I neglected abs also on my first challenge and regret it now. I saw good progress everywhere but my abs and one of my goals was to get a six pack. I know they are important, but hate to do them

I LOVE ABS!!! I think it's cause that is where I see a difference. I guess whatever you notice a difference in is what you like. I like upper body too, I used to love LBWO but since I have upped my weights it's not as fun. Lori

From the calculations I did a few years back you would have to drink 15 litres of water in a day to get Hyponatremia. (There's another number for amount of water in an hour but I din't remember it - I just know it was LOT). lol bella - I hear ya - everywhere you turn there's some conflicting info being posted in the news.

That's such a cute story :-) and read after I posted my thread about being addicted to more cardio, ugh now you have me thinking too. Question, was your hubby a runner before or do any endurance sport? It's so hard to reduce cardio when you are used to only hours of it giving you results. I wish him the best of luck, may he build pounds of muscle!!

Body for Life Forum Message by T~N~T (923 posts) at 08:57 AM:
He was a cyclist. So basically the same as a long distance runner. Yup, it took a year of telling him you can't do butt loads of cardio and gain muscle at least not with his body type.

Body for Life Forum Message by sas (43 posts) at 09:14 AM:
I think endurance cardio can be such an addiction. Sticking to my promise of 20 minutes today was so hard. Though I really pushed myself, an hr later it feels like I could do it again.. but I wont... Mentally though it feels like I didn't do enough. It's really a paradigm shift, once he understands that... as I trying to, he will see it's a totally different way to work out.

Body for Life Forum Message by Myintencity (17 posts) at 08:47 PM:
I don't know. All I know is freshly extracted juice goes directly to your cells. It was more than I could handle. I've had mild episodes since then. Usually when I drink pungent combos like mustard greens, spinach and garlic. Those dark greens are killer-too much too fast. It doesn't happen with every combination. For instance, I can drink carrot/celery combos or cucumber/pear/or apple combos and I may get a little flush, but that's it. If I'm really thirsty I can drink a quart of basically any fruit combo at a time. Last thing; There is nothing like the feeling you get when you drink fresh real juice. I'm not referring to some abstract zen like state. My cells literally feel stimulated as I drink they seam to be saying "THANK YOU." You know how people say that if you're feeling thirsty, you're already becoming dehydrated, It's like my cells were starving for this stuff.

Thread: Cliff Bars (157 Views)

Body for Life Forum Message by sas (43 posts) at 09:22 AM:
Everything that I have read is that these bars are basically a different way to market CANDY, pump in protein and you have a whole new audience :-( Real food is the best snack. I cook up a bunch of chicken strips on Sunday so I have protein to snack on during the week. Just a thought :-)

Body for Life Forum Message by Miranda_ (2 posts) at 04:32 PM:
I use to eat them all the time before and during marathons and triathlons. Great source of carbs during endurance sports, but I don't recommend eating them as a snack unless your eating about 45 mins before a ½ marathon or any other sport that requires endurance for more than 1.5 hours in length. Remember these bars are made for endurance athletes as source of carbs that are quickly absorbed by the body.

But here I am about 1hr later, feeling like I could have done more. Not going to do it :-) We'll see how it goes, going to try to stick to it for these next 2 weeks and post wk 8 photos... :-) thanks for the support!!

How do you measure your hips properly? Under the hip bone or around the largest part of the buttocks????

Body for Life Forum Message by justdoit (236 posts) at 08:08 AM:
I don't know exactly but I usr the rule of wherever you measure the first time - measure every time. Sorry I can't be more specific.

Body for Life Forum Message by iceskater (322 posts) at 08:16 AM:
This is a common question that we all ask. :) I was told to measure around the widest part, which includes the butt. Here's a great link: http://www.bblex.de/en/calc/navy.php I record both but count around the butt as "official" one, which helps me to stay accountable. Hope this helps.

Body for Life Forum Message by PartTimeMom (685 posts) at 05:44 PM:
I agree with what justdoit said. Pick a spot that you can easily duplicate so that your measurements are in the same spot every time. That's why I measure at my hipbones. My 'fat' might shift but my hipbones are always going to be in the same spot ;)

Thread: Stevia instead of Splenda (57 Views)

Body for Life Forum Message by sas (43 posts) at 03:29 PM: Stevia instead of Splenda
I have read many posts where people are using Splenda. Recently I had a terrible reaction to Splenda, couldn't breath and my face became beet red almost as if it was burned after drinking green tea with splenda. So, I started doing some research and found that Splenda isn't all it's cracked up to be. http://www.splendaexposed.com/ http://www.mercola.com/2003/aug/23/splenda.htm Ultimately you have to make up your own mind on what works for you, but just wanted to pass on the info to anyone who is interested. The alternative that I have found is Stevia. http://www.stevia.com/ In the powder form it tastes good with tea and or coffee and naturally contains fiber. Hope this is helpful.

Body for Life Forum Message by Reagiesmom (338 posts) at 04:27 PM:
I have tried Stevia in my coffee. It is very good.

Body for Life Forum Message by Hkrchic (9 posts) at 09:10 PM:
I have been using Stevia now for some time and love the stuff. I like adding it my my oatmeal in the morning with a few nuts to give it a sweeter taste. If you have a Whole foods in your area, I noticed this last week that they have their own brand of stevia now that is $7.99 for 100 packets. They are great on the go! :)

Thread: Chest injury?? (71 Views)

Body for Life Forum Message by Reagiesmom (338 posts) at 03:39 PM: Chest injury??
Just wondered if this has happened to anyone else... it is not the first time it happened to me.... I have a pain that feels like it is between my rib cage and breast on the left side of my chest. It gets worse when I move certain ways, and goes away when I sit still. I do not have it when I run and I dont have any heart related symptoms like dizzyness or short of breath. Just to be sure, though I have had a whole battery of tests from EKG to stress test and ecocardiogram last time this happened to me. They all came out negative, so my doc says it must be a weight lifting injury. What worries me is that I can't remember when I did it... I dont feel that I over strained myself at any point and didnt have any unusual pain during any of my workouts. Has this happened to anyone else? It would make me feel a lot better if it has.... Thanks for any thoughts..... :) Kelli

Body for Life Forum Message by SportyGirl (78 posts) at 04:11 PM:
Kelli does this just affect you occasionally? Is it a sharp pain, kind of where you'd get the "stitch" on the left if running? If so, I've had this several times this year. One time it was quite severe. IF we are getting the same thing, mine appears to be brought on by stress (I'm talking about emotional not physical stress) and anxiety. The doctor also thinks stress, and has listened to my heart and doesn't think there's any probs with it. I haven't had any suggestion of a weight lifting injury. The only thing that helps me is to stop moving, take slow shallow breaths, and try to relax. I'm not sure if this experience is similar to yours or not, or whether this helps. Feel free to PM me if you like. I hope you find the reason for your pain and that it gets sorted out for you. Donna

Body for Life Forum Message by SweetEmotion (1094 posts) at 04:12 PM:
Did you pull a rib? I used to do that and found out that it was from lifting my then two year old. Terrible pain. Lori

Body for Life Forum Message by Reagiesmom (338 posts) at 04:19 PM:
Hmmm....Lori I have a 25 lb 16 month old who I always hold on my left hip- of course supporting her body with my left arm.... how was your pulled rib diagnosed.... and how did you treat it? And Donna I have had anxiety problems in the past so it could be that, too. I am taking it easy this week and hoping it goes away.... don't have insurance right now so since it doesn't seem life-threatening I hesitate to spend the $$ on a Dr. appt....

we i run i get that sometimes --i think it a muscle around the rib cage---i work around it and it works it self out

Body for Life Forum Message by PartTimeMom (685 posts) at 05:34 PM:
The connective tissue between your ribs and breastbone is made of cartilage. This can be bruised. Mine got brused once just by someone giving me a bear hug. It takes a while for this to go away as the blood flow to/through cartilage isn't very good. I could be something like that it will just take time to heal.

Body for Life Forum Message by SweetEmotion (1094 posts) at 05:40 PM:
Does it hurt all the time or just when aggrivated? My pulled rib hurt when I breathed, which would be all the time. :) If it's just now and then maybe it's an aggrivated muscle or soemthing. Lori

Body for Life Forum Message by Reagiesmom (338 posts) at 09:51 PM:
It is every time I breathe in... so it is not a constant pain like a heart attack would be (Im told) but it is caused by movement like breathing or twisting.

Body for Life Forum Message by snowboardingfairy (178 posts) at 09:06 AM: Shelf life of supplements??
So I was cruising craigs list and noticed that someone in my area had 13 unopened bottles of eas products (betagen, phoshagen, creatine, myoplex, etc) he is willing to sell all of it for $80.00 (was asking $100.00) apperantly he had purchased all this stuff a year ago and shortly after seriously injured himself. It was in a box in his closet for a year unopened, do supplements have a short shelf life, or do you think they should be fine? Thanks:)

DELL dependable, Yeah right? I was on the phone with them for 2 hours last night trying to fix my computer.  Software issues,, something has pissed off my hard drive and now I can't load WINDOWS XP.. can't check e-mail, can't YAHOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!

I am just aggravated, gave that guy that answered the phone a piece of my mind,, paid $3000 for this laptop and I have had to call them 3 times this year and I even bought the extended warranty,, but you know it doesn't cover software problems... Darn it, had to pay $100 just to speak to a tech... one day after Christmas, don't they know this single mother is BROKE!!!!!!!!!!! lol

I just hope they can fix it, suppose to call me this morning at 10:00 so I can load all my programs back on it,,, School starts on 9 January and I can't afford to get behind.....

:(     Another test? I am tested out!

did they give you the way to get into your system through the back door? They had to do that with mine, takes it back to the day you bought it. There is a "photo" of your system stored in your computer, but you will loose all your data, so you have to back that up first.

ME!!!! I'm pregnant! We found out on Christmas Day!

I was sick on that day (all day long!) and I had a feeling that it was "more" then a stomach virus (although I did have a virus! Yuck!) ...sent my husband to the grocery store to pick up two pregnancy tests and both came out positive....very faint lines but still means POSITIVE!

So, I will be a mommy in 2006 and will be a “competing” mommy in 2007! That’s when I’ll be able to compete back to back in multiple different Figure Competitions since my goal of having two kids will be fulfilled!

Surely hope everyone had a great Christmas and wish everyone a very Happy New Year!

what was the best/worst gift you received this Christmas?

For me:

the worst-----ugly grey house shoes that don't fit.

the best------my husband gave me a "promise box" that had a book listing all the things he was promisgin me (I GOT  IT  IN  WRITING) with a proposal to marry me again on our 25th anniversary (July 2006).......on a beach "somewhere".

so,  can anyone beat this?

My worst gift was a clothes steamer because apparently my mother in law figures I am the only one who should be doing housework, while my husband got "fun" gifts. My best one was the my husband and I went and got ourselves a digital camera!! Finally!! Rene'

So one of my Christmas presents this year was some kind of bow-flex/york gym thingy that Steve is putting together for me as I type. By the time summer comes if I'm not looking like Mary Elizabeth Lado the contraption goes back to the store!!!!!! Kidding aside, I've got high hopes for myself for the remainder of the winter - I've put on some good muscle and its a damn shame that its covered in some winter fat. Not quite sure what my game plan is of yet to rid myself of the outer layer but I know I want to work hard and really THIS TIME FOR SURE concentrate on my eating!!!!! Back to my Mary Elizabeth - I feel like a pubescent boy with his Daddy's Playboy magazine looking at her.......mmmmmmmm, yes I want her body, mmmmmmmmmm. Do you blame me?

I was watching the TODAY Show this morning and they mentioned the #1 New Year's Resolution... "to lose weight".  That seems to be the one I always chose, too.  Every year I'd try to find the next best program to start.  Well... it's a first!! This is the first year I don't have to worry about that resolution or finding a good program.  So, I guess I'll have to find another resolution! Ha!

Has anyone else had this revelation yet?

Body for Life Forum Message by cerdes (21 posts) at 10:06 PM: Eating at Work
Anyone else out there work 70+ hour weeks in an office and can give me some tips? Lately I've been eating things like chicken and avocado sandwiches (wholegrain of course) from a deli at lunch. I eat yoghurt with cottage cheese a lot, and tuna on toast in the mornings. Does anyone out there have good ideas for very very quick, non fussy meals I can eat at the office during the day? We have a microwave and a toaster :) I have dinner at the office too so am receptive to easy as dinner suggestions. I'm kinda getting bored of the old yoghurt and cottage cheese combo, great as it is. Oh, am doing the Myoplex too. I think it tastes like poo, but I'm drinking the stuff!! By the way, thought I'd just mention that I've been reading a lot of posts from people who hold down jobs, raise their kids, and do BFL at the same time! You guys are AMAZING!! Any time I get down about my long hours, I just think about you and how I sure as hell should be able to do it too, WITHOUT feeling sorry for myself!! :)

Body for Life Forum Message by tinkerbell (317 posts) at 10:24 PM:
I love Carole's protein bars. They are really tasty, very easy to make and a fraction of the cost of store bought ones. Here is the link: http://caroleingram.blogspot.com/2005/11/homemade-yummy-protein-bar.html I have eaten these 3X a day when I'm busy. I would also try cooking in advance on the weekends maybe and freezing portions for you to take to work. If you have the EFL book, there are dozens of recipes in there which you could make in advance and freeze or keep on hand. I have frozen the chili and chicken noodle soup. I also have a great turkey lasagna recipe that freezes well. The key to staying on track is planning. Good luck!

Body for Life Forum Message by SweetEmotion (1094 posts) at 10:37 PM:
Wow, your meals sound exactly like mine. Same old stuff every day. I hope you get some good tips, I'll be waiting. Lori

Body for Life Forum Message by helpdial911 (13 posts) at 10:51 PM:
Ready to drink shakes, or if you only have the powder, just make an entire pitcher of shake and take three of them with you to work. Cottage Cheese and yogurt is a good snack. Like tinkerbell said, just plan ahead and make your meals in advance. It takes a little bit of planning and organization but after you do it for a couple of weeks it will be second nature for you. Good luck!!

Thread: Cardio Question (42 Views)

Body for Life Forum Message by Greg_H (15 posts) at 05:47 PM: Cardio Question
My question to everyone is: Is HIIT cardio that much better than a good, long, steady cardio session, or is it just more time efficient? The reason I ask this is because one goal I have for 2006 is to ride from my house, to my parents house on my bike, a ride of about 130 miles if I figured it right. To do this will obviously require a ton of time riding my bike every week and this is what I planned to do for my cardio workouts. Right now I won't be riding for much more than 45 min. to an hour outside (kinda cold in MI right now) so until my saddle time increases I thought I should mabye throw in some HIIT in the morning on days that I'll be riding. Once rides are getting to be 90 min. or more, that is the only cardio I plan on doing. What does everybody else think? Thanks.

Body for Life Forum Message by tcstone (586 posts) at 07:37 PM:
Depends on what you are doing. Bill Phillips has set forth a plan that is meant to "transform" your body. The cardio is meant to constantly challenge your body to continually acheive more. I don't think that 90 mins of cardio is "bad" especially when you are training for an event that is going to take you longer. However, I don't think you would be following the BFL plan and may not see the "transformation" results that Bill promises his plan will produce. I believe that you can Eat for Life and you can follow the weight traning. Part of his book is all about planning and keeping a committment. If your goal is to ride your bicycle for that distance, I think you need to do what you need to do to achieve that goal. Some people do their cardio BFL style (HIIT's) and then do their additional cardio. Can you do this? Are you really concerned with the transformation results or the bike goal? Teresa

First and foremost, all of you inspire me!!!!!

The person I want to inspire the most this year is my boyfriend. He is God's precious gift to me!!

Weight wise he only needs to lose about 20-35 pounds, he carries it all in his belly. His eating habits are horrible and he has no exercise in his life. I want to inspire him to be HEALTHY!!! I want to inspire him to make right choices when it comes to food. He's already taken a huge step and cut sodas and all sugary drinks from his diet and lost 10 pounds!!! (yippee for him!!!!) He's such a huge inspiration to me concerning everyday life, so I really want to inspire him and share this part of my life with him!

Most importantly, I want to do it by example, not by words. I want him to see me living this life, not just hear me talk about it.

After I wrote this thread I called my BF and told him, "I have to get on a schedule! If I dont prioritize my life Im going to end up weighing 300 pounds again!!!!" He was so encouraging and said he would support me in anyway needed!!! I came up with a plan, emailed it to him, and all was good. Then, I realized I left out "spiritual time". I didnt leave any time for personal prayer and bible study. So, I met with him later that night and told him I was going to have to steal an hour away from him to get in my prayer and bible study time. He smiled at, gave me a huge hug, and said, "Robin, THIS is why I love you! Because you have your priorities in order!"

I feel so much better now!

Oh yea, I kinda turned down the VP job. I told them I would help out on special events and do what I could but I did not want them to rely on me solely. They agreed!

Funny thing is about following the BFL program is that you seem to create time since you gain so much more energy! I use the Stephen Covey method for planning my week activties. I set out each Sunday the areas of my my life that are important to me (Family, Friends, Personal growth, volunteeing, health etc.) and list out what I want to do in each area and what day I will do it. That way, I know ahead of time what is really important and get that done All the small stuff that comes up can fit around the important things!

Hey, Gary! Did you see that they referred to your favorite baseball stadium as "Comica" park? In a weird way, it's sort of true on some of those Tiger days, huh? Anyway, it made me think of a way to pull yourself out of the funk. Visualize 1984! Not the movie, or the book, but the Tigers! 25 wins out of their first 30 games! Trammell, Whittaker, Gibson, Evans! That was the team--Jack Morris. Attack life like they did!

It not knowing what to do, it's doing what you know. - Anthony Robbins I came accross this one this morning by one of my favorite authors and motivational speakers. Let me ask you this: How many of you could tell anyone pretty much everything about BFL, and you know at your core that if they would just follow what your telling them, that they would see massive positive results in their body. However, we often find that we can't get ourselves to apply the same knowledge on a consistant basis. Enjoy! Brian

Thread: Go to Health!!! (116 Views)

Body for Life Forum Message by BIG BULL (794 posts) at 09:49 AM: Go to Health!!!
YOU can Go to Health or Go to.........in 2006!  I remember vividly when I stumbled across the Body of Work Video as I was cleaning my office at home a year ago.  It was still in its wrapper.  I can't even remember how we acquired it, but this time I was determined to sit down and watch it.  Bill made a statement that I will never forget and it went something like....you are either gaining muscle and losing fat or you are doing the opposite.  YOU CAN'T BE NEUTRAL...you are moving in one direction or the other.  I bought in and chose LIFE.  It has made all the difference.

Where are you "going to GO" this year?  Better yet...what is it that causes you to choose the opposite of the best, healthiest you?  Figure that out....identify it...corner it.....stymie it......apprehend it.....control it.....master it......Never let "it" master you again!

For me it is "depression"....that is hard to admit.  I know it lurks and tries to catch me wtih my guard down.  I know it is what caused me to fall of the wagon the past two months.  I know I have learned to master it and have the proper help to beat it, control it and overcome it.

2006 promises great challenges and great accomplishment....Where are you "going to GO" this year???  What is "it" that you must face and conquer as you climb your MOUNTAIN???

BIG BULL prepping for the climb!

Good for you Jeremy! I would like to increase my distance with my running in memory of Julie. She so badly wanted to be able to run. She always told me after she got her new lungs, she was going to be able to run like she always wanted to. This lady did not have "can't" in her vocabulary.

Why doesn't everyone pick something to focus on in their challenge in memory of Julie. It's hard for me to believe she is gone, but I think this is wonderful, we will keep her memory alive. The torch challenge should be an annual event.

I am well aware of the omissions of BFL on Oprah. I have a whole thread discussing it on the message board of www.BodyforLIFEcruise.com & www.JerryBraam.com if you need more info. That is the platform for my goal! To saturate the producers of Harpo Productions with thousands of BFL Success Stories. Tens of thousands from around the globe. They can't ignore Body-for-LIFE forever. So lets complete our Challenges, reach our new goals & send our photos so we can share the truth about what is really transforming our world into a more positive place. Isn't that what Oprah says? I dont know if this is typical but i can not stand doing cardio. i have yet to figure out if its the actual exercise or the feeling i am going to pass out at the end of it. As result i am only damaging my program, missed about 30% of my cardio. its not like i dont have the time, after all i am in the middle of nowhere (Alert Canada) and have the time. just motivtion i guess. Its a lazy thing, as i do procrastinate by nature. Well not having ever posted and being new,, thought i would just let all that out. Have been reading lots of post and am amazed what all you folks have done. Nice to see regular folk make amazing changes. Keeps one thinking its possible. Any how thanks for a place to vent. happy new year all john ..

Body for Life Forum Message by Reagiesmom (338 posts) at 05:36 PM:
Hey John.... Even though I love running I sometimes get really bored.... Have you tried listening to your favorite music or watching TV at your gym? I get my long run in every Sunday watching the NFL game I am most interested in... Or, try a different machine or different kind of exercise... If all else fails, just think, "all I have to do is 5 minutes.... and if it's that bad, I'll stop. I have tricked myself many ways by telling myself this.... and I never have stopped before 20 min. Finally...If it's the way you feel.... tone it down just a bit, even if it means you dont QUITE hit a "10" Lower quality cardio is better than NO CARDIO AT ALL. Hope that is helpful. :) Kelli

Body for Life Forum Message by snowboardingfairy (178 posts) at 06:03 PM:
John, I can't stand cardio either, never have, and highly doubt I ever will. Having said that I too "trick" myself as Reagiesmom said. Once I get going I just keep thinking why stop, only 15 min left. What I found to help me is to stamper out of bed and right onto my eliptical, before I find anything that could possibly distract me. Once my day starts, so do my excuses, so I try to get it out of the way 1st thing. Good Luck- your not alone:)

Body for Life Forum Message by brandy (3 posts) at 08:00 PM:
John, I count down the number of times I have to hit that level. After the first level 9, I tell myself only three more times and so on. It makes it go by faster. I also do my cardio first thing in the morning and listen to loud music. I used to be scared of doing the cardio because it was so tough but once I got used to the intensity I look forward to hitting my 10. Good luck.

Body for Life Forum Message by Hot Body (427 posts) at 08:06 PM:
I never really liked cardio, either. What I do is envision people in front of my treadmill cheering me on - Monica Brandt one day, Bill Phillips the next, everyone on Tracker the next. Or sometimes I pretend I AM Monica - she wouldn't quit or whine - she'd just look really fantastic doing her sprints. Basically, whatever it takes to DO IT!

Body for Life Forum Message by helpdial911 (13 posts) at 08:11 PM:
cardio is not fun. Like hot body said, picture results as you run. 20 minutes isn't even a sitcom. Also, it is only about 5-6 of your favorite songs. I put it off in my first challenge, but this second one I am going strickly by the book.

Body for Life Forum Message by cerdes (21 posts) at 08:51 PM:
Yes i do what helpdial911 does. I set up five songs on my iPod and say "alright I get to listen to five of my favourite songs!"... I also think of myself lounging around in a bikini somewhere with gorgeous men fawning over me..... doo dee doo...

Body for Life Forum Message by Gtnskinee (4 posts) at 09:19 PM:
John, I found that if I do my cardio as soon as I get up, it really helps because I can move on with my day and not have to think about it anymore. If I put it off, I keep making excuses and then it's night and I still have to do it. IT'S REALLY TORTURE THEN!!!! I also agree with Bill Phillips that it seems to burn more fat first thing in the morning before you eat anything.

I finally got in to see the doc today and had the infection confirmed so I got my rx for antibiotics. I hope you can get an answer to your illness and get feeling well quickly!!! Sickness sucks. Especially when you're craving health and fitness!!!! ~Ang

Thread: I'm BAAACCCKKK!! Back on Track...er (90 Views)

Body for Life Forum Message by Hot Body (427 posts) at 07:40 PM: I'm BAAACCCKKK!! Back on Track...er
So, after a successful finish of my first complete 12-week Challenge, I decided I'd give myself one week of rest before kicking it back into gear again.  That was three months - and, sad to say, many pizzas and cookies - ago.  It took a while for all that fat to catch up, but just last week I couldn't fit into my new smaller sized jeans. Yowza!

Just when I was finishing the Challenge, things at work started to go sour.  The head of my organization hadn't been paying attention to the financials, and one day in September we were all shocked to learn that we didn't have enough in the bank to carry us through another full month.  So the Board laid off 6 people (out of 12 of us) immediately - no notice, no severance.  It was truly heart- and gut-wrenching.  They asked me to stay, but I did not want to hang around in such an uncertain environment.  I quickly got to work taking people in my network out to lunch and so very fortunately, landed a great new job in record time.  The transition was a bit bumpy and unsettling, and I just couldn't figure out a way to re-focus on BFL.  Now with a new schedule (no more constant late nights at the office!) and membership in a BRAND NEW gym (can you say Individual Flat Screens at every cardio machine?), I'm raring to go!!

[I realize many of you don't remember me...or don't even know me since you joined after I sorta dropped off.  That's okay.  I'm feeling like a new person anyway!!]

I'm starting a new Challenge on January 2nd (with so many other of you Tracker buds)!  Let's DO IT!!

Hot Body I am Kenny and I wasn't around when you were here last, but I am now. You had a great transformation before, and it will make this challenge a bit easier. That means that you have to work that much harder to balance it out(if that makes sense). We have had so many pizzas and cookies between challenges... so we have had enough to last us for years. Mentally get ready so you can hit the ground running. GO get it!!! Kenny

Got the flu the day before Christmas Eve and felt lousy through the whole holiday. Only good thing about it was I didn't feel like eating anything. I think it was God's way of saving me from myself :o)lol. I only missed one workout so I feel pretty good about that. It seems like a lot of trackers were sick this weekend. Hope everybody is feeling better!

Body for Life Forum Message by helpdial911 (13 posts) at 09:43 PM:
From what the news has been saying, a lot of us might be feeling the same way you felt over Christmas in the next couple weeks. This "California Flu" that is spreading across the Western States could have a lot of us down for the count soon.

Thread: Better to miss cardio or weights? (33 Views)

Helloo! I've been very bad the last week over Christmas. Strangely though, I'm not beating myself up about it like every other xmas. I'm just completely committed to living the BFL way for the rest of my life, there just seems little sense in getting depressed over one week of indulgence. It's kind of liberating! Anyway, my question is - if you really have to miss a workout, what will impede weight loss the most? Cardio or weights? Or is this just a silly question?

Body for Life Forum Message by chuckdiesel99 (810 posts) at 11:04 PM:
Well, they are both very important in their own way but if I had to make a choice I'd say cardio is more important for weight loss.

Thread: colon cleansing? (267 Views)

Body for Life Forum Message by missylab (2 posts) at 06:21 AM: Re: colon cleansing?
I am a registered nurse and I do know that colon cleansing can deplete you of essential electrolytes. Essential for muscle health (your heart being one of them), and so on. I think that colon cleansing is the most rediculous thing that I have ever heard. Unless you are under supervision from a doctor, such as in preperation for colon visulation, I would stay clear of that practice.

Hey Everyone, I use 2 products by Advocare that are amazing. If you go to www.advocare.com and click the 'do you know a member' button and put in member number 0501682 you can go to the 'store' and look under the wellness line for 1) probiotic restore and 2) the herbal cleanse. You can do the cleanse every 3 months but you can use restore everyday. I use it and it really helps! i work for Doctors and have some that use restore.

Okay, I have a suggstion if you want an at home cleansing. Although, I'm only 25 I have had a conlonoscopy, which you have to totally have your insides cleaned before they check you out. Anyways, my doc just told me to buy this product called "Fleet" from my local grocery store. The title of that product definitely tells what it does. I had to take the stuff like, every 30 minutes for 2 hours, or something like that. You're not allowed to eat for 24 hours, other than chicken broth. Anyways, it gets to a point when you go to the bathroom to do a #2, your #2 looks like your #1. I know it's TMI, but that's the truth. There ya go. An at home cleansing. :)

If you dont want something so hard to do get the product called HerbLax from Shaklee. Take 2 at night before you go to bed. Works like a charm. No cramps, no rushing to the bathroom. Awesome product! Dawn

I don't get it either. Sorry. Being constipated (sp?) is not uncommon and adding fiber to the diet and drinking plenty of water should help. I don't like tinkering with the digestive system. It's a very delicate balance in there and I've never heard of a medical reason for a colon flush other than for better viewing by Dr's.

I know for a fact that one will become temporarily lactose intolerant after a bout of intestinal flu so I suspect the same may happen after a colon blow.

If you're poopin' regularly and it doesn't hurt, be happy.

Take care what you put in the front door and the back door should take care of itself.

Poop (i just wanted to say it again...giggle giggle)

I am new to this but I my understanding is that cleansing the colon and taking a laxative do not achieve the same results at all. The stuff that attaches itself to the colon walls is rotted and has been there for some time. Unlike a laxative, a colon cleans will evacuate some unsightly things. It affects our health in so many ways that, sooner or later, our quality of life will definitely be compromised. Lastly, if we don't rid ourselves of this stuff we're probably going to pay a heavy price. I have no medical background, but pooping regularly can't possibly be the only indication of a healthy colon. Most of our colons are probably in an unhealthy state. I'm going to see my doctor! This is too serious an issue to sweep under the rug ( or flush down the toilet).

Body for Life Forum Message by Miranda_ (2 posts) at 04:18 PM: Challenge No. 1
Hi everyone, I’m starting my first challenge on January 2nd and I’m excited to try it out. I’ve been looking at the BFL website and reading the stories and diet and exercise plan to see if this is something that I can do as a lifestyle; and it looks like I can. I’ve put on weight over the last little while due to a knee injury that knocked me out of marathon season and almost out of triathlon season. So for the first time ever, I discovered comfort food! Oh boy did I ever discover it, hence the figure. I’m seeing the specialist one the 31st and hoping to get the green light to start training again. So that is why I’m waiting till the 2nd to start the program, nope it’s not a New Year’s resolution for me, it’s going to be a life style. I’d love to hear your stories about your first challenge and what I can expect for the first week etc. Miranda

Sports Supplement Review!!! I used it during my very 1st Challenge. I still have 2 copies. One is almost in shreads, repaired with duck tape, like 'one' of my 1st BFL books. Marked with gallons of highlighters. But the other is kept in collector's condition! I feel a very valuable piece of fitness supplement literature! FYI... You can occasionaly find one on eBay JBraam

I recently received the Sports Nutrition Review, I guess that is the same? Awesome book, and I have heard you can get it on ebay too(and you should if you find it) , why would anyone get rid of it?? Anyway, I heard Bill had to get out of EAS/BFL because he was just tired. Porter told me that he was turning shades of green, and just had too much on his plate. I don't think it was as much of a buisness decision as much as it was in the best intrest of us and him. He thought the company could be run better by allowing a company to own it and his old employees/friends run it. Bill is looking out for us, and when the right times comes, HE WILL BE BACK! Kenny
