every saturday in training for a 1/2 marathon.
Go to www.coolrunning.com and find the Couch to 5k in there training programs.
Do that. I am not trying to discourage you from running your race, but If you are overweight you might want to give yourself extra time to prepare.
That being said, if you are stubborn like me, On week 5 or 6 of your C25K plan (the first time you run 20 minutes straight) start adding 5 minutes of walking to 1 minute of walking until you hit 3 miles. The next week go to 4 miles, then 5, then 6. Then congratulations 6 miles in under 9 weeks.
Make sure you have shoes that are good for your feet, regardless of brand, and please dont run everyday EVER..... maybe 4 days a week after the 9 week program
MATT
Body for Life Forum Message by Reagiesmom (392 posts) at 01:37 PM
Just wanted to say, for clarification... that you need to increase your milage GRADUALLY....no more than 10% per week. SO when I was talking about doing extra miles or slower running, that is assuming that you are ready to go beyond 3 20 0minute runs per week. PLEASE dont go from doing just your HIIT workouts to running 6 days a week. Start by adding ONE extra day in which you are out for say 10 minutes but it is slow jogging or walking. Go from there, adding milage slowly.
Many people training for 10ks or marathons don't do ANY interval training AT ALL, so keep in mind that your HIIT training is very high quality and odn't feel bad if that is all you do for a while.
That said you can do a 10k, but you should try to just finish it like I said. To prepare for that you need to build up one of your slow runs (or run/walks) to about hour in length, and if it takes longer than the time you have to do that, then maybe you should try a 5k first or do a later 10k.
Just remember, too, that IT IS OK TO WALK DURING A RACE!! Many people do it, and often walking through just the water stops willl give you the second wind you need to keep going. (That is Galloway's theory and it works for lots of people.) K

In terms of Running shoes, the best you can get are either Asics or New Balance. Nike and Adidas are more street shoes, so if you want a proper pair of comfortable Running Shoes, go for Asics or New Balance. I've recently bought the Asic Gel Kayano (apparently the best running shoe on the market) within the past two month and it makes all the difference. I run 10k on a weekly basis and there good for me.

I totally agree with Matt - do not run everyday! That is the fast track to injury and burnout!
As far as shoes go, I would definitely recommend going to a specialty running store. It makes a huge difference when the staff is trained to tell you what shoe would work best. At the Salt Lake Running Company's store here, they actually video tape you running on the treadmill, slow it down, analyze it, and determine if you over-pronate,underpronate, etc., and figure out what shoe will correct your stride. (This is all for free, too)
And don't cut corners on your running shoes. A good pair is going to be expensive. It stinks, but that is the way it is. It is your only piece of equipment, so get the best you can.
I'd recommend doing something other than running for your HIIT workouts (like the bike or elliptical)because you need to log more miles than you'll get in 20 minutes.
Just be careful to avoid overtraining. (Personally I would do a challenge first, since you have never done one, then do a 10k as well. When you try and pack so much in, it can get a little overwhelming if you are new to BFL. I'm not trying to discourage you, but it is a thought.)
Oh, and I love Jeff Galloway. He has some great advice, and great running books.
Body for Life Forum Message by gonnabeahottie (11 posts) at 01:50 PM
Thanks for all the great advice!!
I need to clarify, I am not going to actually compete in this 10k, just run in it. It is the biggest event in Charleston each year and every year some Kenyans fly in and win the race. I would be foolish to think I can compete. I did it last year, some walking and some jogging, and it was tough. My goal for this year is to be able to run it, with the other runners, even if that means some walking too. I don't expect to be competative by any means.
What I've gathered from all this advice and glancing over the websites is that I should stick to my BFL HIIT 20 minute trainings 3 days a week, doing something other then running (which Galloway calls cross training XT) and walk/jog 3 days a week, also, which I would do in the mornings before work, then do the weight lifting in the evenings after work.
We do have a specialty running store here and I will go to them for the running shoes. Will I be able to use those same shoes during my other workouts, or should they be locked up and only used for running?

I did the couch to 5k program--it was really good. Perfect for me. If you are not a runner at all, maybe train for a 5k FIRST and then for a 10k. After all, the progression would be similar anyway, but it would give you a little extra time to get ready. I'm also training for a 10k and using halhigdon.com.

You sign up for the race to compete against yourself not the Kenyans. It is the prize at the end of your training.
I trained for a 5K then a 10K while on BFL and I leaned up a lot. I do not believe it hindered my results. I did not change the diet.

Just wanted to say hello. A buddy of mine and I have committed to try again and do 12-week challenges (he did his at a different time period than mine, though), starting Monday, 1/9/06. The last time I just got enough done on my fitness to get by but really didn't stick to it as I should have and I really feel more enthusiastic this time out. I recognize the importance now of why I need to take care of myself and work at becoming the best me I can be....and to stick with it!
I have had a lot of self-esteem issues over the course of my life and knew for some time that fitness would be the one thing that could really kick my self-acceptance into gear....I just wouldn't really long-term commit for the longest time. This time I'm committed to follow through and make the BFL lifestyle a permanent change so that I can become a more tolerable person to be around and someone less negative.
The thing that has impressed me about the whole BFL thing (beyond the transformations, which are simply stunning to see) is that these are just normal people who have decided to take charge of their health, their mental well-being and their lives in a healthy way...it's really cool to be here.

And on Monday we're going to kick each others butts in the gym :)
For the record, I'm the buddy David mentioned above, so I can threaten him like that :D

Way to go guys! I'm keeping my fingers for the green light for Monday.
We should have a week by week check in that everyone can come and "confess" skipped workouts, meal cheats etc. and others can brag about sticking to the plan perfectly. It could be fun.

Thanks...To tell the truth, I'm going to experiment this weekend...I like to cook at home on Weekends when I'm not out doing outdoor stuff. I just got a small George Foreman grill and I'll be experimenting with that, plus eating more veggies....I've ate down all the el cheapo, high-carb, great-tasting, salt-bomb stuff like Ramen Noodles.
I've got some deer sausage a lady at church gave me and some other wild game from last weekend so I'll eat some of that...and more veggies.
Favorites? Oh, do you mean Bar-B-Q anything? Dairy Queen hamburgers? Regular mayonnaise? Yup, I'll probably get in the last of all that stuff before Monday. You betcha...
Thanks for the positivity and support. We're sure going to try and meet our goals...

Thanks for the welcome. I once lived in Atlanta (off Northside Drive/Hwy. 41) back in 1985...my hometown is Carrollton and my mom and an older sister still live up your way but I've been in Southwest GA now for 14 years so I guess it's "home" now...anyway, I had some great times, great friends (and GREAT bands!) up there that I'll always remember fondly...
I LIKE being here (on this site and soon to be in the BFL lifestyle, I mean). Y'all are really humble, nice, supportive and just down to earth about all this stuff. You seem to root each other on and all and that is just too cool.

See? He did say he was gonna kick my butt, didn't he? Dern, it's just Thursday and he's already at it!
But thanks, T, you're right. No room for compromise, failure, or doubt. We're gonna do it.

If you had to pick a restaurant (Mainstream).. which one do you think would have the closest to a BFL style meal.
Guess i'm looking for a place that may do some grilled chicken and rice... something simple and plain...
I have a business lunch I have to go to and will have to eat there.
Thanks for any help.

Body for Life Forum Message by reagan123 (117 posts) at 03:15 PM
what is the "Mango Salsa" that comes on it... wonder if they can leave that off :)
Body for Life Forum Message by Agent 69 (526 posts) at 03:18 PM
it's not bad at all-------you only get about 2 TBSP and it's diced mango's, diced red onion and something else BUT it tastes great.
you can look up the nutritional info. on it, it's posted

Lots of reastaurants have low fat menues these days and grilled chicken dishes. Most have a grilled chicken salad on the menu also.

Macaroni Grill
Order from the children's menu - Grilled Chicken, brocolli and penne pasta
Any restaurant you choose, just order off the kiddie menu.

hmm.. do you think i'll get some funny looks being a 26 year old male ordering off the kids menu :)
Thanks for all the help and suggestions...

Chili's has the guiltless grill portion with chicken and veggies, mmmm good stuff
Body for Life Forum Message by Can'tStopMe (465 posts) at 04:42 PM
Who cares how people look at you. I'm a 39 year old female ordering off the kiddie menu all the time. It eliminates the temptation to continue eating. The kiddie portion (especially the one I told you about at Mac Grill) is a PERFECT BFL. I even ask to double the brocolli and I forgo the pasta.
HA! Not only do I order off the kiddie menu...I'm a pain in the ass about it.

A trainer at my gym told me that if I don't change up my routine, that my body will become unaffected by my workouts. He says that I will need to switch it up to see results. Is he trying to sell himself to me or is there some truth to his philosophy?
Body for Life Forum Message by Emeril (2 posts) at 11:10 PM
I think you can stick with the BFL philosophy but switch the excercises. For example, after doing 2 weeks of bench press as your primary chest excercise (12-10-8-6-12) and flys as your immediate follow up chest excercise (12), you could switch it to cable flys as your primary chest excercise and incline bench as your secondary excercise.
The BFL philosophy, primary with immediate secondary excercises, the time limits, and hitting maximum intensity should not change. The excercises themselves can change to shake up the routine and require your muscles to make adjustments.
Likewise, with your cardio, you could change from bike to treadmill to eliptical...as long as you follow the BFL format.

Your trainer is right - you do need to change up your workout. This is inherently part of the BFL program. You are constantly working on hitting a 10 - what was a 10 this week will probably not be a 10 a month from now, so you 'll probably up the weight on a certain exercise, or adjust the spped or incline during a HIIT. You are constatnly challenging yourself.
Like emeril said, you can change up your exercise ever few weeks. A lot of BFLers i know change up their exercises every 4 weeks - just to keep things fresh...the body is very resiliant and it does adapt quickly. With BFL, you can constatnly challenge yourself.

Shauna,
Hi. Did you use regular or lite? And a whole pack to how much water?? You have to share...:)
Body for Life Forum Message by Tomcat1066 (51 posts) at 04:29 AM
I threw this together last night and thought some of you good folks might like this.
I finally got a chance to fire up the George Foreman grill last night, and chicken was on the menu. I took boneless, skinless chicken boobies and on one side liberally sprinkled onion powder and basil on it. Then placed the seasoned side down on the grill after preheating it. Then I seasoned the other side of the chicken boobie the same way and cooked it.
Not difficult, but OH SO YUMMY!!!!!
I wasn't sure if anyone else here had done something similar or not, but figure it couldn't hurt to share :D

(LIKE ME) I have found a way to not only tolerate but enjoy it. I'm sure this has been shared somewhere in BFL land, but here's my contribution anyway.
Portion cottage cheese
Portion plain nonfat yogurt
1-2 Tbsp Hidden Valley Ranch mix
BLEND (not just stir) till smooth.
Tastes as good as any ranch dip I've ever dipped my carrots in, and this way you can really dip to your hearts content as it's a balanced carb/protein meal. (Feel free to correct me if that's wrong! I understand cottage cheese to be protein and yogurt to be carb) I dip carrots and celery and it makes a great afternoon meal.

Sounds good! I hide 1/4 cup of cottage cheese on my pita pizzas! I hate cottage cheese... but it's great on the pizza!

I don't mind cottage cheese (too much)but I do love to dip veggies and haven't because I'm a mayonnaise freak. (LOVE IT). What a great idea to sub the mayo with cottage cheese in the ranch dip. I'm going try that for sure. Thanks!
