I am not a big fan of charting either . What I found that works is this.. I workout in a room in my basement so I put up a white board and list the various exercises and weights. After my workout I make quick notes as to which areas I need to up the weight next time. Very quick, very easy!

Rock climbing seems appealing, but, well that bend-your-fingernails-backwards factor kinda freaks me out!
I also LOVE softball but haven't had a chance to play since college! Any of you SLC folks have an inroad? Anyone? Buehler?
jansen, I remember playing dodgeball with the PE coaches in highschool. We called it "trench," and it involved the whole basketball court. It was a BLAST and the coaches were always very serious.
But no wrenches, lol. :-)

I have recently looked at several profiles and I am perplexed by something. When I look at their pictures, there is obvious transformation taking place - look thinner, more muscle definition etc. BUT when I look at their stats in terms of weight and BF % the profile actually suggests that these folks are LOSING muscle weight. ( I am referring to the section right above the weekly progress where tracker summarizes your results )
Does anyone have any thoughts as to why this is the way it is? It is making me think that bf% may be very unreliable/ subjective in terms of measuring overall improvement.
Whatchall think?
Lynn
Body for Life Forum Message by ocpanther65 (111 posts) at 08:07 AM
Hi Lynn,
BF measurements are hard to get right. There are only a handfull of methods that are consistent and accurate. Those incude underwater submersion, calipers, and some advanced sports medicine machines that we have no access to. There are some formulas out there also that can give you an idea but its hard to use these because everyone's body composition is different. I personally do not measure mine, I will after the 12 weeks but I go by looking at my before and after pics and how my clothes fit for know.
Body for Life Forum Message by ReenieC (108 posts) at 09:51 AM
I had my BF tested at my gym - it was a bioelectrical impedence test. The trainer who tested me explained the accuracy of the method they use, but there are instructions you have to follow 24 hours prior to the test to make sure its accurate. They pasted electrical current pads on my hands and feet and a current runs through your body and gives you a printout of your stats...it was pretty cool!! The current is supposed to read your fat%, the more fat your body has, the slower the current runs and the less fat you have, the quicker the current runs through your body. I hope I'm describing it correctly! When I go to the gym tonight I'll get the actual name and re-post it if anyone wants to know. The gym re-tests you for free every 3 months.

My best friend son (15) lifts weights at school! Last night, we noticed he has a bruise (dark)on the back of his neck! It is about 1/2 wide and about 3 inches long! He got it for squating about 225lbs! I told him, if he could'nt keep the bar off the back of his neck its to heavy for him! What's is everyone thought on this?
Body for Life Forum Message by georgiawendy (265 posts) at 07:01 PM
I agree. That's an injury waiting to happen. The bar should be placed lower on the trapezius muscles anyway, not on the neck. Hopefully they have a pad that Velcros on to the bar. If not, they could also buy something at Home Depot...I believe it's PVC pipe insulation...You can have it cut to about 16 inches long or so, and that will slip around the bar to be used a cushion. The nice Velcro cushion at my gym "walked" away, and they have been using this method as a replacement. It actually works pretty well.
Body for Life Forum Message by Larry (126 posts) at 07:17 PM
Wendy is correct. Check out this picture of the trapezius muscles for clarification:

And this EXRx article:
http://www.exrx.net/WeightExercises/Quadriceps/BBFullSquat.html
A good thing to remember is that good form alway comes first -- before any consideration is given to how much weight is lifted. It's not about how much you can lift, but how well you can lift it with good form and control. That may be a hard concept to get across to a young man -- and even older ones -- but it's sound advice.

The answer is depends. Thermogenics typically have a component that helps suppress appitite. If after 12 weeks, you still don't have effective control of your eating you could see some problems.
Bottom line, if you are unable to control how much you eat and when, then you are going to gain weight. This is why people say "pills don't work." Truth is, the "pill" worked just as it's supposed to. The pill taker just didn't make the needed mental changes.
Thermogenics are suppliments- not solutions. If you are mentally looking to thermogenics as a solution to your weight loss then I urge you not to use them. Step back and focus on learning the basics of the program. Become successful WITHOUT the "pills" first.
With all that said, I use Thermodynamix and love it. :)

I think it is so fascinating to hear all the different stereotypes. It's kinda sad, really. I have never thought all that about Oklahoma or South Africa! I do like hearing everyone's thoughts on this topic, though.
As for stereotypes, I've come across several in my old age ...(hehehe - i just turned 26!)
I'm from Utah, and when I lived in NYC it was interesting to hear what people thought. A lot of people think that all Utahns are Mormons. Actually, we have people of all faiths here, and I think less that 50% or the state is LDS. (Technically, we're named The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints..."Mormon" is just a nickname.) Another sterotype I get is when people hear I am LDS, they'll ask how many wives my dad has, and they think that Mormons are poylgamists. (It is totally not true - if you are a polygamist, you can't be a member of the Church.) Or they think we believe all sorts of crazy things! But it makes afor a good discussion!
It is good to ask questions! It helps us all get out of the dark. This is why education is so important, I think. I just love to learn about other cultures, religions, countries...I wish i could afford to travel more just for that reason...(So far I 've been to much of the US, Mexico, and my favorite - Guatemala!!!)
Body for Life Forum Message by Shoe (20 posts) at 09:39 AM
ashtrash, I have to admit that I too think "Mormon!" when I hear Utah. But most of my other stereotypical ideas about LDS folks are pretty positive: I think they're incredibly supportive of one another in their communities, very diligent, hard-working, and proud of their history. I grew up in the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints (you know, we went one way after Joseph was killed and Brigham took the others another way), and everyone always assumes I'm LDS. I take it as a compliment!
Megan
Body for Life Forum Message by ashtrash (330 posts) at 04:01 PM
Hi Megan!
That's really nice of you to say! Hopefully we live up to your compliments! I think pretty much everyone associates Utah and Mormons, which is totally cool.(I just am sensitive to people who aren't Mormon that live here and hope they don't get offended, since it's their state too...)
I learned a lot about your Church in a World religion class at BYU. It is really interesting to study the differences...

My kids drink water and milk. They drink about 3 of those 24oz sport bottles full of water each day and have milk with dinner. We do give them a Capri Sun in their school lunches, but that is the only juice they have. Even when they were little, we would water down their apple or grape juice with 1/2 water.
They do not drink soda....ever. And their teeth thank us. No cavities and the dentist says their teeth look great. My brother-in-law and sister-in-law are dentists and are currently in periodontal school. They have told us the horror stories soda causes (even the sugar free stuff). I've also heard it from my dentist and have experienced about $12,000 of dental work, thanks to diet soda.
Our kids will ask for some of our protein shakes, but I am like Moggie...I am nervous about giving them all that extra protein. They get smoothies made with soy milk and frozen fruit instead.
The only drinks we have in our household are water, skim milk, the Capri Sun juice pouches, Crystal Light for me, and low sugar OJ. My kids will chose water over most drinks, even when at a birthday party. I hope that it will stick with them, even as they get older. I see kids drinking soda as young as 2 and I shudder. When I was a waitress, parents would give me sippy cups for their toddlers and ask me to fill it up with diet soda....ugh!
I think soda is one of the reasons why we have such a problem with obesity in children. It's certainly not the only contributing factor, but it is a huge one. Empty calories that the kids aren't burning off due to lack of physical activity. Some of my kids' friends are so overweight, it makes me sad. Our kids watch an average of 1 hour of television....a WEEK. And they play video games about 2 hours a week. We encourage lots of physical play over sitting in front of the televsion or video games. Good thing as my son has a predisposition to be a big kid. Even with eating right, monitoring his calories, and keeping him active, he weighs in at around 100lbs at 9 years old.

Megan is 14 months old, and she's the same way, she will be happy drinking her milk, but as soon as she sees dh or me drinking something, she wants ours instead! I usually give her a little bit, but try to keep it to a minimum.
Her favorite is diet rootbeer. I only get it once in a while when we go to Cracker Barrel, and the minute it's on the table she starts getting upset if she doesn't get some! she's got amazing memory already...
Body for Life Forum Message by chuckdiesel99 (706 posts) at 09:41 AM
I dont see the problem with letting your childern sip on your protein drinks. Children need more protein than adults do in g/lb.
Milk is full of protein (casein and whey) and you seem to have no problems letting them drink that. A sip or two is not going to hurt anyone, it might even help. Just dont whip up an entire shake for them.
Body for Life Forum Message by georgiawendy (265 posts) at 09:49 AM
My girls are five, and I'm still watering down their apple juice! LOL They drink a lot of water. They like to carry around a water bottle like me. At school they have milk, but they don't like it very much, so I am now letting them take water bottles to school.
Since moving to GA, I have seen parents giving babies sweet tea in their bottles! Unbelievable. And they wonder why the South has a big obesity problem.

I'm not concerned about giving them sips of my Myoplex Lite shakes either. Their diet is plenty high in carbs. They could use a little extra protein.

I'm curious if and how much you all pay for childcare at your gym, or is it included in your membership? Mine charges $2.00 a hour for one child and $3.50 for two children.
Body for Life Forum Message by Mickymacb (371 posts) at 08:31 AM
our gym has a childcare area where you watch your own kids, so it's free. There's a large play area with a see-through fence netting around it, tons of toys and a t.v. playing cartoon network. Then all the cardio equipment surrounds it, so you can watch your child.

Powerhouse Fitness in my town is going down the drain. They are dropping the Powerhouse affiliation to save money, which is a definite red flag to me. I did not realize it was $8000 a year to use the "name." The equipment is wearing out, it's dirty, the staff is unhappy, and the owner doesn't seem to care that much about any of it. I'm outta there!!

Just as a side note, that actually happened at another gym in this area. I'm not sure about other states, but here in GA, a gym can literally close its doors, and you are SOL even if you just bought a year's membership the day before. Read the fine print on your contract.

I just switched from this super posh gym to a 24hr Fitness. 24hr lets you go month to month which I like since I travel for work. They also have a child care facility that is supervised. Overall the gym isn't the best I've been to, but it suits my needs and doesn't seem to be too much of a gawk fest :-)
Body for Life Forum Message by Megan'sMom (223 posts) at 04:49 PM
I belong to Bally's and it's $1 an hour (per kid I think), max of 2 hours. It's supervised but they only allow 2 kids under the age of 2 at a time, so it forces me to plan ahead and make my reservations 5 days in advance.
I just went to our rec center last week, cause I couldn't reschedule my time at the nursery like I needed to and they were $2 an hour and waaaaaaaay nicer nursery, but I had to pay $5 for me to work out . . . just can't do that everyday.

I go to the ymca and childcare at my facility is included with a full membership, but when I used the ymca in Austin, I had to pay $3 a day for 2 kids (I think it was $2 for the first one and $1 for each additional). The "Kids' Corner" room and staff at my facility is far superior to the one I had to pay extra for in Austin, so go figure.

I was wondering what everyones Christmas/Holiday traditions were? My family has one in particular that we do, just me, my husband and two daughters. Since my family is divorced (parents) and my husbands family is now in California and Florida, we have to spread our Christams out pretty thin over a couple of weeks. One thing we do just the four of ourselves every year for the past 17 years is...on Christmas eve, we go to the Capitol to see the tree. Not the National Christmas tree, but the one on the Capitol lawn. It is usually very quiet and peaceful there and it makes me think how wonderful it is that we can live in a country that enables us to have our individual beliefs and celebrate them openly. It really is quite a beautiful sight. I have posted last years photo on my profile side view. Happy Holidays!
Body for Life Forum Message by Mickymacb (371 posts) at 08:38 AM
that's a great tradition! :)
On Christmas Eve, I make my husband's favorite lasagna, we watch It's a Wonderful Life while laying next to the Christmas tree. Then we fall asleep under the tree.
We also go walk around downtown Boise though the 8th Street Marketplace and enjoy all the Christmas displays.

My family has a few traditions (good and bad).
Good-My whole family gets together Christmas morning, open gifts and my Mom always makes us MALASADAS. OMG-they are sooo good and we only get um once a year.
I also get my son a special ornament each year symbolizing whats going on at the time. (This way he'll have some ornaments when he moves out too).
We choose a child from the Angel Tree and get them whatever is on their wish list.
As for one tradition I wish we could stop-all the dang fighting that happens EVERY time my family gets together. (Heck..I might not know how to act if we had a peaceful celebration! hehe)

That tradition is now defunct because my mom aunt and grandma cant stay awake, and all of us "kids" have little ones.
Time to start some new traditions, I guess....

When my husband was a child, he and his sister and their cousins dressed up and acted out the Christmas story. His grandmother took pictures during the play and created a memory book with the words of the Christmas story alongside the pictures.
Now every year the memory book travels to wherever we are on Christmas and is read aloud. Everyone enjoys seeing the pictures, and even my girls who are now five years old, are getting a big kick out of seeing daddy all dressed up as a wise man as well as learning the true meaning of Christmas.

We get together at my in-laws and eat goodies then do the "box".
The box is pulled by the kindergarten and pre-school kids into the living room. (They are the reindeer) It looks like a huge wrapped present with a hole cut out of the top. There are all these strings attached to presents in the box and everyone draws a number. Then we do a white elephant thing about stealing and barganining after drawing a present.
It is so much fun and there is always silly string and whoopy cushions in it, etc. It's a blast.
It's what I look forward to everytime Dec. rolls around.
Also, all the grandkids always act out the Christmas story and grandpa always reads it from Luke 2.

I am trying to get this to catch on with everyone in my family and friend circle. So if you are looking for a new tradition that is one to consider. A Christmas Story is my favourite.
Our traditions are somewhat trashy so don't pass judgement LOL. This started a few years ago. After we open the presents my dad makes what we call "Denver" sandwiches. Don't know if anyone has heard of them but its pretty basic. Its an omlette with ham, onions & cheese eaten on toasted rye bread (I dip mine in ketchup). The kids play and the adults start playing cards as in gambling for some pretty good money. Before noon the cocktail hour has begun so the drinking & gambling takes up most of the day. Then break time, then turkey time, then the drinking & gambling again. So how's that for tradition? Nothing like winning a family member's money huh? We've had some pretty good times I tell ya!!!!!! It might sound kind of wild but actually its pretty tame albeit tacky LOL.

A few days before Christmas, we make cookies for Santa. On Christmas Eve, I make a gingerbread house with my girls. Then we go skating downtown at an outdoor rink with Christmas lights every where! (Courtney, I LOVE your idea, and will definitely do that this year when we are downtown for skating!) When we get home, we open one gift which is ALWAYS new pajamas so they're in nice pjs for the pics in the morning!
We write a letter to Santa, and leave him some cookies and milk. We leave a carrot for Rudolph! Grandpa reads Twas the Night Before Christmas...
I also buy them an ornament every year that also says something about what they're interested in that particular year - - this year is Dora the Explorer! On Christmas morning, we drink eggnog while we open our presents. For breakfast, we eat the Wife Saver breakfast! My husband's family has brought in a tradition to our Christmas dinner - - we each get one of those crackers that is filled with good wishes, a little gift, and the silly paper hat!
This year, I'm starting a new tradition now that my oldest daughter is old enough. She and I are going to The Nutcracker ballet! I'm just so excited to get dressed-up, and have a date with her!

We have the Italian 7 fish dinner on christmas eve and watch a christmas story all day. And every yr my mother buys us socks just so we can throw them over our shoulders like in the movie!

We always have a "Cookie Day" where my mom and I (the resident cooks of the family) make about 12 different kinds of cookies to eat thru Christmas and New's Years. Um, yeah, that's already planned as my freeday, for obvious reasons - I LOVE cookie dough!! I mean, c'mon, i have to make sure it tastes good, right?!? Plus, we give them away to neighbors and friends, too.
On Christmas Eve, we have a big fancy Turkey dinner (pretty much like Thanksgiving all over again) and then we celebrate my sister Elisa's birthday (she always gets a lot of presents - people feel sorry for her that her birthday is Christmas Eve!) and then we do a more spiritual Christmas party, ie read the scriptures, that kind of thing. (we are starting to have a new tradition of having a "fun" Christmas Eve party on the 23rd...there just isn't time on the 24th with the dinner, birthday, spiritual part...)
Oh, and this year we are going to Vegas to watch BYU in the Las Vegas bowl. I can't wait! Go Cougs!!
Then on Christmas Day, we wake up about 9am and open a few presents. Then, we all open a "special" present...before "we go make breakfast"...every year we each get our own box of breakfast cereal, some crazy kind we never would normally eat! (Mine is usually Cinnamon Toast Cruch, or Waffle Crisp) I mean, who wants to cook on Christmas morning? We have done this tradition every sice I can remember. I guess it sounds weird now, but when we were kids it was really pretty special - we didn't have very much money, so to have our very own box or SUGAR cereal was a miracle! It's just fun! And then we have leftovers from the day before and sit and play games all day. It's so fun!

Sounds like a very nice tradition. The pic of the tree and capitol are beautiful!
I am bound and determined to make a beautiful gingerbread house this year with my kids! (Last year I used a kit....just not the same.)
When I was growing up, I used to play Christmas songs on the piano all night on Christmas Eve. I sure do miss that!
I also like opening presents on Christmas Eve instead of Christmas Day. There just seems to be something more magical on Christmas Eve than Christmas Day, maybe because there have always been much better memories then for me.

Well, we attended the graduation luncheon and Ray was very surprised. He looked really sharp in his uniform. He is also glad it is over and now he can get back to a more regular life. We took 2 - 3 picturs so hopefully mellie will will post them soon. And, they are tame photos as when we are in uniform, there cannot be any PDA, or very minimal PDA. PDA is "public display of affection" and the military considers that to be disrespectful to the military image, especially when in a academy setting such as what today was in. Well, we left Ray to go off and march around in the cold in a formal military parade and then to participate in retreat, the lowering and paying of respects to the flag.

My daughter Onica Danielle! After 14 years of marriage, Janice and I finally arrived back on the same page in regards to children. I love Janice and Onica so much!!
When I met Janice in 1987, we knew that was it and that we were meant to be together. Her son was 12 years old and neither Jan nor I wanted any more children. Her son has Muscular Dystrophy and although he is not yet in a wheel chair, Jan is a carrier and any children could either have the disease or be a carrier. So, since we were into ourselves and Kenny at that time, and I felt guilty making Jan go through childbirth, etc. all over again with a 15 yr old son, we decided against kids, and a few years later, I made sure of it by visiting the cotor and his knife. Well, 3 years later I changed my mind and Jan told me tough. Our friends told us to volunteer at the local Children's Hospital to get "it" out of my system. But, being in the pediatric subacute center and Jan being in the newborn nursery for a year, both of us just solidifed our positions. I also volunteered with the Big Brother Big Sister Program and guess what? It did the same thing. I eventually gave up asking (bugging?) and resigned myself to lying in the bed I helped make. However, in 2001, my sister had her 1st child at age 36, and Jan's boss had her 3rd at age 39, and Jan's biological clock started ticking, although she did not tell me immediately. Eventually, the topic came up again and when Jan told me she now wanted kids, I was on the phone with the doctor before she finished her sentence to get my little procedure from 9 years earlier undone. 2 years later, after 5 failed attempts of infertility treatments, the doctor decided the only way this would work for us if he did a test tube baby. So, I had to visit a urologist with a BIG needle, Jan had to undergo egg harvesting, and lo & behold, the doctor was successful in the test tube, implanted Onica on Oct 4, 2002, confirmed the pregnancy on Oct 25, and 9 months later we had a healthy, MD clear, baby girl. Jan was 47 with a 28 tear old son. It just makes me cry to think about this, and the medical, includes genetic, advances that have been made to allow parents to have kids who otherwise cannot have any. Onica is a dream come true, and we are amazed everyday. Janice gave me our daughter, and that is the most cherished gift I have ever received.

Onica is such a beautiful name! Where did you get it?
My daughter Reagan is definately ours! I am more and more amazed every day. My hubby and I still (she is 16 mos old) look at each other and say, "that's a PERSON over there." Bringing a little person into the world and watching her grow is SUCH a miracle and a blessing!

I may be a little over-sensitive but I have tears running down my face. That's an amazing story. Daughters are amazing. My daughter Jess is just like me only 100 times better (at least). She's a distillation of all I like about myself. She doesn't have any of my flaws. I'm in awe of her most of the time.
I did get another amazing gift recently.
My old running shoes were flapping with every step. They looked bad and smelled worse. It probably would have been safer to run barefoot. Anyway, my boyfriend has been very encouraging with the BFL programme. It's such a fine line us girls make you guys take. I know I'm fat and out of shape, I want to be encouraged but I don't want HIM to say I'm fat. LOL. So he noticed my dangerous shoes and offers to buy me a new pair. I have this proud, stubborn streak so I was like "no, I like these ones, they're comfy, I'm used to them. . ." blah blah.
He says he really wants me to have some new shoes.
I was embarrassed that I couldn't afford to buy some new ones myself so I kept saying there was still some life in the old ones. In the meantime, every time I went for a run I'd come back with muddy socks because that's the kind of state my shoes were in. If he commented, I cracked jokes about my shoes being "religious" cuz they were holy ("holey").
Eventually, over a coffee, he said, "I really want to buy you some new shoes. I want to do this for you."
So we went to the shop, tried on a few pairs and that was it! I accepted his gift for what it was: a gesture of love. Now I look rather good when I run (well I keep telling myself this). The only problem now is I'm a little over protective of them. LOL. I still wrap them in the paper they came in. . .
Thanks for your story. I'm going to turn the computer off and give Jess a cuddle.

It is kind of funny. Jan's mother's name was Veronica. We wanted to name Onica "Sarah Danielle" but my sister had just named her 2nd baby Sarah. We did not want the cousins to have the same name so we opted for Veronica Danielle. But, we were reading baby name books and one of them said to watch out for nicknames and initials. Guess what? We decided ODK was better than VDK...VD. Who wants to have VD? :) Silly, I know.....but we love her so much. And yes, bringing a person into the world is amiracle and a blessing. I can say for sure now my opinion of abortion ahs changed after seeing that little white dot on the ultrasound flashing off & on. My God, that was my child. That was life. I loved going to the ultrasound appointments every 2 weeks for the 1st 3 months (high risk pregnancy given her age) and I hated to stop having them so often after that 1st trimester.
Persephone, we have something in common. Our families are from Michigan. My cousins are from Port Huron, Flint, and Detroit. That is a nice story about the shoes. The little things we do for each other are pretty much what truly makes us complete and whole, isn't it?
The ticking is the clock??? We tried again with a frozen embryo in August 2004 but were unsuccessful and that was devastating. We are now considering adoption, although we have discussed pregancy again. That discussion continues.......

That is so original and cool. I thought I was being original.... naming my daughter after a character in "King Lear" ever since High school I have said I would name my first daughter Regan. Hubby wanted to change the spelling since he was a big fan of Ronald. But now my pediatrician says he has several patients named Regan/Reagan. Oh, ,Well. Still a good Irish name. :) Kelli

Hi,
Quick question to anyone in/near Orlando Fl:
*How should I pack to dress the kids?
We are taking them on a surprise trip to Disney on Wed...
Is it too cool out for shorts? How about swimming? What about night time?
We are coming from PA where it is hovering around 23 degrees during the day...
TIA
Denise

I just came back from there a few days ago. I packed too many shorts and not enough jeans. I wish I would have packed more long sleeved shirts, too (not sweatshirts, that would have been too heavy). I also wish I would have brought a light jacket.
One day the breeze felt kind of cool. It just wasn't as warm as I had expected. But I am kind of cold natured anyhow. After coming from Cleveland, I thought I would be burning up, but that wasn't the case.
Hope this helps. Maybe someone who actually lives in the area can help more. :)
Have fun on your vacation!

Not wanting to beat a dead horse, but since I was swamped at work the past few days, I have been unable to get a post out here with some questions I have. Forgive me for being slow at responding in detail, and forgive me for being dense.
1) A lot of the comments were about using the magnifying glass to see what someone had posted. I do not truly understand how this pertains to me in particular, as one magnifying comment was directed to me, in my mind. I did a quick analysis when I had 103 posts and found the following: Of my 103 posts, and using my own categorization, I have posted on the following topics in the percentage shown:
Chat 12%
Cruise 3%
Equipment 1%
Exercise 11%
Expo 4%
Risqué 43%
Support 27%
Total 100%
Using the BFL categories, I have posted in the following categories in the percentage shown:
Beginner 1%
Equipment 1%
Exercise 11%
OT 68%
Site 1%
Support 18%
Total: 100%
The majority of threads I find interesting or that I can contribute to are in the OT category. Also, it appears most posts are made in the OT area. As for my categorization, the percentage of posts in what I would consider risqué are right in line with my every day personality: a flirtatious guy who is all bark and no bite, meaning I am all talk. Is there anything wrong with this? And, my wife is very aware of everything I do and say. One of her favorite stories about me is telling people I was voted "the pledge most likely to seduce an active member" when I was pledging a co-ed business fraternity at UNM back in 1990. She knows I am all talk.
2) Also, the people mentioning the other sites in the other posts, alt.com and adultfriendfinders.com, have completely missed the boat on some of the threads that people are objecting to. The people that started the threads and those that responded were never serious about looking for people to hook up with or to get together with. The threads were all in fun, giving folks who have never met and are anonymous in cyberspace, a chance to flirt with each other. Is it possible there are people out there who truly believed mellie, 69, amodelawyer, and kmachate were actually trying to connect with each other? The written word on the Internet is really hard to decide what is in jest and what is serious so I bet this was the case, that people did think they were serious. This was a great example of not taking into consideration the audience and potential problems that could occur if a post was misunderstood.
3) As for the PM's, this whole crossing the line thread could have been avoided had a PM been sent to the folks that are believed to be responsible for dragging this site across a line. If I received a PM asking me for a naked picture or being told I am hot or whatever, and I did not like it nor ask for a comment or request like that, I have every right to speak up. I do not believe there is a right to privacy on the Internet and what we type now and post here, on our websites, on our blogs, etc. is forever in the public domain. I could be wrong on this but based on numerous articles and reports I have read over the years in the media, I think I am not far off the mark here. Having said that, disgusting behavior and harrasement is in the eye of the beholder. At work, if I think something is harrassment and someone else does not, guess what? It is harrassment. I would think the same thing applies here. And, I firmly believe in a PM should stay a PM, unless a person receiving the PM considers it harrassment. At that point, it ceases to be private because what if the harrassment is going on elsewhere with other people? I would want to be notified.
In this case, the person requesting the naked pic should have been exposed. I am guessing but I bet it was amodellawyer. I also believe he should not have asked for a naked pic from someone who had not responded to his post. He missed his audience, and his audience being those who were "playing" along with him. As another example of this, what if person receives a PM they do not like, but don't tell anyone about it? However, what if the sender is also sending the same type of PMs to other folks but they also do the same, and not say anything. All of a sudden, the PM sender goes off the deep end and hurts or kills a recipient. Then, we all sit back saying we should have done something because it had happened to me. I know this is an extreme example but this is where I believe a PM should be made public and again, that is when a PM is considered to be harrassment or in poor taste.
4) I know mellie personally. She is hardworking. She is committed to her family. She is dedicated to BFL and is a tremendous support to us here in NM. She is just like me, a little risque, and likes to flirt. As for me, it helps me keep the age thing at bay and maybe the same for her. Again, we should have known our audience. I just met agent69 online last week and from our pms and emails back & forth, I can tell she is a nice person also, and very supportive of BFL. mellie and agent69 are nothing like they are being made out to be.
5) I am having a hard time seeing the difference between having raygeo pose with a myoplex box, having the myoplex box removed and a elephant thinggee put there instead, and having a calendar of naked women. To me, they are all in the same vein and why is one worse than the other?
6) If the posts in question were taking over the site and were always in the top of all posts and were driving folks away, that plays into human nature. People will peruse something, quickly decide if it is worth their time, and move on, probably taking all of 60 seconds. What it sounds like was going on here was that people were seeing the top posts and then deciding all the posts were like that. They deprived themselves of the other topics that were here. They deprived themselves of helping others or receiving help.
7) As for people staying away from the chat rooms becaus ethey think it is one big orgy going on, they are missing out on some great conversations. I have chatted with jamber, 4 achange, glennH(?), leogirl, and kmachate. Last night was the first time sex had been brought up and it was in regards to piercings and why people get them, about kids, etc. We talk about religion, the military, our kids, finances, school, music, our jobs, desires, etc. So, come on out and chat sometime.
8) As for the self-removed members, untill they say they removed themselves because of the posts all we can do is surmise they left because of the posts. We do not know for sure. And, if that is the reason, then they should request to make a change. I liken this to living in a neighborhood, the gangs move in, and the good people move out. It is work to keep something nice and if a change is occuring I do not like, I speak up and say something. Now, that is one good thing about getting older. I am more often than not to now start out slowly and softly stating my opinion vs. yelling it out like I used to do all the time.
I know this a long post, but as I said, I have some questions and confusion and I am hoping someone will be able to answer them for me, explaining without getting upset. I am the first to admit that sometimes I am really slow at understanding things.

Hi, I have a question that was posed to me by a friend. He ran on the treadmill for 5 minutes at a normal pace, then hopped off the treadmill, lifted weights for his normal set of weight training exercises, and then back on the treadmill for 5 minutes, and so on, for a total of 30 minutes of running, and a total of 90 minutes of exercise. We are curious how this compares to continuous running vs. dispersed throughout the 90 minutes? He says he was able to run at a faster pace for each of the six 5-minute treadmill sessions than if he ran 30 minutes continuous. Thanks for the thoughts on this.

Body for Life Forum Message by tigermuscle (289 posts) at 11:34 AM
I never heard of someone doing it to simply run at a faster pace. I know that its a common thing to do 1 min of carido to keep the heart rate up between sets..in fact Im doing that now on shoulder day. Its a good way to shakeup your workouts, thats for sure!
Body for Life Forum Message by amkazen (123 posts) at 12:01 PM
thanks for the reply. He is not following BFL, by the way, and he was doing this as a way to shake up his workout. He and I are curious if the cardio benefits are the same or different by breaking up his 30 minutes of cardio into the 6 5-minute intervals. His heart rate for sure never dropped to a resting level, nor the regular level it would be at when doing the weight training exercises sperate from the cardio. We are thinking this is a good way to do cardio, not the only way, but just a different way and that the benefits would be the same if ot better.
Body for Life Forum Message by chuckdiesel99 (706 posts) at 01:59 PM
My thoughts for what they are worth...
In a best case senario cardio would be done 24 hours apart from weight lifting.
In a okay case senario, cardio would be done after weight lifting only. Never do a full cardio session before lifting because you will not have the energy needed to lift your best
When you are finished lifting weights your body's glycogen stores are about empty. If you were to hop on the treadmill for a full routine (esp HIIT) you would be putting your hard earned muscle at risk. You are in a catabolic state at this time and you should be concerned with getting a meal in you asap. If you have to do cardio after lifting, do it at 65% max heart rate for 20min or so to minimize muscle loss.

Is he a runner? I mean a serious runner. I don't think he's going to be gaining any lean mass with this method, but it sound like a heck of a workout for cutting IMO.
Body for Life Forum Message by ocpanther65 (111 posts) at 03:49 PM
It would depend on his goals. If he wants to put on lean muscle mass then I agree with Chuck, he is probably hindering his efforts. If he wants to be an endurance runner and do marathons and such then more power to him.
Body for Life Forum Message by amkazen (123 posts) at 04:49 PM
No, he is not a serious runner and his interest is mainly in getting his weight down. The catabolic state and glycogen is interesting info. As he is a very analytical person, I know he will look into that aspect a lot more. Thanks!

I'm a runner....and don't know too much about weight lifting...
His workout is awesome from a runner;s standpoint for 2 reasons: One, it it keeping his HR up during his weightlifting workout, therefore burning more calories. Running mags advise runners to do this during weight training if trying to lose weight. Secondly, he is essentially doing an aerobic interval workout with "active recovery"... this means that while he is recovering from a hard run effort he is still working out in an alternative way. What he is doing is awesome for a 5k runner. If her runs 5ks he will probably see a great improvement in his times.
This is a great workout if he is training for any race long distance.
From another point of view, if he doesnt want to run races, this is still a great wayt to burn more calories during his weight training workout.... when I studied for my group excersise instructor exam they advised us that interval training such as this allows a person to burn a lot more calories than they would during a steady state run.
That's what I know/I hope you have been enlightened by my post. HA. :)Kelli

I think this is a standard work out (not unusual) supplied by trainers. I got something just like this when I joined my gym. The plan I was given was for fat loss and he had me do circuit weight training on machines and after every machine I had to RUN to a cardio machine and do 5 mins and then RUN to another weight machine/station. It was 5 mins of cardio between every station and on to a different cardio machine each time.

I think the important thing is to do as much as you can and be the best that you can. It is hard not to mess up when you are in a funk like this - just don't give up! By throwing caution to the wind with an "I'll start again after the new year" attitude, you can throw away all that hard work you've done to this point. Just try to maintain as much as possible if you aren't ready to hit it hard yet, but do something! Get to the gym and those endorphins will help!

As a fellow night owl, I have this same problem. I found that rather than focusing on waking up, I've focused on getting into bed earlier. So if waking up at 6 seems like an unrealistic goal, what about getting yourself into bed by 10pm? After a week of that, morning exercise might not seem quite as awful.. Good luck!!
Body for Life Forum Message by blemt (110 posts) at 08:13 AM
I'm a big advocate of doing cardio in the morning. I'm a big advocate of doing all my workouts in the morning.
I'm a bigger advocate of actually doing workouts. :) If you need to do your workout at a different time, do so. For cardio in particular, just make sure that you are 3 hours away from your last meal.
People worry about making spectacular progress if they change things. If you are making no progress at all, you can't make spectacular progress.
So best to start actually making progress. :) Do what it takes to succeede. If you find a time to workout that works- DO IT. Period. :)
Body for Life Forum Message by joninstpete (124 posts) at 09:40 AM
Think of it this way, you have a goal, right? Something you want to do, who great would it feel to know each day that you hit a goal? Just by knowing that you awoke to work out. What better way to satrt the day by hitting a goal each day just by getting up a lil early
Body for Life Forum Message by Mellie (395 posts) at 10:01 AM
Where there's a will there's a way! The only time I have that I can work out is 4:45 in the morning! I need to be done by 5:45 to get myself and twin girls ready for the day...then I have a 45 minute drive to take them to school and get to work...So, I work out in my garage and you wann talk about COLD! Dang! So I went to Costco and got a really awesome space heater for $60 and put it on a timer...it goes on 45 minutes before I even hit that puppy! Its perfect, because when I work out I get HOT cuz Im working so hard so the cooler air is actually good!
Monitors...totally, thats what you need for piece of mind and they are not expensive!
Good Luck!

I can't either, I sleep too late, and to do cardio on an empty stomach at 10 am and then wait an hr after to eat for the fat burning to continue, I only get 4 meals in a day, so I workout when I get up after I eat a little something, drink my coffee and stretch out my back, then I'm really ready for a good workout!

Right now here is my plan. LOL I call this warm-up phase lmao.
Exercise for next week and 1/2:
2 cardio sessions 30 min HR at 170
Early AM Session:
Only water on Empty Stomach.
This one is jogging. (Reason for jogging is to help shape my butt and thigh areas.)
PM Session:
Stair Master for 30 min at high level. (once again good for the butt!)
Diet:
Don't eat crap diet LOL
Meal 1: Oatmeal Pancake (Just Oatmeal & egg whites blended together) w/ 1tbs of Nat'l PB and a little SF syrup. YUM this is one of my fave. meals!
Meal 2:A lean protein, brown rice, Green veggie (my fave. asparagus)
Meal 3: A lean protein, Green Veggie, 1 tbs Nat'l PB
Meal 4: Myoplex Lite 1 apple
Meal 5: same as meal 3
Meal 6: whey protein shake with water.
I hope my friend never sees that I have revealed the diet LOL to answer that question Flower yes it is. Funny because it is so simple but yes it is regard as a secret. Though the diet changes throughout for your personal development.
My cheat days are to be determined after the Holidays because right now I have 3 because I have a party/event to go to tomorrow night. And I am allowing myself Christmas Eve & Day for me to be off as well. Once January rolls around something tells me Cheat days will be very far and few between. But I love it because I can be anti-social too. No parties and all that jazz. ;-)

how much oatmeal to how much eggs?
Body for Life Forum Message by T~N~T (782 posts) at 02:12 PM
That depends on your bodies needs. A man is going to eat a heck of a lot more protein and carbs than a female. And maybe add more into more meals to support a males muscle growth. Also depends on activity and how much you are lifting. So that is a whole other ball of wax. This is why I did not put up ratio's because this is what is individualized for my body type and for a 5'4 woman. Hope that helps some. ;-) Take care.

I just recently had a strange discussion with a friend of mine. She said that a few of her nutritionist friends (who are employed as such) said that BFL wreaks havok on your kidneys. I didn't understand what she meant so when I asked her she said something like it is hard on your kidneys to have an equal balance of carb and protein. They would recommend a slightly higher carb (like 60/40) not 50/50.
Anyone else heard this same arguement? Anyone have any thoughts?
Body for Life Forum Message by ROxYgIRL75 (10 posts) at 01:28 AM
oops sorry about that..
Body for Life Forum Message by nutz (102 posts) at 06:12 AM
Okay. Let's look at this. According to the really smart people who came up with our nutritional needs 9read the cereal box), a 60 carb/30 fat/10 protein (in % calories) is recommended. Given that Type II diabetes is the number one medical expense in this country (my overweight dad just got diagnosed), I put little stock in what "nutritionists" recommend.
But, I'd have to agree with chuckD in that folks like us should be more in tune with sports nutrition than couch potato nutrition.
If you are worried about kidney health, drink 12 cups of water a day and take a potassium supplement.
Body for Life Forum Message by nutz (102 posts) at 06:19 AM
BTW. Bodybuilders working on gaining mass often consume a diet composed of 50% carb calories. But, keep in mind that hardcore bodybuilders use high volume, high intensity training methods that require lots of energy. Plus, they are not too concerned about gaining some fat while bulking up.
All in all, I'm more concerned about diabetes than kidney problems.
Body for Life Forum Message by chuckdiesel99 (706 posts) at 08:21 AM
Well said nutz. Im currently eating around 245g protein 286g of carbs and 57g of fat in a day. This comes out to a 40/40/20 ratio if you dont factor fiber in your calories. Keep in mind that im trying to put on some muscle/weight while keeping my bodyfat as low as possible. This is a very balanced diet in my opinion.
Body for Life Forum Message by Mickymacb (371 posts) at 08:27 AM
I can tell you thatas far as kidney STONES go, atkins is horrid. I have oxalate stones, and eating lots of berries, nuts, spinach, asparagus, etc. led to me having to get an outpatient procedure to break up my stones.
With BFL I have had NO problems with stones, partly because of drinking 100 oz of water a day. There are lots of healty proteins to eat on BFL.

Found a good article. http://www.news.harvard.edu/gazette/2003/03.13/09-kidney.html
"While the researchers observed that protein consumption had an adverse impact on women with mild kidney problems, the same did not hold true for women with normal kidney function. "There are theoretical reasons to believe high-protein diets may be harmful to the kidney," Knight said. "However, we observed no adverse effect of higher protein intake in women with normal kidney function.""

That's interesting. I've had kidney problems all my life . . . my bladder/kidney infections than anyone should ever have to indure, constant meds and for the past few years (perhaps about the first time I tried BFL) I haven't had any problems, including when I was pregnant - which I was afraid of.

Since I started counting grams and calories I have equal carbs and protein and based on how I've read the program, that is what we are supposed to be doing. I found that eyeballing portions didn't really work for me because I lost NO weight. But if it works for you, by all means do it. Counting works for me and I lose more weight and body fat when my carbs and protein are balanced. And I believe my kidneys are working fine.

Monday evening Julie called me, we spoke a good 20 minutes, She is every bit of the angel I pictured her to be.
Julie said she had a bad weekend , stress is setting in, it's a very difficult time for her. The waiting, the not knowing when, is more then I know I could handle. But Julie is so strong, and her faith is keeping her together.
Julie's hope is to be home for Christmas, although it seems that is not going to happen this year lets all pray that Julie gets her new lungs very very soon and she can at least have the stress off her shoulders and wake up Christmas morning with a feeling of The Greatest Gift from God that she is on her road to recovery .
All my love and prayers and good wishes go out to Julie this Holiday season
Please keep her in your mind , your heart and your prayers.
Love, GET*HER*DONE Linda

Tiger.... all right, I'm a gonna-do, just don't know when I'm gonna do it. Mainly because I know NOTHING about it! Like you, I think that actually registering for one would be enough motivation for me to do what I need to do. What I REALLY wanna do is a MS Fitness comp. someday- I was a dance major in college and really miss performing. I would love to do that routine.... even if I didnt do well in the overall competition. :)

I am curious to see what peoples long and short term goals are with the BFL program. This could turn out to be a very inspiring thread. I started my 5th challenge in 6 yrs in November and at first I wasn't sure of what my gains would be like because I never got the program right before. I set somewhat reasonable goals. Well I have been seeing some great results thus far so I raised the bar. My short term goals are to get a six pack (will settle for four:) and to max out at 320 bench (305 was my best ever. My long term goal is to get under 10% BF and stay there. Anyone else?
Body for Life Forum Message by ocpanther65 (111 posts) at 04:07 PM
hmm, I guess the holidays have gotten the best of us. noone has goals.

I have goals!!! I have goals! I want to get my body fat down to under 20% and really strengthen my legs. but my biggest goal is to get my husband to join me in this quest.
Body for Life Forum Message by anavywife (160 posts) at 04:21 PM
I have goals and never seem to get to the finishing line! I set a goal weight for myself at 136 and if you look at my profile I continually fluctuate around 137-139! I have been so frustrated here lately that I have decided I will just continue to workout hard and eat right and if I make it to the goal then I will be happy, but I find when I make goals and dont reach them (especially when they are reasonable goals)I throw myself waaaaayyyy off track because of how hard I am on myself.
I also want to have some kind of abs... heck just somehting besides flab on my stomach would be nice and wear a bikini without wanting to hide.:)
Anyhow, for now, my goal is to just make it through the holidays and maintain my current level of health (Im going home for the holidays for almost 2weeks this is a challenge all in itself!!)
Merry Christmas,
Crystal

What an ironic thread for me. This time last year I was contemplating starting BFL. On Jan. 10 I started with very high expectations & some good solid goals. I REALLY DID expect to have the same results as those advertised for BFL as in averismommy. I really did not have all that much to loose, I was focused, determined and I worked hard. In 12 weeks I did not reach those goals. Why didn't I? Who knows - genetics? I didn't think it was because I wasn't focused or determined, I just don't know but I was okay with that because I knew it would eventually come. Because of those results the next 12 weeks (C2) I just became more determined & focused and worked even harder. Did not really reach the goals I had set with C2 nor did I with C3. I did 4 challenges back to back and am in C5 but following a different lifting program.
So here I am sitting looking at this damn question!!!!! What are my goals? Well simply just to get in the same mind frame as I was this time last year with the focus & determination with the eating. I am much stronger & fitter physically but the eating is really dragging me down. My goal is to have it all come together for January 2nd - is that too much to ask?????

My short term goal -through January 2nd -is to maintain my fat loss from my last challenge through the holidays. I am doing this by following the nutrition and workouts, but allowing a little wiggle room. Since I am not officially in my challenge (I ended Dec. 4) I am essentially counting calories and allow my self a treat if I really really want it and can afford it calorically. This helps me decide what treats I want, if any, without feeling totally holiday deprived. I also am going to some kickbox and hip-hop classes to spice things up, doing HIIT a little differently (like adding more time or different incline, etc...) just so I'm not burned out to start my next challenge. Basicaly, I'm giving myself a little mental break in between challenges, but still trying to keep it interesting.
Long-term goals...those are still being revised for my next challenge - but I am way excited to start officially once more!

My goals are to get into shape. I was at 198 pounds and a 40 inch waist back in July and needed to do something. I do not like getting older and being in shape will make me feel younger. So, my goals are simple: get to a 30 - 32" waist, be around 10% body fat, and not have to breath hard when working around the house. I also need to keep up with my 2 year old.
I can also tell you my wife's goals were similar, with the exception of losing weight. She feels she is fine weight wise but wanted to be more toned. She also wants to be able to keep up with Onica, and after having given birth at 47 yrs old when most people are slwoing down and awaiting grandkids, we are just picking up steam. In fact, that brings to mind a good subject for another thread!!

I am in what I call a "survival" challenge. By that I mean trying to work out without sustaining any injuries over the winter. Can't wait until winter is over so I can work out harder. But my goal is to be able to do arm curls with 30 lbs.
Like Flower,I had high expectations. My goals are taking much longer than expected. I figured I would easily be in a size 12 by now but I'm not so I'm just taking it one day at a time and try not to be so hard on myself. Otherwise, I will get discouraged if I work too hard and don't meet my expectations/goals.
My long term goal is to be about 15% body fat and be in a size 5.
I think some of the reason I have not met some of my goals is my misunderstanding of the program and just trying to get into some good habits. I ask myself though, "Have I been successful?" And I would have to say, yes. I say yes because I am much physically stronger today than I was when I began this quest. I say yes because I am also much healthier. I say yes because my self esteem has risen. I say yes because I am a new person, being recreated everyday as the cells in my body are being transformed, and not only my cells but also my mind. My mind is much clearer and I am at peace. So yes, I have been successful regardless if I have not met my goals by a certain deadline.

When I started last Jan at 200 lbs my goal was to loose 25 lbs when I did
I set another goal to loose 25 more. I did, then I set my goal to win that lifers forum contest and I did
Now my short term goal is to loose BF percentage and gain muscle and fit into a size 12 jeans by the end of the year, then to be in a size 10 by my 52nd birthday in Feb and last my long term goal is to be in the best shape of my life by the time of the BFL Cruise in June and then stay that way!
I'll GET*HER*DONE!!!

iceskater, reading what you wrote gave me chills. You should feel so proud!
My goals are simple: Eat Clean, Workout Intensely 6 Days/Week, Get Plenty of Rest, Drink Lots of Water
My cardio goal is to run alternating minutes of low/high intensity intervals on the treadmill with my low being 5.0 mph and my high being 10 mph (i.e., minute 1: 5 mph, min. 2: 10 mph, min. 3: 5 mph, min. 4: 10 mph, etc.). I'm just waiting for my shin splints to heal then I'm all over it.
My strength goals are a little different - I don't really care how much I can lift, I just want to increase my lifting ability each week.
No aspirations of competing, but I want to look like I could compete if I wanted to. =)

Six pack by the time school starts back in August 2006.
I was telling my wife that I want to be able to lift up my shirt and show off my six pack to my students. She said, "Your not going to show your stomach to your students are you?" I replied, "Honey, if I develop six pack abs, I will be showing off my stomach to EVERYONE!!!"

Well, I met my last goals of losing 8-10 pounds (lost 12) and I am in the best shape I've been in at least 10 years or more. I can't believe it sometimes!
So now my longterm goals are to compete in a 5 k race, see my abs, add core moves like Pilates to improve my core strength, posture and flexibility and, most importantly, maintain the good workout and eating habits I've started over the past 11 weeks. Oh and to inspire my family and friends to adopt a healthy and active lifestyle! (My husband just started running in the mornings.. yay!)
Body for Life Forum Message by Reagiesmom (295 posts) at 09:53 PM
anavywife i have the same problem. My shoet term goal of being under 140 is SO close but I CANT get below 143!!! NO matter what! So my shortest term goal is not to backslide through the holiday parties. Just trying to maintain til Jan1 and then I'll have to figure out what I'm doing wrong.
Another short term goal for me is to qualify for the Boston marathon on Feb 18th in myrtle beach. I think I have a 50/50 chance. I KNOW i can do it in '06 at one of my races, but if I do it then, I can run the 2006 Boston in April!

Short term goals: 1. to get to 123 pounds by the end of my C2 and around 14.5%bf. Currently I am at 131 and 17.1% on week 6. Been holding some kind of flight pattern for the past several weeks on the weight, which is driving me up a wall! 2. to keep pounding away at my workouts and increasing my strength. 3. keep up the clean eating
Long term goals: 1. TO NO LONGER BE A JIGGLYPUFF! 2. 115-120pounds, no real idea of my bf, but to keep slowly building the muscle and lose the fat 3. I want to get to a 24inch waist! 4. lose the fat around my knees 5. develop some calves! lol 6. lose the ripples and cellulite on my legs
These are my goals for now, but I'm sure I'll revamp as I go along! I have never in my adult life been under 125 pounds, and I usually get stuck around 130 as I am now. I am determined! I don't care how many challenges it is going to take, I WILL GET THERE! As long as something is slowly going down (ie: bf, pounds, inches), I will be happy!

I'm pathetic I swear! I finished my first challenge on Saturday 12/10 with awesome results. And my intention has been to take a couple weeks off and start a new challenge on January 2nd so I could enjoy the holidays and parties w/o having to hyper focus on my eating, etc. But WOW WOW WOW I am sooooooooo not ready to try and live w/o the structure of BFL!!!! Happily I can report that the exercise is absolutely a habit now and part of my daily routine, so I've continued that just fine. But I'm afraid I've pretty much been eating non-stop since finishing my challenge! I'm afraid I'm gonna gain back every flabby pound I lost during my challenge during these few weeks "off"!!!! I've definitely learned that the eating isn't habit yet, and I still really need to focus and plan to eat well or I simply don't.
I've changed my plans and will be starting challenge #2 on Monday December 26th since I'll be done with holiday gatherings by then. I'm gonna just keep exercising and do my best to not completely sabotage my previous efforts with my eating over the next week. Wish me luck!!!

Hi Everyone, I've just started BFL on Dec 5 and have been going well...but have been struggling with motivation, especially at the office with then endless amount of feasting going on around here. My office has become SnackTown, USA. They're all eating CONSTANTLY and I can't get out to the interview rooms without walking by stacks of sweets and treats. GAH!
I'm keeping myself motivated and away from the temptations by reminding myself, come January 1st, my coworkers will all be moaning about holiday weight gain, but my pants will be LOOSER! Yay!

Body for Life Forum Message by amkazen (123 posts) at 08:45 PM
Well, the past 2 days have been very tough.
1st, there have been 3 potlucks at work, plus a luncheon.
2nd, I had to work two 14-hour days in a row, getting off work at 9:15 pm and 11:00 pm on those 2 days. Yesterday, I had to catch up with my family and sleep. It was really busy at work with a montonous task I hated, could hardly take a break besides grabbing a bite to eat from the food that piled up on the table right outside my door. And, I am the kind of person that when something has to be done I hate, I tend to neglect everything else, so my trips to the water fountain decreased, and my appetite increased because I could smell and see everything 3 feet away from me. Ugh.
And, because I was tired in the mornings, I missed my cardio one morning and my workout the next morning. I was just feeling down all over.
But, mellie told me to kick myself in the pants, quit wallowing, and just do it. So, I took her advice, did my UBWO last night with my wife, and did 30 minutes on the elliptical this morning at 4:40 am, going from level 5 to level 10 in 1 minute intervals for 28 minutes, and the final 2 allowing my heart to slow down. It sure felt good to knock out 2 workouts in a row!
The good news is raygeo has graduated and he & I can get back to a regular workout schedule at 5:30! This will help, as he can really push me. I am feeling my UBWO from last night but my wife was unable to help me on the bench press to the level Ray does. I had to ask for help from some guys next to us and that was nice of them to help out. Otherwise, I would not have hit my 10's.
I am very surprised and happy with myself for having been at this since July 4, 2005. Although this Challenge #2 is more difficult for me, I am still at it because of the support I get from my fellow NM BFL'ers and from the posts I read here on tracker. THANKS TO ALL for your help, especially mellie for telling me to get back at it!!

We just had this last night for the first time and it was really tasty! I don't know what I would do w/o Cooking Light magazine . . .
Honey-Hoisin Pork Tenderloin
Combine first 6 ingredients in a small bowl. Pour 1/4 cup honey mixture into a large zip-top plastic bag; reserve remaining honey mixture. Add pork to bag; seal and marinate in refrigerator 30 minutes, turning bag occasionally.
Remove pork from bag; discard marinade. Sprinkle pork with salt. Heat a large ovenproof skillet over medium-high heat. Coat pan with cooking spray. Add pork; cook 2 minutes, browning on all sides. Brush 1 tablespoon reserved honey mixture over pork; sprinkle with sesame seeds. Place skillet in oven. Bake at 400° for 20 minutes or until a thermometer registers 160° (slightly pink) or until desired degree of doneness.
Place pork on a platter; let stand 5 minutes. Cut pork across the grain into thin slices. Drizzle with the remaining honey mixture.
