Thread: Shoulder pain... (102 Views)

Body for Life Forum Message by Northern Belle (101 posts) at 08:24 AM:
I have had a dull pain in both shoulders for many years. Partly it is due to the way I sleep, and I find during the day, I have to concentrate on not hunching my shoulders in front of the computer. I took the shoulder exercises away from the upper body work, and put them with the lower body. This seems to help a bit. If I skip any exercise, it will be the shoulder work. Shoulders do not need higher weights at all.

wow, I feel like a phony now, I should have said I'm a weekend snowboarder. I am the one jealous! 17 days already, good job!

Like snowboardingfairy, I love bikram but don't do it that often as the classes are so expensive down here. I suppose I could do it for free in the summertime in my backyard! LOL! I like to do gentle, hatha yoga 2x/wk after my HIIT session because my muscles are warmed up from the cardio. I use the hatha as a way to stretch and relax.

I think I'll just sit in the sauna joking.....I have considered adding yoga (or pilates) to challenge 2 using all the knowledge you guys can muster up......which would you suggest?

Body for Life Forum Message by Thisisit! AKA BubbleButt (333 posts) at 12:15 PM:
I do power yoga 3x a week. I am kind of doing a modified exercise plan so I can't tell you that it made a big difference in my progress... but what I can tell you is that yoga is supposed to build longer, lighter muscles than weight work (I am doing both), and that because (imo) it works the muscles differently than the weight work, it is a great way to go if you aren't doing the traditional bfl. I've been doing it 4 months... 3 w/out weights, just added some back in a few weeks ago, and feel like between the two I am seeing really nice changes.

Body for Life Forum Message by snowboardingfairy (155 posts) at 12:23 PM:
Agent69- I highly recomend both. I do Pilates as well as yoga, and both bring different things to the table. I know that here we have yoga centers (like Corepower Yoga-which is where I go)that cost like $80.00 a month and you can take as many classes as you want, or you can just pay for each class you do. It ranges from $5.00-$15.00 depending on what class. Maybe take a few classes of each, and see what feels good to you. WARNING-both are highly addictive :)

Body for Life Forum Message by tigermuscle (299 posts) at 04:42 AM: To my dear friend...

I really thought I wasnt going to be able to deal with this for a couple of days. I was so, so sure there wasnt going to be any problems and I was confident I would be talking to her again very soon. I dont have a plan for what I want to write Im just letting my thoughts flow. I like you love Julie and I never really told her that. We all know we should tell the ones close to us how we feel about them before we cant but sometimes that gets pushed to the back of our minds. I know she knows but I should of told her. The last time we actually spoke on the phone was when my son was born in March. She was so happy for us. We had each others numbers and I should of called more. Ive known Julie for over two years. I remember when she ws so weak when she started her BFL journey she used rolled coins as dumbells, and she had to eat some of her meals through a feeding tube. I could always count on hearing from her every day, even on days when it was more or a struggle than others. She would even email me during a workout..which at that point I would jokingly tell her to get back to work and contact me when she's done. We were tremondous (spelling) friends even though we never met. I truly wish I could of gone to the last Tennessee BFL meeting in October, but God must of had a reason why I didnt go. I was looking thru some emails that I had saved thougout my jounrey that has inspired me..most of them were from Julie. This is one she sent me and told me to include in my challenge packet..I would like to share it with you:

Note your slip as well and how I KNOW you are going to overcome it here in the end.  Be sure to mention how you have helped others, how you post encouragement to the Guestbook (for years!), how you changed your job, how you pre-empted diabetes, you got married...you have totally changed your life.  I would never have carried through with BFL and eventually become a champion if not for you.  In fact, many people include additional information in their packet.  Here's something you may want to print and send with your packet...way before I was a champ.

Julie Whitt, Guestbook Post, 6/1/04 C3W9D58 I've received many e-mails from all of you that say I've inspired you and that makes me so happy. I'd like to talk about someone who inspires me...Gary Jacobs. The first day I logged on the Guestbook in September 2003, Gary wrote me to see if I needed any help or advice on my first challenge. He consistently checked on me every single day of that challenge. I doubt there was anyone on the planet any more proud of me than Gary was when I finished. A special memory of mine is Christmas Eve when Gary and I e-mailed back and forth, the equivalent of a chat, while I was doing my UBWO before all the holiday festivities began. I started challenge two in January and as usual, Gary was there with a daily dose of encouragement. When I was seriously injured and hospitalized in March, there was an e-mail from Gary that said, "I'll be praying for you." That was when I knew I had made a friend just as special as my friends here at home, even though we've never met. I was in despair after my injury, but Gary told me that he knew I would overcome this. And I did. Now here I am in the last weeks of challenge three, and guess who's still checking on me? You know, I couldn't quit BFL if I wanted to, because I know Gary would kick my @$$! And I would never let him down. Gary has trained for two marathons in the time I've known him and now he's going to enter a body-building competition. I've got tears in my eyes right now just thinking about all he's been through to get to this moment. He works, he goes to college, he's becoming a certified trainer, he's a husband and he wants to be a father. He is my mentor and I want to send kudos his way for the wonderful friend he is to me and so many others. God bless you, Gary. That's the kind of friendships that are made through BFL. Friends-for-LIFE.

I love you Julie. I will miss you.

Thread: Yes you can drink too much water! (16 Views)

Body for Life Forum Message by Lar (25 posts) at 09:17 PM: Yes you can drink too much water!
Hi everyone. I have noticed a fair amount of talk about the amount of water people drink. Here is a interesting news article. www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?f=/news/archive/2002/05/23/financial1003EDT0064.DTL&type=health If you type"Consequences of drinking too much water" in Yahoo a number of informative sites come up. When you drink too much water you can get Hyponatremia which basically means not enough salt in the body. This can lead to many dire consequences including swelling of the brain which can lead to death. I have not been able to find out how much you would actually have to drink to get this. My wife has actually had clients who have drank to much water and had to go to the hospital. She is a mental health worker. I am also a nursing student and have been a massage therapist for eleven years. I know that Hyponaetremia is definitely not good. Anyways I just thought I would pass this information onto everyone.

Body for Life Forum Message by J-Dub (25 posts) at 09:21 PM:
You can.... but you'd have to really, really work at it. I read about this a few years ago. You'd have to drink about 4 gallons of water in a day to really tax your kidneys. The only people who are really at risk of drinking too much water are marathon runners who chug a bunch of water right after they finish a race. I'm safe. :)

I'll look into Optimum. But really whats so bad about that one or others like it? Cuck since you don't mind the research LOL, I believe you just wouldn't mind knowing why. Tracey

Body for Life Forum Message by chuckdiesel99 (772 posts) at 09:01 AM:
Flower, this might be more than you ever wanted to know about protein but here are some opinions on them. Basically ON 100% whey is considered the best because of taste, mixability, and price. I dont think there is really anything wrong with Designers. I have never tried it so I cant comment on mixability or taste. I think some people might have issues with all the additives in it however. http://forum.bodybuilding.com/showthread.php?t=478788&highlight=whey http://forum.bodybuilding.com/showthread.php?t=564042&highlight=designer http://forum.bodybuilding.com/showthread.php?t=473689&highlight=designer http://forum.bodybuilding.com/showthread.php?t=314837&highlight=designer http://forum.bodybuilding.com/showthread.php?t=248279&highlight=designer

I am interested also. I have been thinking about adding a protein powder to my diet as I cant seem to eat enough meat to get the 40/40/20 thing going. Can anyone else comment on the best mid-priced protein powder to use?

Body for Life Forum Message by GetInShape (32 posts) at 09:17 AM:
I use Optimum 100% Whey and have been very happy with it. Their protein bars are good too. I get mine from a supplement dealer on ebay for $23.99 plus shipping.

GetinShape...are you talking about the 5lb tubs for that price?

Body for Life Forum Message by nutz (114 posts) at 09:23 AM:
I also use Optimum Nutrition 100% Whey. I can get the 2 lbs tub for $19 including shipping from bodybuilding.com I like it because it mixes well in water with a spoon or shaker.

Yes Chuck, the 77 servings size.

Body for Life Forum Message by chuckdiesel99 (772 posts) at 09:39 AM:
LoL. Well, reading message boards and articles on the net for 6 hours a day for about 5 months will teach you a lot....wow I need help. Ive never heard of Lean Protein shakes. Is it a brand name? I buy my stuff on either www.allstarthealth.com or www.bodybuilding.com The prices range from $12-$14 per 2lb tub. Shipping is a flat rate of $5 on allstarhealth and $6 on bodybuilding.com

Body for Life Forum Message by GetInShape (32 posts) at 09:49 AM:
Here is the link to the dealer on ebay. http://stores.ebay.com/advantagesupplements Shipping for the first item is $8.99 and $2.99 for any additional items. They also have a website at: http://advantagesupplements.com/ but some of their prices are a couple of dollars more than at auction but they offer free shipping on orders over $200. I have no affiliation with these folks I just know they are honest and I always receive my products.

Body for Life Forum Message by LeoGirl (201 posts) at 09:55 AM:
I just ordered some Optimum Nutrition 100% whey before I ever saw this thread. I did a little homework on it and it seemed to be a good choice! I've tried designer and some generic brands. I wasn't impressed with either. I live in canada and this is where I got mine. http://www.sndcanada.com/gc/gc_page.exe?F=I&K=&R=&SN=10231837 4720520688250179&FF=D&FK=EA-C300&Z9=0

I want to chime in on recommending the Optimum Nutrition 100% Whey -- I love it. But make sure you get the black label, NOT THE NATURAL. Ick.

Body for Life Forum Message by Flower (2058 posts) at 11:32 PM:
The "black lable" what does that mean? I need chocolate!!!!! Tell me its chocolate and its going to be okay! Not some funky thing like Johnny Walker Black Label Scotch!!!!!! he, he - I detest scotch and "black label" sounds like a "red flag"!

Body for Life Forum Message by snowboardingfairy (155 posts) at 08:35 AM: Fear of Progress (or lack of)
Is it just me? I havent taken measurments or pic's in weeks in fear of what I wont see. I feel I've been busting my butt, and really trying to eat clean. And although I feel pretty darn good, pictures don't lie, and I'm worried I'll feel my hard work has reaped little results. I'm scared that if I don't look better in my picture that I will be disouraged and quite. At the same time, if there is a noticeable difference maybe it will inspire me to push harder. I just need to bite the bullet and take the measurements and picture. Sometimes the truth hurts...

Thanks Mellie, you are looking fab in your pics :) I just need to DO IT!! I need to stop talking and thinking about it and just take some action :)

Body for Life Forum Message by AngRoCamp (118 posts) at 09:10 AM:
For me the trick was not taking my pictures too soon. I waited till 6 weeks and then did my final pics. That way the changes were less subtle and more noticeable :) I'm sure if you've been working the program you're going to be very pleased with the results!!! Keep up the good work :) ~Ang

Body for Life Forum Message by GetInShape (32 posts) at 09:26 AM:
It's not just you. I haven't taken picture for awhile either. I hate looking at pictures of myself and don't think I'll ever be comfortable doing it. I think I look heavier in them than when I look in a mirror. I just keep trying to convince myself that it is true, “The camera adds 10lbs.” LOL

Body for Life Forum Message by snowboardingfairy (155 posts) at 09:28 AM:
LOL the camera adds at LEAST 10 lbs :)

Body for Life Forum Message by gbfan (324 posts) at 09:30 AM:
I took my pictures every 6 weeks until my last challenge (C4). I am now just taking them at the end of my challenges because I'm so far into the program. I have to tell you though, that I was MISERABLE every time I looked at my pics. I saw in the mirror so much more progress than my pics seemed to show. My husband (thank God for him!) urged me to keep at it... he'd point out things in my pics that he saw changing (I couldn't see it, but he did) and I kept plugging along. I am SOOOO grateful that I took those pictures (and weekly measurements) now... it shows how far I've come and that makes me proud. The changes come from the inside out... a lot is going on in your insides that the mirror and camera can't see, but changes are happening. Even if you're pictures are not what you are hoping for... keep plugging along... your body is adapting to the demands you are placing on it. You are young, and beautiful. Your body will respond. It already has! Look at your body fat % going down!! You will be simply amazed at your results... it may not all happen in C1, but it will happen. And later, you will be proud of your pictures and the transformation you've had! Don't be afraid of the tape measurer or the camera... they are your friends!

Body for Life Forum Message by ocpanther65 (163 posts) at 09:43 AM:
Don' worry you will see the changes soon. I have done this program many times and it usually takes me 6 weeks to see changes. I am following it very strictly and to a T this time and I am seeing them even faster. It will come you just have to stay the course!

Body for Life Forum Message by snowboardingfairy (155 posts) at 11:02 AM:
Thanks guys, I'm in week 10 and haven't taken pic's since week 4. Your all very encouraging, and I will post a pic by next week. Having said that please feel free to give me a swift kick in the bootie if there not there by next Tues. :)

Wrapping Paper

The story goes that some time ago a mother punished her 5 year old daughter for wasting a roll of expensive gold wrapping paper.
Money was tight and she became even more upset when the child used the gold paper to decorate a box to put under the Christmas tree.

Nevertheless, the little girl brought the gift box to her mother the next morning and said, "This is for you, Momma."

The mother was embarrassed by her earlier over reaction, but her anger flared again when she opened the box and found it was empty.

She spoke to her daughter in a harsh manner. "Don't you know, young lady, when you give someone a present there's supposed to be something
inside the package?"

She had tears in her eyes and said, "Oh, Momma, it's not empty! I blew kisses into it until it was full."

The mother was crushed. She fell on her knees and put her arms around her little girl, and she begged her forgiveness for her thoughtless
anger.

An accident took the life of the child only a short time later, and it is told that the mother kept that gold box by her bed for all the years of her life. Whenever she was discouraged or faced difficult problems she would open the box and take out an imaginary kiss and
remember the love of the child who had put it there.

In a very real sense, each of us, as human beings, have been given a Golden box filled with unconditional love and kisses from our children, family, friends and GOD. There is no more precious possession
anyone could hold.

Let's live today like its our last and do the right things, make the right choices, share our love, have no regrets tomorrow for something we should have done today...

This story illustrates how the simple gift with thought can actually be the best. It reminded me of when my kids were in preschool (now in middle and high school grades) they had a project for Christmas to wrap an empty box with a card that reads: “This is a special gift That you can never see. The reason it’s so special is It’s just for you and me. Whenever you are lonely Or maybe feeling blue. You only have to hold this And know I think of you. You never can unwrap it Just leave the ribbon tied. And hold the box close to your heart It’s filled with love inside.” No, I didn’t memorize the poem. I've kept the boxes but had forgotten about them until I read Mellie’s post. I knew exactly where they were though. Thanks!

Thread: What Type and How Many Pets (185 Views)

Body for Life Forum Message by amkazen (180 posts) at 12:09 PM: What Type and How Many Pets
This thread was started on a different thread in a different forum so to avoid hijacking the other thread I moved it over here! We have a female, white, domestic bunny named Bugs that some one dumped in our neighborhood. We also have a male domestic short haired cat that is named Cupid because he "found" us on Valentines Day a few years ago. Cupid loves to play with Bugs. We are down from our 3 dogs and 3 cats we have had the past few years, due to old age, unknown problems (broken heart?), cancer, and bobcats (2 of our indoor cats "escaped" one night and that was it). However, we are building back up! Next summer when we fence our yard we'll get another dog, and myabe a goat or two. But, this past Saturday, we finally got our hairless cat after wanting one for 7 years or so. Our allergies are getting worse as we get older so besides thnking they are so ugly they are cute, we got a Sphynx because they are one of the cats with the least amount of dander, which is what people are allergic to. Plus, we wanted less animal hair flying around the house. Our hairless cat is named Quails nest Cleopatra of Azkatz. Her color is a diluted tortie-white and she was born 11/8/02. Her father is Quails Nest Goldberg and her mother is Karma Gea of Quails Nest. How do I know this? A Sphynx is a registered cat breed recognized by the Cat Fancier's Association. I have had pedigreed dogs before but this is the first pedigreed cat I have owned. What a great personality! Loving, cuddly, and warm like a hot water bottle. She feels like suede or velvet. She sleeps under the covers next to you. The other day I looked over and she was sitting in front of the hot wood stove! We kept Cleo in our bedroom the first night so Cupid and her could smell and hear each other through the door. The next day we let them out together and just kept a close watch on their interactions. Other than a few hisses, and puffiness on Cupid's part (there is nothing to puff upon Cleo!), they seemed to get along. We kept them separate agin when we went out but at night we let them out together again. They also spent all day and night together yesterday and seem to be getting along ok. I was really worried about this as Cupid is a fighter!! So, what pets do you have?

Body for Life Forum Message by snowboardingfairy (155 posts) at 12:17 PM:
As you already know I too have a hairless cat. He is a "Blue" sphynx. He looks more like a blue-grey. His daddy is a supreme grand champion Indigo-which is a very rare color in the sphynx world. So we are hoping his good looks and great personality can throw some of that indigo into a litter. I secretly pray that no-one wants to buy any so I can keep them all (hehe). I also have a yellow lab mix and a Weimeraner (sp?). You can see me w/ my Bogie on my profile pic. Amkazen-will you breed or is she of pet quality?

Then just last Sept. we discovered a dog living under a truck here at our warehouse. The guys fed him for about a week till I finally saw him. He was starving, 19 lbs. and so scared but so sweet. Long story short, Rudy, has been with us since Sept. 2004. Just had him at the vet yesterday and he weighs a very lean 31 lbs. He's healthy and happy. But, he has major issues and I hope we can work them out. Just, don't come to my house cuz he won't let you in!!

He is an english bulldog 1.3 yrs old, has 9 grand champions in his blodline, his grandfather was sir mailman wigglebutt (hence the name). He is very stubborn, loves the pittsburgh steeler (he has a bus jersey), likes to relax and watch tv but is also full of way too much energy for a bulldog. I love these furry little creatures! I always tell them the story of how Jesus gave them to me (in a baby voice of course)!

One day Jesus saw how sad mommy was so he looked all around heaven to find the two bestest angels. He looked all over heaven and finally found Elvis and Kennedy and said, "I want you to go to earth and live with Robin so she wont be sad." So he sent you to earth and here you are with mommy so I wont be sad!!!!

Of course you know they love to hear this story!!! ROFL!!!!! <---Said with much sarcasm!!

Body for Life Forum Message by GetNFit (717 posts) at 03:20 PM:
Ever since he was a little kitten when he would lie down on the floor he would drop just like a lion. I started thinking about a lion being the king of the jungle...so the only name I could come up with that was symbolic of "The King" (and I wasnt going to name him God or Jesus! LOL) was Elvis! It fit perfect!!! Don is my Dad's middle name.

Kennedy is very much a lady and pretty snobbish...hence The Kennedy's. And Carol is my mom's name.

So both cats are named after my parents. I had an chinchilla once, and named him Jeffery after my oldest brother. When I lived in LA I owned a ball python and his name was Nebuchednazar (after a biblical king).

I have 1 siamese cat named Norm. He's 10 years old and full of attitude. He meows a lot because of the siamese in him, and he's a content indoor kitty that gets into pretty much everything I own (cupboards (in and on top of them), closests, the garage, on my antique hutch, sits on my lap at the computer, drawers, shelves) and if you're a guest, he'd love to rummage through your suitcase and sleep with you on the bed. (My catsitter called him "Needy Norm" while I was on my honeymoon). He used to eat anything that hit the floor, but now he's a bit pickier in his refined age. He holds out for the good stuff like bits of chicken or cheese. But I love him to bits even though he leaves what I call "gifts from the cat" behind (hairballs, bits of plant, etc), tries to escape once and awhile, and I keep a lint-roller at work to de-shed (he's a short hair, but it still adds up on black dress pants). He's a loving kitty who loves to cuddle up and sleep on me while I'm watching a movie or a football game. To enforce "house rules" (ok, I'm a push-over) I bought a squirt gun to aim at him while he's checking out the dining room table...ok, enough about my unrulely furrball! Take care everyone!

there are clinics all over the place that help people with all kinds of addcitions. The hard part is getting the person to agree on going. Be strong and don't worry about them getting mad at you. You need to help them.

Body for Life Forum Message by amkazen (180 posts) at 01:23 PM:
After having dealt with my stepson and his drug and alcohol addictions for almost 12 years, all I can say is no, he cannot just stop. The very 1st thing he has to do is acknowledge the vicodin is a problem. Until that happens, going to a clinic will not work, unless they provide some kind of vicodin replacement, like methadone instead of heroin. Just stay true to yourself, do not encourage nor assist, and try not to lecture. Just gentle reminders and if the police ever need to be called, be strong and do it, and follow through. The end result is worth it.

I speak from some experience. One day you wake up and everyone who cared about you and worried about you........ well did not care or worry anymore. They just turned there heads and said bad things about you. I think it got a point where my own mother was just waiting for that phn call at a certain point and well, she knew she had done all she could for me. As you can tell I finally came to my senses! After a long battle with drugs and self medicating. And trust me I did it ALL! Either they A) want help or B) Don't want the help Until they choose A) you really have no choice but to try to do your best to help and then let it go. As hard as it is yes you have to let them go down there own path until they make the decision. Always let them know you will be there for them 110% if they choose to stop. But other than that you have to cut them loose because it is to draining to be apart of if they don't want to help themselves. Sorry probably not the thing you want to hear. But I was treated that way and it seemed to work. The more people pleaded with me the more I did it. The more I was shammed and shunned for it I realized hmmmmmm I am loosing all the important people in my life ...... well I wised up. You have to be very strong. You even have to get pissed to do it. But it is worth it and don't expect it to happen over night. I wish you the best of luck.

TNT is right. Please dont take this the wrong way, but often times the people closest to addicts are the enabelers, even if they themselves dont use. Often we enable people by not letting them hit rock bottom. Giving them a place to stay, or lending them money ( even if it seems like it's for something else). Tough love is letting someone know that until they decide they want to get clean, you cannot be a part of their life. If they do decide to get clean, you have to be there for them, but those are the terms. They don't get to make the rules, and until they want a change, you cannot enable them in any way to remain in the lifestyle they are in. I wish you much luck.

Body for Life Forum Message by amodellawyer (11 posts) at 03:51 PM:
Ok, very few people know this about me, but while in law school I was quite strapped for cash and i saw an ad in the local paper for models. It was free consultation so I thought what the hell. They liked me and offered to pay for a photo shoot. So again I thought what the hell. However, I felt so rediculous getting my pictures taken that I never actually went through with an actual job. So this was the time that I started up this email address. It was more appropriate at that time, but I kind of think it has a nice ring to it. Flower - as far as specialization, for now it's estate planning.

Body for Life Forum Message by amkazen (180 posts) at 02:38 PM: Unusual Aspects of Your Life: a spin-off from another thread...again
Ok, Zooman has a tremendous amount of pets, and not just your normal cats & dogs & birds & fish. So, I am curious to hear more about him and what I consider an unusual amount and type of pets. But, the polite thing is to tell a story about me. What is most unusual about me? Most people would tell you my house. It is off-grid, meaning I do not have any connection to the local electric or gas utility provider. I do have a propane tank that supplies my radiant floor and domestic hot water boiler, plus my automatic (usually) back-up generator. We create our power using 1.92kw of solar photovoltaic panels. I also am increasing the size of my solar array to 3.92kw within the next few months. The power created by the PV panels is DC and is stored in 24 6-volt batteries wired in parallel-series in a 48 volt system. The power is then converted from DC to AC by two inverters. I also have a 400kw wind generator I need to get placed on a pole so I can start using it. As mellie can attest to, you would not know my house is powered by the sun unless you asked. Why did we do this? It was the only piece of property after a 4 - 5 year search my wife and I could agree on. When I brought up the fact of no utilities, I was told I was always a big talker and it was time to ante up. So, I did! There! An unusual aspect of my life. Next?? Zooman??

Body for Life Forum Message by ocpanther65 (163 posts) at 02:40 PM:
Wow, I have never heard of that. Sounds pretty cool. Bills suck especially gas this yr. I have no really unusual aspects in my life, but if I think of any I will list them.

Body for Life Forum Message by Agent 69 (315 posts) at 02:41 PM:
WOW------ can't top that

Body for Life Forum Message by Reagiesmom (307 posts) at 02:42 PM:
Hmmmm... I guess I'm not that unusual.... gotta think about this one...

Body for Life Forum Message by crone (392 posts) at 02:47 PM:
I can't think of anything after that.

Body for Life Forum Message by Mellie (517 posts) at 03:02 PM:
Seriously, his house is amazing! It is huge, beautiful, incredible view..you are literally in the mountains! Totally awesome! Whats unusual about me is that my attitude comes naturally, no special education or course! Yep I was born this way! Hard to believe but true!

Body for Life Forum Message by snowboardingfairy (155 posts) at 04:27 PM:
I would say the most unusual thing about me, is people misconception. I speak 3languages and have a science degree. To look at me you would think that I am "white" but I was born in Venezuela, and my mother is from Peru. My father is German, and I am the first generation in my family to live in the U.S. I work in healthcare and I am an activist in the legalization of medical marijuana. That about wraps it up :)

Body for Life Forum Message by zooman (348 posts) at 05:06 PM:
First of all amkazen I'm in awe about you being off grid. I have been researching this but haven't had any luck in Texas on getting anyone to talk to us about getting off the grid. I guess it's not feasible yet, even though we see huge electric bills. Anyway, when Susan(wife)and I got together we debated on human children or the winged and four legged children. The reasons we picked the other children are: easier to potty train, no college fees, unconditional love, no back talk(well the parrots do),when they misbehave you can pen them up and not get into trouble, when they misbehave you can give them away or sell them, if they really really misbehave you can eat them lol(not really).I hear llama and camel is rather tough. We own 17 acres in Alvin, Tx and have 2 ponds for the swans. I have built 3 aviaries with discarded satellite dishes for 2 pair of our macaws. We call this The Parrots Hilton. They are 10 foot across and 9 foot tall. They have plenty of toys and things to chew. They have given us several babies and we kept one, Junior. The camel has 3 acres and shares that with 3 zebu cows. He likes to play kickball and chase. the goofiest thing you could ever see is a camel running across a pasture. They run like no other animal and when those lips start flopping around, you can't do anything but roll in laughter. The mini donkeys share their 2 acres with 2 zebu cattle and the 4 whooping swans. The cows are very affectionate when they are hand raised. the donkey's are little pains in the asses always trying to swipe the cows food. The 5 llamas and horse share their 10 acres with the rest of the cows and 2 black swans. The male swan is meaner than Satan himself and this summer I accidently mowed half his foot off when he was chasing me on the mower. Hence the picture of him when we had him in the house recuping from that. Oh, the other thing, vets are cheaper than pediatricians, lol. The salt water tank is a reef tank and we aree having some luck in that we are selling back coral that is reproducing. It has several small fish, and yes we have a Nemo and Dory in it. The rest of the parrots live in the house and have their own bedroom. They all stay in custom cages, but get out every day and watch T.V.with us, do some computer time and Wacko Willie, my workout partner counts reps for me and imitates my breathing during heavy lifts. He can only count to three though. Facts that I know... my llamas don't spit, my camel doesn't spit, and my cows will swim across the ponds.I heard cows were afraid of water lol. Anyway, that's about it.I was suprised that when some of you guys saw my profile ya'll didn't comment on my trsnsformation lol, it's always about the kids isn't it lol! I hope that about covers it and thank ya'll for the interest in our children. As for me, I guess I better get back to building that better body.

Body for Life Forum Message by amkazen (180 posts) at 05:22 PM:
As for the transformation, I have to admit I was really impressed. In fact, I actually thought you better get in shape with BFL to keep up with your kids!! BFl is not easy but as we can see with you, a fantastic change can occur when BFL is followed. If interested, pm me about the solar. I am guessing you are talking about selling back power to Texas when you mention you were not successfuly in getting someone to talk to you about going off-grid. You can go off-grid yourself when ever you want, as long as the neighborhood covenants don't matter, which I doubt they would in your case. My house is 2-stories, 3,200 sq. ft., electric dryer, dishwasher, home theater room, blah, blah, blah. The system cost $30k 4 years ago and I am about to add another $12k to it. It is not cheap, and there is maintenance, and the batteries last anywhere from 4 - 7 years, and cost about $200 each. I have 24 of them and at 4.5 years old, I am hoping I can get them to last until the summer. In NM, it is just about a break-even proposition over 30 years, maybe a little longer. In CA, it would be more like 15 years or so, and less since CA has a tremendous rebate for solar. Oh, and if you are curious why we did it it is because the subdivision developer in the 1950's did not put in utilities, the local Indian pueblo started a bingo casino, made money, built a full blown casino and resort, made more money, hired lawyers, and prevents our subdivision and local utility companies from bringing in power, natural gas, phone service, and paved roads. Well, PM for more info.

My eyes are dillating like they're wowing or something. amaken weirdo guy - I want to see some pictures - sounds truly fascinating. I just wish I understood the mumbo jumbo - can you give it to me like I'm in 3rd grade? zooman - just so YOU know that I KNOW what you're talking about (okay just to some degree) I owned a small parrot at one time "Rudy" and actually am quite knowledgeable when it comes to parrots. The other "cuckoos" you have, well......all I've got to say is "Satan" is lucky it was only his foot, your camels, llamas, emus, ostriches and whatever else probably haven't had reason to spit, nor have your saltwater fish for that matter (bah, ha, ha - I kill me). Oh, and back to the parrots - they make just as much mess as any children!!!!

I can't top that one, but, at my place, we call it the funny farm we have horses, goats, chickens, ducks, had a cow that thought it was a dog, we raised her from new born from the petting zoo and she and the dog were best friends and when I would go in to feed her, the dog ,Blue Boy would run to me and so would patches, but patches would put her 2 front feet up on you and after 300 lbs she could kill someone, so we sold her as a milk cow. my goat butted everything, including me, and when she butted me in the butt and knocked me down she was history. The goose would attack and fly from the pond to the horse barn at me, I'd fight her with a top of a garbage can, but when she pecked my granddaughter right next to her eye, lucy the goosie was history too. Kourtney the Kountry Kat is will be 15yrs old in April. when Kourtney was a kitten he would sit up on my shoulder while I walked around the house, he then learned that if people could go horse back riding so could he. I was never able to catch that picture though, but it was unbelievable to see. as far as my house, well I have 2 rooms that most people don't have, a movie theater, with theater seats and a 50's diner game room. It's filled with 50's stuff and coke and a B&W checked floor and pink and turquois walls, a pinball machine, soda fountain snack bar and a concession stand with a theater style popcorn machine in the lobby of the thether. The kids and grandkids love it! So do I! GET*HER*DONE LINDA

Interesting article Chuck. It doesn't surprise me. It seems that in a lot of school districts the first cuts happen in the physical education department and then they wonder why our kids are fat. The phys ed program I had when I was a kid was a daily thing. Nowadays in elementary schools they kids are lucky if they get PE once a week. Throw in all the electronic babysitters and it makes sense. Sad but true.

How old is the original Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer (Burl Ives)? I first remember watching it when I was about 4 - that means 36 years ago!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I know I was this age because I remember the house we lived in and laying on the living room floor watching it. This is my all time favourite. The toys sitting on the Land of Misfit Toys waiting for Santa still brings tears to my eyes. Just hearing it on the kids TV right now gives me a warm fuzzy feeling. Tell me this is your favourite too!

Snow - that movie was filmed in Cleveland. Some guy bought the house on Ebay and turned the house into A Christmas Story Museum. He brought in some of the actors and had a party at the house the day after thanksgiving.

Body for Life Forum Message by Karla (451 posts) at 06:00 PM:
I wondered where that was filmed, Crone. It's supposed to take place in Ft. Wayne, IN. My husband is from Ft. Wayne ("The City That Saved Itself" he always tells me), so we knew it wasn't really filmed there. I own the following Christmas movies: 1. A Christmas Story 2. Miracle on 34th St 3. It's a Wonderful Life 4. White Christmas 5. Christams Vacation 6. The Nightmare Before Chrismas (this is sort of a X-mas/Halloween hybrid) I love them all! I also love The Island of Misfit Toys Tracey...I even know the words to the song they sing, if you want to hear. Such a sad plight for those toys, but a great ending!

A Christmas Story is my favourite too. Its A Wonderful Life used to be, but not anymore. My brother-IL worked on that movie for the duration of it. According to him and my SIL "Ralphie" was not so endearing. The best they could describe him was a bit too "old for his years". Just thought I'd toss that in. Here's another tid bit. After Alexis first saw that show (she was about say 3 or 4) my MIL caught her in the bathroom staring at herself in the bathroom mirror with a bar of soap in her mouth "just to see what Ralphie was doing". We do Randy eating all the time (the piggy stuff), we try to dress Chloe in winter garb like Randy and we don't discourage Chloe "hiding" like Randy either! LOL Back to Rudolph!!!!!!

I have also documented in my Living Will that some of my remains will go to my Search & Rescue group for them to use as training aids. Strange I know, but a very worthy cause. If you get your Living Will drawn up by a professional and have it properly signed by witnesses, your wishes will be carried out. If you don't have a living will, check out legalzoom.com. I got one done for free there a couple months ago. They are charging for them now, but they are reasonably priced. Danielle

Linda, it's not at all uncommon for me to eat all my meals for the day from the EFL cookbook; I don't rely on the nutritional info from the EFL website, but calculate it on my own using the info for all ingredients. Doing so, I arange anywhere from 1400-1700 calories a day and love every single thing I eat! Megan

Body for Life Forum Message by gbfan (324 posts) at 12:46 PM:
You might want to know that EFL eating varies SLIGHTLY from the BFL authorized list. Such as... you can have an apple and 2 low-fat string cheeses for a mid-meal on EFL. On the BFL authorized list the low-fat cheese is a FAT, not a protein. You will have to determine how you feel about that sort of thing. The recipes in EFL are very tasty!! Can't live without the cheesecake!

Body for Life Forum Message by michiganmike (176 posts) at 01:17 PM:
The EFL portions are too large if you're trying to lose fat/weight. They are midway between a maintenance portion for a guy and a lady. (See page 73.)On the EFL website the recipes are all now broken down with nutrtitional content and the calories by correct portion sizes. It's great food overall, even though an individual recipe or two might be light in one way or another or a bit too heavy. in the long run, it will even out. I don't use them for serious training, such as during a challenge, but I do otherwise.

Body for Life Forum Message by Moggie (611 posts) at 04:09 PM:
I agree Mike. I just cut down my portion sizes a bit to make up for that. I love the desserts and chicken enchiladas.

I love EFL because I used to eat terribly. While I wasn't terribly overweight, I'm sure eating two Del Taco burritos with french fries and a Coke every day at lunch wasn't the best choice I could make. Now I have a guide to teach me about healthier eating. Tom P.S. last night and planned over for lunch today was the Singapore Shrimp. OMIGOSH was that great!

Body for Life Forum Message by chuckdiesel99 (772 posts) at 09:49 AM:
Once or twice a week. Doing anymore is not really helpful. Abs are muscles just like all the others in your body and they need rest. I hate to be the bringer of bad news but doing a hundred crunches will strengthen the abs, but won’t do anything to the fat that hides them. Only hard work, cardio, and a healthy diet will you get a flat stomach and defined abs.

Body for Life Forum Message by nutz (114 posts) at 07:28 AM:
I'd have to do some research but I think the puking is rooted in blood flow and oxygen (i.e lack of it). Like Jeremy said, it could be a number things. Your breathing may be strained since you're on your stomach so that may contribute to the problem. Nevertheless, I think it's a sign you are working your tail off. I need to look into this one more.

Body for Life Forum Message by nutz (114 posts) at 07:37 AM:
Okay. A quick search didn't yield anything very scientific. Just advice such as wait 2-3 hours to workout after a meal and don't drink too much water because the stomach may get too full, etc. So, maybe it's not physiologically over complicated.

According to a trainer I had, it's best to do your triceps and biceps last because they ARE used in many chest/back/shoulder exercises and you want to make sure they are strong enough to help you do all those correctly. Then when it's time to focus on them, yes they may more tired, but that's not necessarily a bad thing..it just means you've already worked them a little and you do the best you can. Personally, I go to failure, even if it means only doing 3 of 6 reps...then next time, I try to go for 4 of 6. This just makes more sense to me as far as trying to get stronger each workout.

Hi everyone I posted a while ago about my upper body workouts. I'm managing to get them a bit more intense, but I want more! My gym only has dumbbells - at the moment I am lifitng 15 pound DBs for my six reps. I could do more, but the next heavier dumbell is 20 pounds - and I can't do that much more!! Any ideas how to make the workout more intense without raising the weight?

Body for Life Forum Message by blemt (124 posts) at 06:55 AM:
Two ideas, one lower the rest/recovery time between sets. Two, go online and get those magnetic weights in the 2.5 pound range. Stick em to the ends of your gyms dumbells and voila!

How often do you try to increase your weights? Like, every 2 or three weeks or what?

Body for Life Forum Message by chuckdiesel99 (772 posts) at 11:20 AM:
I would increase the weight when you are no longer hitting your 10s with the weight you used previously.

Body for Life Forum Message by Hillary (56 posts) at 11:41 AM:
I usually end up increasing at least a little each week, but I'm sure it's different for each person. For legs I might go up 2.5 pounds after a week (depending on whether or not I'm still hitting my 10's, as Chuck said) whereas for arms, especially triceps, I might only be able to increase by a pound in a week (I use 1 # and 2.5 # wristbands to increase the weight...helps tremendously as I can't go up a whole 5#s)

Body for Life Forum Message by healthyme (57 posts) at 12:23 PM:
That's a great idea Hillary! I've always had problems going up in weights because of the 5lb difference. I'm going to invest in some of these! Thankyou for the idea!

Actually, I just read on another post about PlateMates, which I had never heard of...they're these magnetic plates that you can stick on the ends of hex or round dumbbells to go up by 2.5. I'm thinking I might get these because I can only find anklebands in 2.5 around here so they slide up and down my arm (VERY annoying)...something to consider :)

No excuses myself either. I had lost focus for the first two weeks of my challenge, but after hearing about the loss of Julie I realized I was just being lazy, which made me ashamed of myself. Instead I hit my 10's on my UBWO.

Thread: Why do you use the tracker? (218 Views)

Body for Life Forum Message by J-Dub (25 posts) at 08:35 PM:
I use Tracker (again!) for a few reasons. One, it's a great place to track my progress and keep myself accountable because I'm tracking in front of all of you. Two, I get support when I need it, when I feel like I can't get through a BFL day, you all help with that. And three, giving support is just as helpful, to me anyway, as getting it. It kind of makes me look at what I'm doing and making sure I'm on track while I help someone else do the same. And on some subjects (peeing every 10 minutes, eating every 3 hours, crying over the death of a person I've never met), only my fellow Trackers can understand. :)

Thread: Bigger then ever, more depressed then ever thinking it is pointless......... (363 Views)

Body for Life Forum Message by J-Dub (25 posts) at 08:41 PM:
It's never pointless. Every time you make a positive change, you are helping yourself, you are taking a step toward better health. It's ok to get frustrated, but try to use that frustration in your workouts, to hit new 10s. Every day that you eat EFL-style, you are healthier than the day before. Every time you work out, you have improved your body and your health. Make a plan, set a goal, and then take it one day at a time. The scale doesn't matter. Sure, it's a tool, and you'll want to use it over time, but don't let it make or break your day, your week, your life. Each day, set a goal to eat on plan, exercise as planned, and drink your water. And then count your successes! It's never pointless. You can do this!

Body for Life Forum Message by Greg_H (12 posts) at 09:04 PM:
Many of your issues are my issues as well. I too went through the "scale shock" that you described just this past Sunday. I have never weighed as much as I do now, and this is after losing 100 lbs. from June 2000 to April 2001. I understand how big a blow that can be to your self esteem, self image...you know, all that inner stuff. My inner stuff has never been as bad as it is now, but I am getting so much help from some very special and understanding people here, and I in turn want to help others as well. You know that there are so many here willing to help, and I am one of them. Good luck with this challenge, you can do it!!

Julie and I emailed each other a few times and spoke of her illness. My mother died of Hodgkins disease when I graduated high school. Julie seemed to know how to make things all better. She never gave up where most have. She impressed me always especially when she wore her Wonderwoman suit in her after picture. She touched me in ways no one will ever know. There didnt go a day I didnt think about this amazing woman. I just am soooo sad right now. Linda in Hawaii

Each weekday for the past two weeks I have posted a motivational quote. Sometimes these were quotes that I found interesting, and sometimes they were quotes that really spoke to me. Last night I found one that really kicked me in the gut, and hit me at my core. The following quote comes from the December 12, 2005 blog of Julie Whitt: Today was the best day I’ve had over at the pulmonary center. I love working out. I think a lot of people say, “Ugh! I’ve got to exercise today.” I say, “Yay! I get to exercise today!” - Julie Whitt Julie's words rang so true for me. How many times have I said those words "I've got to". Julie's outlook on life and fitness are truly inspiring. Enjoy your workout day today, and remember that God has granted you another opportunity to "get to" Brian

When was the first time you heard of Julie Whitt? Her profile was one of the first ones I read when I came to tracker for the first time. I will never forget how inspired she made me feel and I had only read 2 paragraphs! It was THE deciding factor on me getting serious, posting pictures and getting BFL started. When I felt sorry for myself I would just say to myslef, "Julie wouldn't give up". I am so completly amazed at this woman and her motivation and I will strive to try and be half of what this amazing woman was to me!

Body for Life Forum Message by Agent 69 (315 posts) at 07:17 AM:
early 2005, I decided to make a change, not just a weight reduction program but a life-changing program.....after doing research on the internet I found BFL. I searched "success stories" and say Julie's profile.....her story was so inspiring, that she had this illness but it had not stopped her from continually trying to improve herself (not just physically). Julie believed in BFL, how it could make you a better you. I feel that she helped hundreds (if not thousands) of others to come to this understanding about themselves.

Body for Life Forum Message by J-Dub (25 posts) at 08:31 PM:
The first time I heard about EFL... I'm never one to just jump in and start something. I have to procrastinate, research, mull it over in my head, and then suddenly I will decide to do it and I have to do it RIGHT NOW. So I'd heard about EFL and started googling it, then googling BFL, and then I stumbled on Tracker. There was a "success story of the month" feature that was only done for 2 months, I guess, but Julie's was one of those. I didn't realize then that she was a champion. But then I went to the BFL site, and there she was again. I was so impressed with her story, her determination, how she was never willing to just give up, even though that would have been the "easy" route. Although I have never actually talked to her or PM'd with her, she was on my mind all the way through my first challenge.

I am at a loss for words. I cannot begin to express how deeply saddened and shocked I am to hear of Julie's death. I honestly thought she was going to make it through this. Julie was the strongest, most courageous and amazing person this world has ever known. She has touched literally thousands of people with her strength, determination and her shining spirit. A true "wonder woman" in every way. She had an enormous heart and a beautiful, sparkling smile. She was and will ALWAYS be a TRUE INSPIRATION. Her unique spirit will continue to live on through so many. She will ALWAYS be a CHAMPION. I will NEVER forget Julie Whitt. I am dedicating my January 2nd BFL challenge to her. She will be my motivation and strength. I am certain that she is dancing with the angels in heaven. She is finally free to dance to her hearts content. Tonight, look up in the sky and search for the brightest star. That star will be Julie's spirit smiling down on all of us. ~Lisa~

Thread: Unconditional Compassion (nice quote) (54 Views)

Body for Life Forum Message by snowboardingfairy (155 posts) at 09:48 AM: Unconditional Compassion (nice quote)
Unconditional Compassion It is unconditional compassion for ourselves that leads naturally to unconditional compassion for others. If we are willing to stand fully in our own shoes and never give up on ourselves, then we will be able to put ourselves in the shoes of others and never give up on them. True compassion does not come from wanting to help out those less fortunate than ourselves but from realizing our kinship with all beings. Pem Chodron, Start Where You Are

Body for Life Forum Message by raygeo (329 posts) at 10:05 AM: Julie Whitt, Red Rocks and the BFL Expo
One of Julie's dreams was to run Red Rocks after her transplant. For all of us that are going to the expo; I hope we can organize a run in her honor. Please let me know if you're interested. I'll contact Marc Bennett to see if anything is being planned. We love you Julie.

Body for Life Forum Message by snowboardingfairy (155 posts) at 10:30 AM:
Raygeo- you can see Red Rocks from my house :) I would be honored to host a BFL friendly gathering in my home after our run. I can have all kinds of authorized goodies for us to eat. And although I don't know a lot of you, for anyone who's struggeling financially to get out to Colorado and do this, I would like to open my home as a place to stay. Beware-I do have dogs and a cat, so if your allergic, this can pose a problem.

Body for Life Forum Message by snowboardingfairy (155 posts) at 11:06 AM:
I have 1 guestroom with a queen bed, and a workout room (so you won't miss out) that can sleep someone there, as well as a couch and an empty livingroom that people can "camp" out on blankets/sleepingbags. And for those who fear the cold, don't worry I have a hairless cat so we keep it really toasty in the house.

I PROMISE yall that I am NOT trying to take away ANYTHING from the posts here about my true friend and real-life Hero Julie. Its just that I need your help with prayers right now too. Please..while you are sending your prayers could you include my "Baby" Rocky in them?? Rocky is my Lil Min Pin but he doesnt know hes a dog-hes literally my second child. Rocky went into Congestive Heart Failure this morning and as I write this, is on oxygen at the Emergency Vet Hospital. The next 24 hours are critical. Please understand...I KNOW this is NOTHING in comparison to what most of us are going thru right now, but he is my Baby and I cant imagine life without him. I also know Julie is lookin over Rocky right now-being the animal lover that she is. Im not sure if I ever mentioned it before but the way Julie and I became such good friends was because of our mutual love for animals & becuz of my other dog Tucker.(I lost Tucker to congestive heart failure last year) We were scheduled to leave for Cali tonight but everything is on hold right now, and I might not make the trip at all depending on what happens. Thank you everyone..and I hope you understand.

Body for Life Forum Message by healthyme (57 posts) at 12:33 PM: Getting back on track...
I just had an epiphany while brushing my teeth! I've heard so many people say that when you go off track eating wise to forget about it and continue on with your normal meals for the day. Well for some stupid reason this never sank into my head properly! What I usually do is try to restrict the rest of that day's food intake or miss meals. I always end up feeling deprived and so I cave in and blow the whole day eating around 4000cals. This is what happened to me yesterday and so I guess this will be my free day even though it was totally unplanned. When I was brushing my teeth I realized that if I had stopped after my first splurge and gone on to eat my 4 other meals I would have had 1900cals for the day. Now there's a BIG difference between 1900cals and 4000cals!!! Hooray! Finally I UNDERSTAND! YIPPPEE!!! I will definitely be following this advice from now on!!!

We all leave a legacy. Here's a few of Julie Whitt's (taken from tracker): Chip off the old block! “The wisdom of life consists in the elimination of nonessentials.” (Lin Yutang) Think of the sculptor chipping away at a block of marble…his job is to eliminate what is unneeded. The figure inside the block is a vision in the sculptor’s mind just waiting to be released. Aren’t we much the same? Do you have a vision in your mind of what you are sculpting? Hold that vision close! Each day of work slowly chips away the nonessential material. I can’t wait to see myself in the mirror the way I see myself in my mind! Where credit is due You all have written such nice things about me. You say things like, "You're amazing.", etc. I must give credit where credit is due. Trust me on this! There is absolutely nothing amazing about me. I'm just a girl trying to muddle through life the best I can. I mess up everyday. I've always said that I'm the worst BFL'r ever. Now I can say that I'm the worst BFL Champion ever. I'm constantly messing up on the program! What IS amazing is what God has done FOR me. My every breath is a gift from God. Anything good that I do ultimately comes from God. He has worked countless obvious miracles in my life. I wonder how many he has worked that I couldn't even see? The truly amazing thing about me is that God has invested so much time working on me! I appreciate what He's done and I try to live a good life. To God be the Glory.

Thread: Update on Rocky (132 Views)

Body for Life Forum Message by Dana D (486 posts) at 05:18 PM: Update on Rocky
My lil man is off of the oxygen and seems to be pretty stable right now. Xrays came back positive for severe Congestive Heart Disease and the Vet is using meds to control the fluid in his lungs. Tonight will be the real test-so please keep the prayers coming. If he remains stable, without the oxygen machine, for next 18+ hours we will have the "all clear" to drive to CA tomarrow night. Weve already scheduled a EKG and more tests at UCDavis Vet Hospital for Thursday so pray we can make the trip. Thank you for all your love and support...

Thanks again everyone for the prayers and love yall have been sending to Rocky. Me and Blake just got home from visiting him. He's doing OK but I wasnt AT ALL prepared for the IV's, Nitro on his ear and just how sad my Baby looked. It just broke my heart to have to hand him over to the nurse and come home. (Ive only spent a total of 7 nights away from him since the day we adopted him) I have faith in the Lord, and in our Animal Loving Angel Julie to take care of him while he has to spend time away from us. Thanks again-the Prayers are working!!

Thread: What I learned from Julie Whitt (69 Views)

Body for Life Forum Message by GET*HER*DONE (2764 posts) at 05:22 PM: What I learned from Julie Whitt
Yesterday I cried, I cried over a girl I never even met in person, But I knew in my heart.
Julie was an inspiration to many, to me she was an angel.  Her loving ways touched the hearts of so many.  How did she do it? Her tender care for people and life , her courage to continue to believe when all the odds were against her.
Yes, Yesterday I cried over a girl I never even met, but a girl that touched my heart ans soul in so many countless ways.
Today I went to the Gym, I wore my Wonder Julie T-Shirt and I worked out. I dedicated my Workout in Honor Of Julie.
I never really understood exactly what GET MY FREAK ON meant but today as I HIIT my (more then 10's) on Level 17 of the Ellipitcal machine I said to my self " Julie, I've got my Freak on, this one's for you, rest peacefully, I love you, I'll miss you until the day I know I will meet you in Person in Heaven.

Today I realized that I had learned a lesson from Julie,
I learned that, "The Greatest possession you have in life is the 24 hours directly in front of you!

Use you time wisely, Enjoy Life, it only comes around once!

Love Always,
GET*HER*DONE Linda

Linda, That was great and yes, I went to her blog and checked it out, read most of her post and cried for hours but it gave me the strength to get OFF THE COUCH today and complete my CARDIO. I did the first level of Turbo Jam and it was all about Julie.. I asked myself, what would Julie be doing if she was here today,,, WORKING OUT! So off I went,,, I will always remember Julie and the kind words she shared with everyone.. May God Bless her and her family!

I tried to take a NAP because both my son and I have been sick. He got another shot yesterday to help with the Pneunomia and he is doing better, I have just alittle sore throat and cough,,, BUT THAT WASN"T GOING TO KEEP ME DOWN..

After thinking about Julie Whitt and asking myself what would she be doing if she was here with me.. and I didn't even have to wait for the answer,, I GOT UP.. moved the furniture and put in the First Turbo Jam Tape,,

VERY COOL WORKOUT! I dedicate to Julie Whitt and her ever loving spirit!  She will have a permanent impact on my life! Thank-you and May God Bless You!

It was actually my baby boy, been sick for weeks, first was a head cold, snot everywhere, everytime he sneezed, and we thought it went away, then it went to full blown pneumonia and having some spots on his lungs... We had to zap it quick or this baby would be hooked up to wires and tubes... I got whatever the adult version was. Tired of sitting on the couch waiting to get better, so I did the 20 min workout, tomorrow I will do the 45 minute one after I finish 2 CLEP exams.

I am starting my next challenge (I've lost track of the number, but let's call it C4 AGAIN) on January 2nd, and I am dedicating it to Julie Whitt, as I know a lot of you are. I've fallen and I can't get up! lol. Seriously, I was on a roll, eating clean, good workouts, feeling great, seeing my bf slowly creeping down... but the past 3 days have been really tough, and the office people are not helping one little bit! Cookies, candy, bagels and cream cheese everywhere! For some reason I just can't seem to turn a blind eye to it like I usually do! Doesn't help that they like to make the "junk" table 3ft to my right. I've moved everything twice now, and got chewed out both times for making everyone else walk further! And my comment was, "good, you all SHOULD walk further!" To which I got the evil eye from my boss. My workouts are still good, but I don't know if I can get the eating back to being clean until after Christmas. What happened? I had no trouble with Thanksgiving, but Christmas has me beat! Jennifer

Body for Life Forum Message by J-Dub (25 posts) at 09:29 PM:
Well, you're not alone. There haven't been any treats at work, and I've been bummed about that! LOL That's how bad I've gotten. I eat clean for most of the day but when afternoon hits all I want is sugar. And fat. I'm going to continue to do my best through Christmas, and I come back from Cincinnati on the 28th, fairly late, so I'll go grocery shopping on the 29th and get back on track before my January 2 restart.

Body for Life Forum Message by Bflmom2004 (997 posts) at 09:34 PM:

Yes, I'm definitely in on the upcoming challenge, but I haven't given up on this one yet! I won't be able to start with the rest of you because I'm just finishing up week 8 of C2, and want to see it out. Its times like this that I am so glad I dont work in a big office any more. Ive found it helps to think of the food in calories during tough situations. Like telling yourself- is that 100 calorie cookie worth it? Sometimes it is just to get it out of your system sometimes it isnt worth it. Try and keep yourself in check but dont tear yourself up over it. Good luck to you-it must be so hard having it so close by all day!! Ugh!

I like using little rewards myself. Just make sure they aren't food based. ;) The key thing is not getting into the reboot mentality. Don't buy into the idea that you can restart this challenge at any point. There are very, very few reasons to reboot. Hold on for the 12 weeks. Do whatever it takes. Remember that you can slip huge during those weeks and still see progress. You don't have to nail this in one.

Thread: Going to Win in Life (80 Views)

Body for Life Forum Message by angelic4077 (2 posts) at 03:27 PM: Going to Win in Life
Well, I am new to this BFL thing, but all of you have made it sound great to belong to this group. I currently weigh 252 pounds and have struggled with weight issues all of my life, but that is going to change, now!! I will see 185 pounds again...that is a huge thing for me considering I haven't saw that weight in almost 10 years. I have decided that I am going to win at life though and make use of every day that I am blessed to love. I am going through all sorts of things in life now, bankruptcy, seperated from my husband, job hunting and I figure now is as good time as any to change my eating habits since every thing else is changing. Any encouraging words from you all would be greatly appreciated... feel free to email encouragement also. My first challenge for myself is to drop off 25 pounds by March 31st. A very attainable goal in my opinion.

Body for Life Forum Message by Agent 69 (315 posts) at 03:30 PM:
a very attainable goal in my opinion as well. the advice I can give you is; weigh yourself absolutly no more than once per week (it an addiction); buy yourself a fabric tape measure (it will be your true friend...it won't lie like the scale will). 1 day at a time, 1 inch at a time, 1 pound at a time....that's how you gained it and that's how you'll loose it. you can do it, and we're all here for you!

Body for Life Forum Message by rbsamy (333 posts) at 03:31 PM:
welcome to BFL and tracker. I am sorry to hear of all your current struggles. BFL will help you make your transformation for emotionally and physically. BEst of luck and enjoy your journey!

I think I have finally realized that this I have control over. It is great to know no matter what else is going on, I can care for myself. Welcome to the BFL family.

Well day 1 of this journey went Ok. I got a little depressed when I realized that I couldnt even do a simple push up, but what can I expect after abusing this body for 27 years. I did manage to drink a whole gallon jug of water today... I am floating in water tonight. I plan on walking for 45 minutes tomorrow and just gradually work up to major exercise. I am also hiding my scales tomorrow at my mom's house... I have weighed at least 12 times today...it is definitely an addiction. Thank all of you who have offered encouraging words. I look forward to being part of this family.

ohhhhhh, that sounds so good. thanks for the suggestion

I agree brilliant. Question, will the hot water mess up the mixture on a molecular level. Not trying to seem like a dweeb but this stuff's expensive and I wouldn't want to ruin the nutritional aspect. Just wondering but still a great idea. Maybe you could add some fat free cool whip.

Body for Life Forum Message by snowboardingfairy (155 posts) at 05:23 PM:
ocpanther-LOL that was the first thing I thought of too! While I was drinking it, I had to keep stirring b/c it looked like it was seperating. I was thinking "is my protein breaking down" it turned into a shot of hot chocolate :)

Body for Life Forum Message by ashtrash (334 posts) at 06:02 PM:
isn't it like really thick? Or do you just add a lot of hot water (which would make a BIG hot chocolate)? I can't imagine making it without ice - does it really work?

Ignore function not working here either. I seem to only be able to ignore one person...can't do multiple ignores. Anyone out there with more than one person on ignore? Webmaster, you advised us in the past to use the ignore function. It would be nice if it could work for more than just one person.

Body for Life Forum Message by Agent 69 (315 posts) at 03:21 PM:
I have a few people on ignore....no problems with mine, seems to be working just fine.
