the bars work very well for me
1) convenience
2) satisfying (to me anyway)
3) help to control the sugar/chocolate urge
4) I have ONLY one per day (usually a.m. mid-meal)
5) I only use the ones that have 250 cal. or less and have a higher level of protein than carbs
I like to have a whole food protein source for my afternoon mid-meal (usually cottage cheese/apple)

First of all, you look GREAT!!!!! Keep it going! I'm pleased someone has started this topic, because I was wandering when I'd notice a big difference in my body, (Just finsihed my 2nd week and my arms are totally different!). Judging by what everyone is saying mine will hit just before xmas week, so that'll be motivation enough not to overindulge!
Again congrats Joe!

Though I do not support making excuses right at the beginning of this transformation program, I do suggest a fitness ball is probably better than sitting in front of a TV watching Oprah tell you how to live.
Body for Life Forum Message by Ryansprincess (20 posts) at 05:30 AM
I have heard alot of good things about the fitness balls. They are supposed to be really good for engaging your "core" muscles because you have to tighten your stomache, lower back ect. muscles to prevent from falling on the floor :0) It also increases stablity/balance. I would say as long as you feel you can do the req. stuff without rolling off the ball smacking your head off the ground and having a weight land on you.... you should be ok (if your wondering that happened to a umm.. friend of mine.. yah! hee hee)Good Luck!

I use an old coffee table with a blanket for padding for some bench exercises. It works pretty good.

I started out using only a ball, then I got a cheapo bench. So, now I alternate between the two.

I would have asked the young lady for a bite of the garbage... If she would have gave it to me I would then throw it in the trash and tell her it is better in the trash than in her....
You have a food issue you are still carrying around. Stay clean and forget what other people do. Or keep your Oprah mentality.... Your choice...

Wow, that is so weird...today I was running on the treadmill and i SWEAR i smelled donuts. Totally not kidding. I couldn't find the source, but I know they were there.
The smell kinda made me nauseated (or was it that 10? Or the incline? Or the smelly person next to me?) because I realy, really, do NOT like donuts...but i thought it was kind of a funny thing to smell.

I don't think that people should be alowed to eat at the front desk, but you also have to consider that if she was the only one working or was too busy for a break she deserves to eat. If she was in the back eating and didnt see you walk in then someone might be upset they weren't up front to log them in. And I'm sure everyone knows what it's like to run late and have to grab something on the go. Like a couple other people said, you really can't controll what other people eat even if it does tempt you. If you were thinking of owning your own gym just keep that in mind. I wouldn't say anyting exsp. if this was the first time it has happened. I also know alot of people that will work out religiously and eat stuff like that all the time. I don't think everyone that goes to a gym eats healthy. Maybe it was her "free day"! ~ Just my thoughts.
Body for Life Forum Message by fitchic25802 (276 posts) at 07:35 AM
I have to agree with Chuck. Just remember that yeah, she's only 20 now, with the metabolism of a small animal, but you know, as well as I or anyone else does, that you are eating healthy for yourself and all those McGriddles and cinnamon rolls will catch up to her eventually. I also don't think that people should eat at the front desk. It's just not professional. I'm sure they have a break room or somewhere they can go to eat, just not out in the front of the gym where there's the most client contact. If she was the only one working that early and knew she would be the only one working at that time, then she should have eaten in her car or before she left her house. I realize it's hard for some people, especially if you've always had a problem controlling your eating and things like that can set you off and get you off track. But, it takes will power to say no and go on your way. You didn't go off on a binge and that's great. I don't really think you're totally overreacting, but maybe just a bit. Don't let it get to you, but that was wrong of her eating all that at the front desk.

Unprofessional yes. However, you will be tempted every day, no matter where you are - you are surrounded by non-BFL people. Turn it around, use it as proof you can resist temptation and HIIT your 10's!

When I was teenager I used to swear that the day I turned 18 I was going to be a stripper and move out of the house. The closest I got was waitressing in a strip club ( I know, I know, they all say they're just waitresses). Then I did grow up just enough to get my degree in Radiology. Now I do Cat Scans. I love it. I work three 12 hr shifts and have 4 days off. What can I say, it allows me to snowboard.
I wanted to be alot of things. I wanted to be a teacher, photographer, Rock Star, model...all those girly things too.
I am none of those!

I wanted all those Girly things to Lori. Hell I even wanted to be BARBIE at one point(like they say-that bitch has everything!)
Lets see, there was Model, Actress, Beauty Queen, Playboy Bunny, Cosmotologist, Dancer, Flight Attendant, Dallas Cowboy Cheerleader. I ended up going into Law Enforcement. Go figure.
A Toys-R-Us kid! No really I wanted to be a orthodontist, but I settled for being a nurse instead. I'm also with gymbeamin, I don't want to grow up either. We're only as old as we feel.
I wanted to be the girl who puts the curl on the top of the cones at Dairy Queen.

I can get him to eat healthy at all, but his job doesn't allow him (or anyone who works there for that matter) to sit down and eat a good healthy meal. They barely even get time to get through a drive through! He's a paramedic here and the company he works for won't let them go in anywhere and sit down to eat, so all the eating (Mon, Wed, and Fri) is on the go. They are so busy that they are lucky to get to eat 3 meals a day. He's got a very high metabolism, but I know it's going to catch up with him sooner or later. Just from experience. Yes, you are one of the lucky ones. I used to play a lot of sports, so my muscles seem to really react to everything too, which is good. I'm going to try to get him into the program with me and see how he does. I just wish I could get him to take some protein powder and some protein bars to work with him for when he can't stop to eat.

"You're very pretty, but you look like a linebacker"!
One time my best friend came to Toronto for a visit. We're going to go to a neighbourhood pub that had a great band playing. In the past, they'd had a problem a bit with underage customers, hired bouncers to rectify the situation.
Anyway, we walk in, the place is packed; I see a bouncer eye us up & with a determined look makes a bee-line for us. He gets up close, takes one look and says "um, never mind, you're okay" What an insult LOL, but we laughed our heads off!
I once had my boss tell me he'd been giving one of his assistants some advice on improving her professional appearance at work (sounds a bit on the nose, but apparently she'd asked for his advice), and he told her to look at my "look" as a great example. (How nice you might say.) Then he went on to say he'd suggested me as my other female colleague was a bit too trendy, and I had a good look... you know... on a budget... !!!
Great, who'd want to look trendy when you could pull-off "budget". :-)
Kmachate...you should have said PLUCK MY EYEBROWS...HELL NO....now shave my chest and legs, yeah, that I do!
Well, everyone needs a little manscaping, right? :)
And I do NOT shave my legs :P
and I only shaved the pits for the photos..
This thread is hilarious!
Okay, I've got the MOTHER of backhanded compliments.
About 3 weeks ago I walked into the sports editors suite, (which is full of 40 something men in gym-wear, who write about sports they know EVERYTHING about, but never play), and Dan the motor-cross editor, who's the biggest loser on the planet, says to me....
Dan: "Wow, look at you! I haven't seen you since Lawrence's BBQ in August! Jane said you'd lost weight but she said you were still quite fat! She was WRONG love! You're just a little bit over weight now!"
Me: "God, thanks Dan! I'll be floating around the office all day after you've said that to me!"
Dan: "Well you deserve it because you can really see the difference! Where you wearing a red skirt yesterday?"
Me: "Yeah, why?"
Dan: "I thought it was you, but I thought. 'Nah, Jules wouldn't be able to get her arse into that little number.' It looked good on you! In fact...Do you fancy going for a drink after work tonight?"
Me: "What? Good enough for you now am I?"
Dan: "I think you are....Yeah!"
Me: "Wanker!"
**still reading Rock-Chick's post with a British twang** LOL!!
LOL!
I still remember from years ago a guy I worked with said that I had "the perfect shaped ass, if only it weren't so big." Where the hell do I go with that one?????
An old boyfriend told me I had nice hair...it was soft...like his dog's ?!
One person's response to seeing my before and after pics was "Wow, what a difference a tan makes" Yep, that's all it took was a little tanning!
I had a black guy tell me, "You're fine ... for a white girl."
For anyone who is curious, I just posted a picture of my hand on my blog..in reference to Bobby's comment that my hands are so skinny they look like webs!
Nice WEBBY HAND!!! LOL Just kidding.
Lori
Just tonight....I got from my Mom...."ooh, your shoulders are getting too manly. That's the only part I can see a difference in. You need to stop THOSE exercises."
thanks ma.
Maybe that wasn't so backhanded. Well, no, it was. Cause my shoulders are about the only part that I was seeing a good difference in! hrumpgh.
Yeah, I got that from my mom. But it was WAAAAYYYY back when I was 19. I was a screen printer, used my arms all day long then I would work out. My arms looked better than they ever have. She told me I needed to quit working out because i was looking like a man.

Call an exterminator. They do something that is safe for kids and animals that doesn't involve all that other stuff.
I owned a property and the renter claimed she had mice and "nothing" worked. They were gone in a week or so after the "professionals".
They had kids and dogs and no one was harmed.
This has brought up bad memories for me. We bought our house new. That means if its a new development the field mice need a new home.
Did you know that in one year a healthy female can produce either 8 litters of 10 or is it 10 litters of 8? Doesn't matter the number comes out to 80 and then those reproduce. The one or 2 you see is not usually all of them. One weekend Steve caught 27 in the backyard alone.
I would never ever consider using those sticky things no matter what. I'd seriously consider the exterminator. I think most have a follow-up policy too. Put poison in places the kids/pets can't get at - behind the fridge, stove, heavy furniture, up in the attic. Apparently they don't need your food, they will find their own food supply and if thats the case then they've settled in quite comfortably. Steve stubbornly refused to get an exterminator; it took us at least 3 years to get rid of them!!!!!!
Get an exterminator!!!!!!
Yes, exterminator! Or I saw these new traps on TV the other day - no "snaps" - just a little plastic container that the mouse goes in and whammo - he's dead. You don't have to see him either. Just throw the little plastic container away. But to Flower's point, you may need to buy a lot of traps! Good luck.
Check out www.doityourselfpestcontrol.com.
They have a good Q&A on just about every varmit around and offer the same supplies that exterminators use at reasonable prices.
When I temporarily had that problem I got a cat and those pest control things that you plug into the outlet. Gone within a week. Just make sure you don't have a hamster, they would like it either.
I hate to say this, because my man REALLY is one of the kindest, most giving people in the world, and a TOTAL animal lover, except for when it comes to mice. We use those sticky pad things, really pretty traumatic. This is the bad part, he takes them and throws them into the fire, alive. I refuse to be around while he does it, it is sadistic. Once I came home to find that my man vacumed up a mouse in the Dyson, so our cat could torment it to death. I'm not proud, but he is the love of my life...Thread: The Dog Thread (248 Views)
Okay this is a creative cut & paste job & sort of messy; any discrepances I apologize. Thought it deserved its own spot. You all out there have to add to the list as you see fit.
I should have when I had the opportunity given each member my thoughts of them when they were on board. They were all such integral parts of this board and part of a pack. Like dogs:
Kerry: Golden Retriever - everybody loves him, why wouldn't you?
Stone Oak - remember him? Bulldog - but if he rolled over you could scratch his belly - I do miss him.
Supa K - Boxer - funny, idiotic, bestest friend ever & just because thats my favourite dog
kmachete - Boxer wannabe (LOL) reminds me of one of the boxers that I always thought was a dud but turned out to be a great dog - read between the lines, I truly mean it.
J-Dub - German Sheppard - always has a presence, doesn't necesssarily stand out in a crowd, but is a ferocious protector.
Goddessa - she's in the category with J-Dub, Stone Oak with a bit of a pit bull in her - the type we love to touch the muscles.
TNT - well she's a little chi-wa-wa (oh spelling please!!!!!!) I love her the best when she's all bouncy & cute or just lays down for a nap, then she's up again with a bow in her hair.
Karla - well Karla if you ever read this I'm so okay with you because you have a tail - woof.
Supergirl - I think you'd have to be an Irish Setter, lean & slim, pretty to look at; picture it - if an Irish Setter could sing, she'd have a beautiful voice.
.
Flower, you're a Pit Bull. Don't take that the wrong way - They've been given a bad rap. Pit Bulls are great, beautiful, strong dogs. You're not afraid to take things head on, say what's exactly on your mind and fight for what you believe/feel. And you're loyal, loyal, loyal to your friends. Woof.
Traceyyyyyyyy...you left me out...I wanna be a dog...(wow, things I really never thought I would say...)
BTW...Tracey...your a cat sista...all about the independence, and doing it your way...but a super cool cat, and the kind that once you gain their affection, you got it for life...you remind me of my cat Josie, and Josie is the coolest... Hugs Christie and I so felt your post girl.
Yeah, Tracey, what about meeeee? What dog am I?? (boy you really got yourself into this one! LOL:)
Well folks, I used to post a lot too, and I've started a couple of good threads in my day, but I am kind of "off" right now, just till friday. But I have been off for a little while and just maintaining. SO I don't feel worthy to be doling out advice and kicks in the butt when I am not "ON" it myself. This is where I rationalize my blogging because it is more than just BFL. I can bore you all with other things besides my BFL program.
Another reason I don't post too much is that I feel like I have already posted about pretty much every BFL topic there is and I feel like most questions (with some VERY good and thorough answers) could be resolved by going into the archives. Seriously, the archives have IT ALL! So for all of you people, please visit the archives first, for things like cardio music, eating schedules, good quotes, recipes(although we love Caroles new ones! :) etc. and I am sure you will find what you need. You 2 are gonna be difficult.
Christie (Bflmom2004) - Not for looks, for personality - Boston Terrier, a friendly and lively dog. The breed has an excellent disposition and a high degree of intelligence, which makes the Boston Terrier (Christie) an incomparable companion. Definately you - LIVELY & FRIENDLY!!!!
Jamber - Definately Australian Shepherd - an intelligent, active dog with an even disposition; is good natured, never quarrelsome, strong herding & guarding instinctism, loyal, the stamina to work all day - c'mon what else with those darn kids???????
Then I saw her all dolled up in her new jeans, hair done nice and thought AFGHAN LOL!!!
Wow, I don't know that much about dogs but I am not sure I want to know what kind of dog you think I am. LOL
This is funny though.
Lori
roflmao...you nailed it girl, and ummm, you couldn't have picked a better one for Janel either, that was too funny...
Hugs
Christie
kmachate - you mentioned at least I didn't say Chinese crested, however, that could work for you:
Distinct variety with hair only on the head, tail and feet, serves as a loving companion, PLAYFUL & ENTERTAINING. This last part is true but is for JOKE PURPOSES ONLY - gay & alert.
I responded to this on your other thread, and, "meow". :)
ok Tracey....so if I were a dog (which I'd still rather be a cat!) what kind would I be?
Don't forget...
Big Bull.... BULL MATSIF. Larger than life- overwhelming.. crashes into everything, tail wagging the whole time:)
Yours in Health,

Jim,
No offense- Shar Pei- lol, pensive, determined, can fight like nobody's business when of the mindset, and has lots of excess skin:) ( as in lost lots of weight)
Kerry
Sweet Emotion,
Airdale- definitely a show dog:)
Jamber- a wolf!- fiercely protecting her pack
Chiachi- scrappy doo:)- lol, bobbing, weaving, flittin in an out a mile a minuite, and of course ounchin:)

I wanna be a dog too!
how about me ????
Workin on it, perhaps the in house dog expert Flower can give me a hand. I gotta go away for a few days.
I wanted to add Nancy Jane for those who missed the original thread.
Nancy Jane- Husky- Beautiful, loyal and hard working- with the occaisional, untamed wild streak.
Kerry:)
Too funny Dana D.
Airdale??? Don't even know If I have seen one.
Lori
Lori,
I spelled it wrong. Airedale (i think)
Long, lean, proud. Comfortable in the spotlight :)
Kerry
Wow you guys are good. I love mine!! :)
Danas is perfect!!
I am definitely NOT comfortable in the spotlight. In a big crowd i like to sit back and observe.
Lori
O.K. Flower, in your honest opinion, who would you think mostly resembles Scooby Doo? And what kinda dog is he anyway? Just curiuos.
JAMBER- I hafta add that you are a Aussie Shepherd Mix with a POODLE!
You have all the Aussie qualities mentioned above, but your wrapped in a Poodles body. Yall know the poodle thats all beautiful and groomed? Oh yeah...lets not forget that youre the Gorgeous Poodle that all the GOOFY Boy "Mutts" like to chase! hehehehe
Okay lemme see;
Dana D - Bassett Hound - while its movement is deliberate, it is in no sense clumsy. In temperament it is mild, never sharp or timid. It is capable of great endurance in the field and is extreme in its devotion.
Have to add this, as I just read this & is quite fitting:
Supergirl - Irish Setter - swift-moving hunter; at home, a sweet natured, trainable (????? LOL) companion. The lines of the Irish Setter so satisfy in overall balance that artists have termed it the most beautiful of all dogs, she always exhibits balance, whether standing or in motion. Each part of her flows and fits smoothly into its neighboring parts without calling attention to itself.
Zooman - you'd definately be a garden varity Heinz 57!!!!!!
And BTW - Scooby is a Great Dane.
TracyJeffries - Weimaraner - fine aristocratic features, presents a picture of grace, speed, stamina, alertness & balance; indicates the ability to work with great speed and endurance in the field. Plus have you ever seen the contrast of their colouring with their eyes?!?!?
Wait a sec;
DreamCatcher - Cocker Spaniel - definately; overall dog complete balance and of ideal size, capable of considerable speed, combined with great endurance. Above all, she is free and merry, sound, well balanced, is more desirable a dog with strongly contrasting good points and faults.
As to who is Scooby Doo (per Zooman) - maybe tigremuscle?????
Okay, one more:
Karla - Rottweiler - for one simple reason, they are devoid of tail (but if you venture close enough you will find that she did own one at one time). But upon further investigation have found this a suitable match - basically a calm, confident &courageous, self-assured aloofness that does not lend itself to immediate and indiscriminate friendships, self-confident & responds quietly and with a wait-and-see attitude to influences in her environment, intelligent with extreme hardness and adaptability with a strong willingness to work, making her especially suited as a companion, guardian and general all-purpose girl.
Cocker Spaniel? They can have a mean streak, which I don't think I do! I used to help my step mom (she was a dog groomer) and I've gotten bitten more than once by a cocker spaniel! Oh lordy, I guess I asked for it!
See, these could be wrong. Never would have thought of DreamCatcher as a chomper with a mean streak!!!!!! The other way around, matter of fact.
lol...i guess I could still be part cocker, see and part cat (wow, just got a visual that wasn't too pretty!) the cat is my purring side!
Zooman, in a pm suggested, I was a Bouvier Desflandres. While somebody above so very suitably (especially as of late) put the label of pitbull to me, I did a search and had a snicker when I came upon this description - it was the first thing that came up. I've capitalized "key" words LOL:
The Bouvier des Flandres is a powerfully built, compact, rough-coated dog of rugged (coarse) appearance. He is agile, SPIRITED and BOLD with a calm and steady manner. The Bouvier is easy going but aloof, he can sometimes be serious or MOODY (lets add harsh too). His herding instincts will keep him close to home. Used in police work and helping the blind, he loves the COMPANY OF PEOPLE.Thread: Anyone watch UFC last night?? (56 Views)

Did ya notice Trevor Prangley from Coeur d'Alene, Idaho??
You are full of surprises,
I'm not sure if I watched the one you were referring to, but I did see Hughes fight Frank Trigg ( the bald guy) twice.
Gained new respect for Matt.

Matt fought Joe Riggs.

If you want to check out Carole and the other competitors go to http://www.morrisonproductions.net/Thread: What's with the tan? (150 Views)
I see everyone posts their final photos with a major tan. Why? It doesn't look very natural on some people. The before and after photos crack me up. Everyone looks sad and slouched for the before and then is tan and made up for the after. I know you want to look your best on the after shot, but it is sometimes like comparing apples to oranges.
Funny, I've also wondered about the baby oil some shalleck (spelling?) all over their bodies. I suppose it helps with definition. Whatever it takes for some of those men to shave the sweaters off their chests.
Blame it on Hollywood! :)
A tan & sheen definatley show muscle definition and is generally more enhancing - make no mistake. Some tans, some oils are better than others, thats all.
Wake up and smell the Starbucks, people! This is the big time!
The whole idea is to look as miserable, fat, pale & pissed off as you can initially, because you're a miserable fat, pale & pissed off slob...UNTIL...
*insert dramatic music here*
dum dum duuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuummm
BFL makes you fit, buff, thin & happy again! Why not go get some sun while you're happy, too!
OK, actually, the tan makes your muscles look more defined, as do dramatic lighting and shine. It's really that simple..
FACE IT! We all look silly enough in underwear or bikinis or whatever, either in the before or after, without some kind of "assistance." Of course, in the before photos you want to look awful--they are best if they look like some kind of a lineup photo, or think of it as a full length mug shot! But, the afters better show the muscle, if you have any, and so that's why the tan and baby oil or PAM come out! For my money, dry looks better than oil any day. Oily sorta looks like old time bodybuilding or porn show sleaze! Dry and tan, with definition, is best achieved with something like Dream Tan, which is washable, though not really water soluble, and is available at Bodybuilding.com and pet stores everywhere! Thanks for posting this. I really would like to find a cereal with enough protein in it for a meal. I just don't have enough time lately to cook in the AM (kids, etc) throwing cereal in a bowl with skim milk is MUCH faster!
Any other way to add extra protein without having to actually "cook" anything?

Stephanie, thanks for the info. Thread: Cheese from the Cottage... (161 Views)
I eat the 1% cottage cheese. I really don't like the FF versions. YUCK!
I also eat cottage cheese daily, at least 1-2 meals. I just watch my sodium with the other meals. I was suprised to see how much sodium there is in the myoplex lite shakes. It all adds up quickly.
I can't eat CC unless it's blended. Sorry to be gross but I had three babies and CC just looks like baby sick. Sorry!! But I can eat it if there are no chunks in just about any form. I even use it as faux mayonnaise. It is regarded as a "perfect protein" so it's good to include in the BFL diet. Are you sure it's the FF stuff putting you off? Maybe try it blended with a bit of yogurt. . .
Anyway, I wish you well.Thread: What are YOUR BFL Thanksgiving plans? (184 Views)

the EFL pancakes are right on for me for protein, but the carb count is a little high, but its a complex carb, so its not setting me back too much.Body for LIFE: Body for LIFE Exercise

Hi, I am not sure what my name means, or what type of dog I am. I've been randomly reading these posts since about my first week. (I'm week 8 starting tomorrow) I saw some bickering, but that's normal. I've seen people helping each other, that's good too. I've only posted in the guestbook. But I like this set up better. Guestbook is set up wrong in my opinion. It works backwards. And doesn't track the last message you read.
Most of you guys are pretty cool. And everyone has valuable info. I've learned alot reading these posts and the guestbooks posts. Without them I would do more floundering. That's my two cents. PS: I do like Mike, and Chris's ramblings!
I did a bad cut & paste to O/T category - The Dog Thread.
"Karla - well Karla if you ever read this I'm so okay with you because you have a tail - woof. "
Not anymore! ha ha. In any case, I'm just glad you're okay with me. Plus, I think i want to be a cat, too. A tail is a tail is tail, after all.

I come here to motivate others by showing them that part of making it in this program is to get rid of the "I can't" or "Quit" voices so many of them still carry around.
Some times a good slap in the face is all they need, and I care enough to provide it....
What first attracted me was the before and after photos. They are so inspiring!
Also, it's wonderful to be part of a community with common goals. Speaking about this program with some people who aren't into fitness makes me feel like they think I'm self-absorbed or obsessive...
This place makes me believe that so-called ``ordinary' people can do extraordinary things -- all you need to do is make the decision.
I come here for support. It is comforting to know there are real people living the BFL lifestyle!
I agree with everyone on all the reasons for coming and staying. (I just don't want to write it all)
i come here cause you guys motivate me. not just with your successes but with your struggles and overcoming those tough times......it makes me see that i am not the only one that faces these things and it helps me to overcome them. i may not post as often as some people but beleive me i am here on a daily basis (ok usually several times a day)
I'm kinda new. I started lurking here a few weeks ago. I decided I wanted to "try" a challenge (yet again) and was searching around for BLF stuff. I came across Evielee's blog which lead me here. I was absolutely amazed by Evielee's results, and so many other stunning transformations in the photos on this site. Then I found that the people and the support offered is amazing as well, so I'm sticking around and hoping to contribute a bit too.
And thanks to the inspiration I get here I'm no longer going to "TRY" a challenge - I'm going to "DO" it this time!!!
I was so excited to find this site through the BFL guestbook. I was a visitor for a few hours and I was hooked. I got answers to guestions and the motivation is awesome. I have tried several times unsuccessfully to do BFL. If it weren't for all my tracker buddies, I don't think I would still be doing BFL. (2nd challenge)
I come here for the great advice and support, and also to track my stats and photos. Yeah, some of the advice repeats, but that's okay. Some people are new, and need to hear it again.
And yeah, sometimes it gets negative. The tendency is to let yourself get sucked in to those threads, because they are entertaining. If for entertainment purposes only, fine, enjoy. But if it gets under your skin or you take it too seriously or personally, best to stay away and stick to the positive threads. I still think there are plenty of those.
I don't post as much partly b/c work has been hella busy, and partly b/c I've been unable to finish my challenge, so I don't have as much to contribute.
I am here to get inspiration and motivation. I look over the sucessess of everyone here and I know that if they can do it, I can do it too. So many times I have slipped up, now I am taking it one day at a time. I feel I have friends here that care about how I am doing and are here to help me every step of the way. Thanks everyoneThread: Roll out the red carpet unless your a Non-American! (400 Views)
Great post, Aaron.
Congratulations on being one of the final 6! That's wonderful! You really deserve it!
What's with all the trolls getting all smarmy? (Not you, Aaron..)
I'm not getting this. From what I can see the finalists are criticised for putting a profile on Tracker. Then they are criticized for posting, because its like campaining(in some cases, yes probably but who cares, you could have voted for whoever you wanted to)Then, if they Don't post its like they are not here helping us and supporting so they are critcized for that too. I mean, which is it?? If I was a finalist I'd be really unsure of what to do. Post and get everyones panties in a ruffle, or not post and get everyones panties in a ruffle.....HMMMMMMM
Why can't we just be happy for these people who have worked so hard? It dosn't lessen the our success, it only makes us better people.
Good Morning. Woohoo free day! I can have butter on my extra slice of toast!
*munches thoughtfully*
I've been thinking (uh-oh) of what it takes to be a finalist and I've concluded that part of it is being ripped apart publicly--and often by people who hide behind fake profiles.
Thank you Aaron for dropping by to clarify things. Please understand you're not the problem here. . .it's (once again) a person making an inflammatory first post without even taking the time to introduce himself first. Congratulations Aaron on a job very well done!
Congrats to Aaron - good to see an Aussie up there. Also congrats to all the finalists who will be an inspiration to so many for years to come. Well done :)

I got the Cougar from my best friend Lucy, when we were 20ish I was dating a youger guy he was 17 or something, and thats when I got that nickname, and now that I'm turning 30 in a few months I guess thats what men call hot woman over 30? who knows its just been my name for a long time.
My screen name is my nickname that my family calls me. My dad started calling me tony the tiger when I was little, but as a teenager I changed the spelling to be more original than just tony or toni. What can I say I've always been creative.
T- first name is Teresa
C- middle initial
Stone- my last name.
yeah, I am so original ;)

wow, I find this so intresting.....I think threads like this help us to see how we view ourselves
and it's good to see that some of you sleep about as much as I do
Well, it's pretty literal... it means I haven't felt like my "old" self for about five years - in 2000 I felt invincible, pretty and confident. I want to get back to that feeling.
You know what's funny? In real life I am a professional comedy writer, but I find myself being very serious on these boards. I'll lighten up after a couple weeks, promise! Have to have a sense of humor when the going gets tough...

Mine is a secret that I guard very closely. Well not really it's a writing pseudonym/calling card I've had for years and it's stuck with me. I originally conjured it up by closing my eyes and pointing to a name in the phonebook.Thread: cell phones....... (148 Views)

Tinkerbell, I'm considering giving this a try but have a question on Monday and Thursday's meal #5 - it doesn't appear to contain a protein source - is this correct?
I'm a little confused...
Thanks so much and congratulations on 4 lbs. gone!
Rachel =)
Yes, that is correct! It's a carb only meal. I know, I questioned this a little before I did it, but it worked. I was really full after the meal, but I still went down on Tuesday and Friday's AM weigh-in (I'm a daily weigher). The 1T of butter was awesome, I haven't had butter on anything for months, that's what kept me going on Tues & Wed thinking about the butter LOL!!
Give it a try and let me know how you feel. I just want to warn you, if you are eating somewhat "normal" the low carbs and low calories may cause you to be a little irritable. I didn't notice it much. Also, this is for a 145-135lb female and it's just about exactly 1300 calories.Thread: Layer by Layer...anyone alive (200 Views)
Hamlet...your very 1st line ("Ive lost all confidence in this program") sums it all up!
YOU hafta BELIEVE that it WILL WORK for you. The MINDSET is the biggest factor in BFL success. Having the belief will fire the DESIRE and DRIVE to take your workouts to the next level everytime, and to put your food (and YOURSELF) as a PRIORITY.
I know first hand how difficult it can be...Ive ATTEMPTED countless challenges in the past without truly BELIEVING I could/would reach my goals. And guess what? I never had success. After some very deep "soul searching" or whatever ya wanna call it, I FINALLY got my mindset right back in August. The result-Ive dropped 42lbs & 4 sizes. You can do it too!
We all know that YOU CAN have success and BFL WILL work for you...but Y-O-U have to believe it.
Please stick with it...were all behind you.
Don't give up Hamlet. You can make this work for you!!
Like Dana D says you have to BELIEVE!!
Hamlet...
You have to do it for you! Are you wanting to do this to please someone else? It ain't gonna work. I'm struggling myself right now and know I just need to kick myself in the butt again... But I will make it through this challenge and the next and the next because I refuze to fail myself! Bill said to honor your own self promises!!! If you wanna talk to a Layer member (formally 235 lbs..now struggling between 186 adn 190)..feel free to pm. I totally understand the lack of support...but I blame myself for my own struggles..I haven't reached out to ask (to self conscious..I don't deserver help..etc.) But you had the guts to ask..I'm willing to work with you if you want!
Jacque
Dear Hamlet34,
Try not to give up, I've just been doing BFL for 14 weeks now & have never felt better! I think back to the first few weeks & remember it was other people who started to notice the change in me before I did. I think because you are younger you will see the differences sooner! Try hard to plan your meals on the weekends & freezing some of them so you don't have to do so much work when you are busy going to work/school. I make omlette's up on the weekend & with turkey bacon, potatoes, veggies & egg whites & throw the whole thing into little freezer containers & just grab one in the morning & cook it up @ work, I also like to make a turkey based spaghetti sauce with tons of veggies in it & pour that on Whole wheat pasta, just measure out your portions ahead of time!
I hope this might help you a little bit!

I agree - between them all it is a very tough competition. Personally if will not affect my life in any way, so really don't care who wins.
But secretly, I hope Cheryl wins.
LOL Flower. Me too! Go Cheryl! But well done to EVERYONE on the BFL programme.
I think they are all winners! Think of the thousands and thousands of transformations there were and to make it to the top 15....then the top 6... wow!!! I have my personal favorite, but if that she doesn't win, it wasn't meant to be. She is already a champion to me!!!!
Stef :-)
great post
I'm feel certain it's been an issue before this year....maybe every year
I agree with Stef, I think we all have our favorite...someone we hope will win.
I also agree that they all worked hard to re-create themselves physically, afterall, who could really know how much work it takes except for someone who is in the midst of their own recreation
well done, I agree
Actually, the 15- any of them could/ should have one- not to mention thousands following BFL globally, including many here- the only site i visit.
I beleive, it is possible the future will be different, and my wish is that Kenny and the others, James, Avant, Nheryman ( sp ) etc. continue to post and share their wisdom , encouragement etc for all:)
Yours in Health,
Kerry
Opps, yeah, Cheryl knows I am pulling for her as a personal favorite! :)

Great Post TC!

yep, agreed.
I an just as anxious as the rest to see who wins and have a personal favorite. But really, as you said...they all did a great job. So in the end....it doesn't matter!

This week is a new week and I am even more determined then before!
I hope everyone else is doing well.
Get me your stats by tomorrow for the extra 2 points.

First of all, I would love to welcome you back. It is wonderful to hear that you are so excited to get back on track. we all have times that throw us off and the ability to get back to it is half of the battle.
The only update that I will give is that the Tracker, not unlike yourself, was a little under the weather and everyone is excited to be back "on track" here as well!
Again, welcome back and feel free to express all of your ups and downs, questions and concerns. We will be happy to help and support you!!!!

Sylvia Thread: What does this mean? (89 Views)
I updated my profile and at the top of the page is says this:
This is a change of 7.2 lbs of muscle and 10.2 lbs of bodyfat if the measurements are correct. These figures are only as good as the accuracy of the weight and bodyfat measurements taken.
Okay, so what does this really mean for me?
Teresa
It means that although you only show a drop of 3 lbs of SCALE weight, you really lost over 10 lbs of FAT. The difference was replaced over 7 lbs of lean muscle, which is a good thing. Muscle gain raises your metabolism, which in turn burns more fat.
It means you're a buff babe basically! LOL
oh, well I'll take 10 pounds of fat loss. Sounds good to me.
Yes, I am a buff babe....under all the fat. hee hee.
See, I have a ripped stomach and rockin legs....I just like to hide them.
Oh my god me too!
See, we do it so the Hollywood A-listers feel good about themselves! How generous are we???
Really, I'm the pinnacle of sexiness! I just don't want to rub peoples noses in it....Coz I'm as selfless as I am beautiful! LOL
haha. EXACTLY.
I'll just lose my fat SLOWLY as to not offend anyone. So gracious I am! Always thinking of others.
(tee hee)
LOL! Yeah, that's what I'm telling myself! ;)
Thread: I'm freaking Out!!! (107 Views)
Alright I have been working my butt off at the gym and following the program like I should. Some days I don't get the water in that I should, due to my schedual. I do 6 days of cardio and feel my body getting harder but don't see scale results and my clothes are somewhat the same. Tomorrow will be starting 2nd week. Do you think I'm overreacting?? I really thought I would lose some weight!! Rebecca
Chuck the scales Rebecca! Remember muscles weighs more than fat! It's not an accurate measure of your achievments.
Jules x
You're (most) likely over-reacting; give it some more time. As well, skip the 6 days of cardio (you are doing the BFL program are you not?). Do the HIT every other day, not that its "hindering" your progress its just unnecessary.
ONE WEEK of hard effort is probably not going to reveal much changes in anyone. Though a small weight loss would look nice this early, probably your 6 days of cardio and failure to drink the requisite amount of water have allowed fluids to accumulate in the soft tissues. You might try backing down the cardio a bit and give your body a break so that it can recover. That can often allow the release of the retained fluids and cause a quick weight loss.
It was hard for me to let go of cardio every day. I'm just finishing week 2, and I've found I've had more energy now that I only do it every other day. However I find that I get a better workout doing 45 minutes on my cardio days, simply because I get to warm up and cool down. Cardio makes me absolutely starving, so it's been great to just do it 3-4 times per week, because it's actually curbed my appitite.
For thouse who have a little more knowlege than me on the subject, can cardio actually burn off the lean muscle tissue you build up on your "weights" days? I read that somewhere.
Rebecca, You need to give it some time, you're just starting your second week!! Stick with it, you will see results!!!
Hugs,
Sylvia

I don't think the person entering should be able to choose their month.. Only because Mike & I would have to fight about June or October, since those are the months that *I* want too ;)
Body for Life Forum Message by Larry (101 posts) at 07:12 PM
I've already had a few entries. Cool!
I've also had two questions about how people will vote. So here's the answer:
This is a quick project, using Cafe Press, to get a calendar out within a month. It's primary purpose is to "have fun" and "raise funds" for Julie Whitt.
Voting will take place online via email. We will rely upon the honesty of the voters, after all, this is a group of BFLers supporting other BFLers -- and Julie Whitt. Nothing is at stake but a fund raising effort. Who would cheat with that in mind? And if they do, God bless them!
But before anything happens, we NEED to get the 200 to 300 DPI photos in. The reasons why are posted on the calendar webpage.
So get those photos in. It's up to you!
And let's have some FUN with it!
Larry

I have started a few challenges over the past few years... 6 or 7. Well, I was doing great and had my head in it to finish when my mom called and said my sister was being rushed to the hospital in Florida. They thought she was bleeding internally. We took off from NC to FL and spent a week waiting on test results and now we know... my 30 year old beautiful sister has Acute Lymphocystic Leukemia. She starts chemo tomorrow. She shaved her head today because she wanted to control something. I have to do this for her. My goal is to train and train hard and run in a marathon in 2006. This is for her!
I love you Cyndi and God willing you will pull through this even if I have to give you bone marrow - you know I will!
Please pray for my sister.

OH NO! I fell off the wagon. I just have such a hard time. First, it's like I wake up and have to go to school. As soon as I get out of school on most days, I have to work. I work every day, and it's only 3-7, but still. By the time I get out of work, I'm so tired of standing around (I work at a clothing store, standing on cement floor for 4 hours straight, waiting for customers) that I have no motivation to work out. Plus, I never have time for meals, so I have to eat a "meal in a bar" at like almost all of my meals, and those are starting to get so expensive. By the time the weekend comes (which I usually work on Saturday 12-5, I'm not allowed to eat a real meal because it's not a long enough shift, so once again, I get so tired, and hungry after that shift that I just go home, veg out, and eat. I NEED some advice, BAD. I need HELP! Please!

Hi, just wanted to say its ok we've all been there, just carry on and it will be good. Have you been preparing your meals ahead of time? I work with people hands on and I never get a lunch, but I try to find 5min every 3-4 hours to get my meals in. I pre cook and freeze all my chicken for the week and bake my sweet potato and freeze it too. Thats two of meals done, my breakfast I microwave 2/3 cup of oatmeal and 2 scoops of protein powder and eat away, thats at 8ish, then at 10 I have a ready to drink shake, 1pm my chicken and potato, 3pm same as 1, 5ish, chicken, fish or steak with two helpings of salad or steamed veggies, when i first started i would miss meals because i was so unorganized but now i take a cooler everywhere i go, and it works. anyways hope this helped Love Lori

I know what you mean about being tired and not having the motivation to work out but believe me- if you can drag yourself to do it, you will have so much more energy when you're done AND you'll be so happy you did. I am a high school teacher so I am on my feet (in heels) all day long (From 7am to 3pm). Then I pick up my daughter from preschool, take her home and try to play with her, get the house picked up, and make dinner. After dinner, I clean the kitchen, tend to my internet business by answering e-mails and filling orders, give my daughter a bath, do the whole bedtime routine, and finally get her in bed so I can take care of some more customer orders, check the EAS and Tracker Forums/Guestbook, write in my EAS journal and then make it to the gym around 9 or 10. Some days, I feel dead because I wake up at 5:00 but when I drag my butt to the gym, I always feel so much more energized afterward. Meals are tough for me, too, because I can't exactly eat in front of my students but I do what COUGAR does and I prepare them ahead of time so I can put something down in the 5 minutes between classes. A tuna & spinach wrap on a whole wheat tortilla goes down quicker than you think! :) It isn't easy but if you make the decision that you REALLY want this, you'll fit it all in. Best of luck to you. Let us know how it's working out. Hugs, Jen

Best advise I can give is if you are thinking about not eating clean you best not whine when you look in the mirror and claim you are not progressing.
Once you eat clean even on a free days for many years, you will find that the crap eats make you feel ill.... Yeeeuck!!!! But if you have to suck in your fats and crap!!!

I'll take Thanksgiving as my freeday, then Saturday thru the rest of the holidays. With two exceptions - Christmas Day, obviously (it's a Sunday) and Cookie Day. That's the day my mom and I make cookies together. Usually about 10 different kinds?!? It's crazy good times, baby...
Yes, it will be an extra free day but I have made that conscious decision. It will help keep my self-promise to eat clean on all the other days. And I will.

Ask yourself the stupid question: Does the TV program motivate you enough to get off your arrsss.
If not think of it this way: While they are busy losing you are busy spreading...
If I could, I would make it that the only way to watch the show would be if your physical effort generated the electricity to watch it. The Oprah show would be another target for my sincere, caring, and tough approach....
Love you all enough to say it like it is friends.......

Gosh, in an ideal world, my boyfriend thinks that is the only way the TV should be powered - though our own physical effort. The TV should be hooked up to a treadmill or stationary bike and it works as long as you ride. I know that this technology is out there...it just not here...in my house...

Um, Jennifer A.....are you dating my exhusband?
Yeah, he had a bike modified and hooked up to the TV for power. He never used it, but thought other people should.
Okay, so TV is an entertainment. And pretty much the only time I have to watch TV is when I am on the treadmil anyway at the gym or while I am multi-tasking my school work and the TV. Which happens to be when I watch the Biggest Loser. The one of two shows I watch per week.
But if I had more time to watch TV, I certainly wouldn't only ever watch it while exercising.
People go to movies right? Not doing a darn thing there. Plays? Theatre? People are so quick to bash tv cause Americans...maybe Canadians and Brits,too...I dunno...but because we watch too much, but hell, we eat too much too.

In 2001 Ray Taylor was crowned the BFL World wide inspirational champion. The amazing events that brought this visually impaired, middle aged man to the attention of EAS were chronicled in an independent documentary film called FACING GOLIATH. That film premiers across the nation of Canada this January. See the details, copied from the EASCanada site below.
Hello to the BFL team in Canada,
I wanted to drop by to let you all know that a date has been confirmed for the national Canadian broadcast of FACING GOLIATH, the story that follows Ray Taylor from his small town of Dumfries to the national bodybuilding stage in Halifax.
This is a significant part of Ray's story of transformation. It was just a month after filming that Ray was told he was one of the world wide BFL Champions. This prompted us to make a veiled (due to legal concerns) reference to Ray's BFL success at the end of the film. More on the film is found here: www.sebastianmaclean.com/film_producer.html
The program will premier on the CBC Country Canada Network, Monday January 9th, in a program segment category known as DOCS AND JOCKS. It has a one and a half year window in which the network will play and replay the documentary. This particular network is a digital satellite network, so can only be accessed if you have digital cable or satellite TV in Canada, as far as I know.
This is a film that has defied the odds, both through the creation of the project, as well Ray's personal struggles and achievements. Facing Goliath was shot with less than $3000 in cash and has only been possible because of the support of those who believed in Ray and the story.
As with the films production, it will depend on the support and interest of people in the health and fitness community to make this little film more than something only a few will see. The more people that can be encouraged to watch the film on this network, the greater the possibility of the film moving to the main CBC network and maybe networks across the US.
It is my hope that a big deal can be made out of this little film. Ray put a lot of himself into seeing just how far he could push himself. He can been a great inspiration, I'm sure, to as many people as are able to tune in and see FACING GOLIATH. Not only that, but I know that his journey can be a lesson to many others with far less to deal with, that they can reach for more in life.
I am asking for you all to help in spreading the word about this story and about when to see it. Help me tell this story to the rest of Canada. Let's get the word out to people about this film and maybe they too can see how great physical transformations, can be the beginning of great inner transformations.
Many thanks,
