Ooogie. I started a "2006 is Our Year" thread before seeing this one. That's what I get for not being a regular Tracker! Sorry, T!!
Anyway - on the other thread, my goals were:
#1 Slip below 120 pounds
#2 Celebrate my 40th birthday feeling my healthiest (and sexiest) ever
#3 Wear a red bikini on the cruise
Body for Life Forum Message by Agent 69 (443 posts) at 01:08 PM

Great posts bring great responses!
Teresa - excellent, excellent, excellent! Your 3 are great - what I always say "when in doubt, copy someone else".
I'm going with your 3, they're excellent goals and quite honestly if I achieved those 3 I would be ecstatic. So let me put it this way:
Goals for 2006:
1) I would like to achieve all that I did not in 2005
2) To see 10% Body fat for the first time in my life!
3) I would like my body to look like a human anatomy class figure. Female form of course LOL.
Now........to do it!

Heres what I want in 2006:
1: less than 17% body fat
2: Vsible abs
3: Fit this booty into a pair of sassy size 5 jeans
I'm doin' it, ooooh yeah!!

Lori, I know what you mean about chicken. You have to get creative to pysch yourself out .. lol.
Try this ... an authorized pizza .. .with chicken, no less.
whole wheat pizza crust (very easy to make your own)
A "no sugar added" pizza/marinara sauce.
Fresh veggies, chopped. (I use green pepper, mushrooms, black olives, and red onion)
A couple grilled chicken breasts, chopped or shredded.
Fat Free mozarella & cheddar cheese.
Body for Life Forum Message by Agent 69 (443 posts) at 07:16 AM
Venison is also a good protein.
I use it in stews, soups, etc.
But, I have to admit, I really like Chicken Breast Filets......I must be one of the few.
Body for Life Forum Message by Flower (2114 posts) at 07:56 AM
I've cooked up entire containers of egg whites (thats 18); put them in WW tortillas or add them to salads. I've even just downed them plain just to get the protein. They're kinda blah - add salsa or cumin or whatever you like. You can't get much better than straight eggwhites.
Body for Life Forum Message by jeremy (1047 posts) at 08:03 AM
nuts can be used but it is not a complete protein

for a real taste sensation......boil your eggs.....remove the yolk and spoon in some salsa and top with a little fat free shredded mozzarella cheese
if you wanna melt the cheese you can always nuke 'em for a few seconds

Its just a little dress rehearsal for when you turn like 40 - all kinds of mysterious aches & pains that can be attributed to a big fat nothing. So what you do is try to get yourself into shape to alleviate the mystery aches & pains. Sometimes it works, sometimes it makes it worse.
Sorry, couldn't resist. I know......no help but honestly I've had some weird pains with no explanation.

Once you get to the CODE part of the page, scroll down and look for the HTML code. Copy and paste that code into your profile.
Body for Life Forum Message by pk-rn (22 posts) at 02:46 PM
Thank-you Katie....I did that and when I go to look at my profile it shows only a little red x in a box. I right click on it and click on "show picture" but nothing happens. Any other suggestions?

I looked at some of the others and it looks like they are using the ezCODE. I think. Maybe try that one instead of the HTML code.

Congratulations!
My wife got her BSN back in '01 and currently works as a Labor & Delivery nurse and is on the High Risk OB Transport Team at her hospital. She is truly loves her job in spite of the “bad” patients, bumpy helicopter rides and hectic pace. One good delivery always makes up for weeks of “bad stuff.”
I am considering nursing as well. If a local university will revive their accelerated BSN program (12 months to complete if you already have a bachelor's degree), my eventual goal would be to get a MSN degree and become a nurse anesthetist.
Good Luck!!!!

I've been reading the stories and the boards on this and it sickens me. It's hard NOT to pre-judge them based on all of the evidence presented so far...the physical evidence and their actions and statements.
I don't feel sorry for them one bit. I feel sorry for Melissa and her parents. The only "sad" part of this story is that Melissa is dead. And if justice prevails, her killer(s) will be dumped into a prison cell forever.

Body for Life Forum Message by T~N~T (972 posts) at 09:04 AM
Yea getting a pedicure really shows the insincerity and how much she does not care about her crime or involvement with the crime. I have a whole new view of Kelly now ........ as a complete monster. Craig is no better.
The many sad aspects of this are that the James family has to find out about there daughters alternate life-style while the public has a field day with it. That and the fact that she was murdered and burned like she was trash. I could go on & on how sick it all is.
Now Tracey you know KR has had way more than Botox, come on don't be so nice. ;-) Go ahead go there she was starting to catch up with Michael Jackson on face surgeries.
Body for Life Forum Message by J-Dub (117 posts) at 10:59 AM
How does this happen to a person? How does it get to the point where you are not only able to kill someone, but that it actually occurs to you to put her body in the trunk of a car and set it on fire? And yeah, the whole pedicure thing boggles my mind. Have these two taken so many drugs that their minds are THAT messed up?

Body for Life Forum Message by Udenia (2113 posts) at 11:16 AM
I think there is a whole lot more going on here, we are finding things out about Melissa, even though she was the victim here, she wasn't innocent, that is a hard one to take for her family, read something else saying that she had stolen before??
It all is just becoming a huge drama that is unfolding right in front of us. I will wait until everything is done and over before I cast judgement, but it doesn't look good for this duo.
May God bless all the families that is being affected by this tragedy, I feel for all of them. I wouldn't want to be in any of their places right now.
Body for Life Forum Message by T~N~T (972 posts) at 11:27 AM
No one in the mess is innocent. Since the whole mess out in the open I can speak of what I already knew. Yes Craig & Kelly were swingers. Yes they were into drugs and lot's of them. Yes they started going down hill. Yes Melissa embezzled money from them. Melissa might have taken there bizarre love triangle a little too far and Craig spending additional time with her at the hotel could have pushed an already out of her mind Kelly Ryan over the edge. Yes it sucks but the one thing is that no matter what Melissa had done being addicted to Meth and a questionable life-style with these 2 she did not deserve to die. She was on her way home the next day.
I agree no one wants to be in either of there places right now. But the fact of the matter Kelly & Craig are known in the industry for there uhhh alternate life-style.
Body for Life Forum Message by T~N~T (972 posts) at 11:34 AM
The other thing I find sad is that all of the people that looked up to Kelly are so let down and it looks bad on an industry that is starting to really make a splash in this world Womens fitness. And I think a lot of stuff that does not need to be exposed will be.
But the fact is they deserve whatever they get for what they did to that poor girl no matter what she did. Someone embezzles money you call the police. You don't kill them.
Body for Life Forum Message by Hot Body (447 posts) at 11:41 AM
It shouldn't have taken a murder to make the "industry" look bad. Didn't anyone start to question its image when people started swinging and doing meth?!? And uh, that's NOT fitness...
Holy smokes, I really had no idea. To achieve greatness in physical form and then to crap it away with (more) drugs is the lowest form of stupid.
Body for Life Forum Message by Hot Body (447 posts) at 11:47 AM
I take that back. Fleeing arrest for murder by driving 3,000 miles across more than a dozen states in a new truck, then stopping for an oil change and a cherry red pedicure...THAT's the lowest form of stupid.
Body for Life Forum Message by T~N~T (972 posts) at 11:48 AM
There are 2 sides to fitness unfortunately the one that always gets exposed is that part. There are really good people in this industry too. They just don't get as much attention.

Honestly, if they are guilty (which I doubt they aren't!) I think they deserve SEVERE punishment for what they did!! If you take a life you should spend the rest of your life in prison!!!
I can't comprehend what drives a person to kill nor do I want to understand it.

Body for Life Forum Message by Agent 69 (443 posts) at 12:38 PM

I don't agree that this impacts the FITNESS world. It affects the world of Pro bodybuilding. Although these folks are "PROs" that doesn't place them on a pedastle of being fit in my book. Steroid users have fantastic physiques however they achieved something impossible to natural bodybuilders or LAW ABIDING CITIZENS. You may think I'm wrong but I have no sympathy for a sport that promotes the illegal use of controlled substances. This is the same reason I don't watch Pro sports..very few athletes are there because of natural abilities
If you investigate the world of bodybuilding even further you'll find behavior like this is not that uncommon. Unless you're elite a top-bodybuilder the sport doesn't pay that much and chasing your dream can bankrupt you. Some of these people prostitute themselves for supplements, drugs or resort to crime.
Put it simply they're false heroes, unless you're in to taking 'roids.

Just a different perspective on the last few post - you know what really pisses me off? These people who are juicing, I really look at them - I MEAN REALLY LOOK AT THEM! While I know whats up, especially the women, they are setting a standard that is unattainable by someone like me. Geez, I'm barely getting protein powder down, no other supplements and I'm looking at these steroid bodies and somehow psychologically I'm striving for it. Its just like looking at huge silicone basketball boobs and thinking you're "inadequate". Sometimes I think the whole world is going stark raving mad!!!
Do you see my logic in that???? These people on roids look like aliens yet they're portrayed in magazines and somehow our brain computes it as a "goal". Work harder, achieve, achieve, achieve. Am I making any sense? It would be much easier in person.
Body for Life Forum Message by Hot Body (447 posts) at 04:35 PM
TOTAL sense. Pick up ANY magazine today, watch ANY ad, and they're selling physical perfection the likes of which 99% of us could never reach. (Unless we, too, had airbrushing as an option.) The perfection-pushing business rakes in LOADS of money because most people are saying "yes, I want to be JUST like that" with their cash.

Flower: OMG SO TRUE!!!! I so agree with you! That is such a great point! I finally got to a place in my life where I liked my itty bitty titty club boobs when all my friends were getting implants and now I want them again cause I know once I reduce my BF I want to look womanly still. LOL but yes when you see that is the ideal to compete against these juiced up people it kinda puts some unrealistic goals for ourselves. Unless you are genetically gifted person.

First of all, Hi to all my buds here on line...I have been out sick (still am sick) but I have a ton of work to do so I will grin and bear it for today! And I hope you all had a great Christmas! I am looking forward to a Wonderful BFL New Year!
So....as far as being the crazy liberated type, over Christmas my daughters and I proposed to my boyfriend....It was the cutest thing! My son was supposed to be a part of it, but as some of you know that just wasn't possible. So the girls and I stood in front of him and his daughter, and I gave my sappy tear jerking speach which made both of us cry, then I went down on one knee and said "Fonz" (thats his name, short for Alfonso - NO LAUGHING) and Kashia (6 year old) went down on her knee and said "will you marry" then Dyani (other 6 year old) went down on her knee and said "my mommy" and held out the ring! He cried and said of course he would! So I am now engaged to be married! It was important that our children be a part of it because its not just about us its about our familes, our children, all of us committing to eachother, loving eachother, for life!
Yeah!!!
Sorry so long!

I'm more curious about HIS ring - did you go for something a little different like an emerald cut or marquis? How about colour - princess pink or canary yellow diamond? Or was it your garden type variety solitaire? How many carats? Is it a sparkler????? LOL
Congratulations!!!!

I picked out my own bands and solitare because I'm a little bit of a control freak:) He may just be nervous about such a large investment without any input from you.
You could give some *hints* and let him take it from there. Many places will allow remounting of a stone on a different band after the fact.

A young Southern boy goes off to college at Auburn, but about1/3 way through the first semester, he has foolishly squandered the money his parents gave him.
Then he gets an idea. He calls his daddy. "Dad," he says, "you won't believe the wonders that modern education is coming up with! Why, they actually have a program here that will teach your dog, Ole Blue, how to talk!"
"That's absolutely amazing!" his father says. "How do I get him in that program?"
"Just send him down here with $1,000," the boy says,"I'll get him into the course."
So, his father sends the dog and the $1,000. About 2/3 way through the next semester, the money runs out again.
The boy calls his father a second time.
"So how's Ole Blue doing, son?" his father asks.
"Awesome, dad, he's talking up a storm," he says, "but you just won't believe this! They've had such good results with this program, that they've implemented a new one to teach the animals how to READ!"
"READ," says his father, "No kidding! What do I have to do to get him in that program?"
"Just send $1,500, I'll get him in the class. "
His father sends the money.
The boy has a problem. At the end of the year, his father will find out that the dog can neither talk nor read. So he shoots the dog.
When he gets home, his father is all excited. "Where's Ole Blue? I just can't wait to see him talk and read something!"
"Dad," the boy says, "I have some grim news. This morning, when I got out of the shower, Ole Blue was in the living room kicking back in the recliner, reading the morning paper, like he usually does. Then he turned to me and asked, 'So, is your daddy still messin' around with that little redhead who lives on Oak Street?'"
The father says, "I hope you SHOT that dang dog before he talks to your Mother!"
"I sure did, Dad!"
"That's my boy."

I got some very good news yesterday. The Chief Engineer at my agency called to inform me that I have passed the Professional Engineer exam!
I have been trying to pass this test for the last 4 years without success. Most recently, I was missing the passing mark by one question. It really sucked to take an 8 hour exam only to miss it by one stinkin’ question. Well I don’t’ have to worry about that anymore. :)
While I do think the review course helped, I also think BFL did wonders as well. As I was moving through my challenges, my self-confidence started to return, my depression slowly faded away, I was more relaxed about things and I no longer felt worthless as a person for not being able to pass this exam and because of my depression.
By passing this, I now have some doors opened to me for other job opportunities before I finally decide if I want to leave this occupation and go to nursing school….
Whew….

I was a Public defender before my daughter was born but quit coz I wanted to be with her. I have since done some misc. legal work for whoever since but really miss my job.
So a friend from law school who is in the same situation convinced me to form a partnership where we would take turns going to jail/court/meetings and watching the kids. Today I went to jail to interview our first client. I am so glad to be back doing something I love while knowing my child is in good hands.... and getting to go home to her after instead of back to the office is great!

The other day, the husband and I were sitting on the couch watching tv. I was eating some ramen noodle salad.
We heard a noise like wood splitting. Then we hit the floor.
The couch buckled! A day later, I started BFL! True story!
Needless to say, there was a lot of finger-pointing going on! ha ha. The couch was only 2 years old; as we threw it out, we realized we forgot to add the middle leg!
Warning! Dont let these two on your couch! http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y299/mya_detroit/us.jpg

I happen to like boiled chicken, always have. To me 40 minutes is way too long. I don't time it, just eyeball it, but would guess maybe 10 to 15 mins and thats with the bone in; boneless I'd do shorter.
Chicken breasts, cooked perfectly - yes even boiled are very very tender & juicy. Overcooked to me they're too dry and if there is actually anything that can save too dry chicken breast it would be full fat mayo or miracle whip made as chicken salad and served on BREAD!!!! Thats how much I hate dry chicken.
As long as they're not pink they're cooked. Even if they are pink, a bit in the micro will fix that.
DO NOT OVERCOOK & SAVE WITH THE MAYO!!!! JUST DON'T DO THAT!
Body for Life Forum Message by georgiawendy (343 posts) at 03:03 PM
OOPS! Thanks flower. I edited my post to say 20 minutes, not 40.

More accuratley pullups for anyone who can't do them yet. :)
I've been solicting advice on the best way to get to the point where I can do one pullup by the end of my upcoming challenge. I know that reducing weight is going to help (less me to lift). I've gotten some great suggestions from folks who I've asked, and decided to see what you guys come up with.
My limitations are this- I have no gym membership. So I have no ultra spiffy counterweighted pullup machine to help me reach my goal. I have a chinup bar, Powerblocks, a step stool, and a Swiss Ball. Any suggestions are welcome.
Body for Life Forum Message by Muscle Head (9 posts) at 09:14 AM
Do "negative" pullups.
You'll need a chair or stool tall enough so that you can start in the up position, with your chin above the bar. Lower yourself down to the traditional starting postion, but, and this is key ..... lower yourself as slowly as possible.
I would advise doing 10 repetitions with 30 seconds rest between each rep, twice per week.
Hope this helps.
Body for Life Forum Message by gbfan (336 posts) at 09:17 AM
I started by hanging just my body weight for as long as I could hold it. That eventually increases. Then, I gave myself a "hop" to get up the first time and then tried to see if I could do the second one on my own. Sometimes, I used a step stool to give myself a slight lift, if I needed one.
Now, I can do 6 chin ups (not pull-ups) by myself... no assistance. Chin-ups are where your palms are facing you... pull-ups are where your palms are facing away from you. Chin-ups use more bicep and arm muscles, pull-ups use more back muscles. Pull-ups are quite a bit harder.
Oh, another thing... the closer your grip, the easier it is, so as you can do them, you can separate your hands farther.
Body for Life Forum Message by michiganmike (193 posts) at 09:43 AM
The negatives that Musclehead suggests will help a lot. Another thing that you can do if you have a willing partner is to have him or her give you an assist lift. You just curl your legs up to a ninety degree angle at the knees, thus giving the partner the ability to push up on your legs to give you the assist you need. I also know of a guy who used the stretchy cords and a lift belt to provide a bit of an assist lift too, though it sounded weird to me!

I hop out of bed every morning and do 50 wide grip. Actually pull-ups are for sissies.
Body for Life Forum Message by T~N~T (972 posts) at 04:00 PM
I have the hardest time with pullups! I always exceeded in everything with the fit tests in school and could never do even one pullup! Still struggling with them. I just don't understand it LOL it is the weirdest thing. I am still trying. If you have an assisted pullup machine in your gym then just do them on there and then just keep decreasing the weight of assistance. Another suggestion. Whoops just saw that no gym membership... ok Muscle Heads suggestion is really good then.
Sometimes I think I am just not destined to ever do a pull up lol..... but it's fun trying to get there.
Body for Life Forum Message by fromfat2firm (24 posts) at 05:04 PM
Another thing you might want to try is get two dining chairs, put them parallel with each other and enough space in between to fit yourself, then lay a mop or broom stick on them against the backs of the chairs. Lay on the floor below the stick, grab it like you would a chin up bar or bench press bar and pull yourself up to the stick, leaving your body in a straight line with only your heels touching the floor. I hope that was a clear enough explanation and that it helps.

If you do to much cardio you can burn lean muscle tissue. On the other hand the right amount of cardio is great for the heart and for appearance. I like the BFL plan of 20 minutes. Remember intensity when weight training and when doing cardio is key. If it were amount of time well than we should all have a goal to workout 24 hours a day. We all know that is ludacris.

Hey J-Dub--
I remember that Jane Fonda audio tape ("make it burn!"). LOL
We used to pig out on lasagne and chocolate cake then get the leotards and leg warmers on!! ROFLMAO
I would listen to people's stories of crossing the abyss, interviews with champions and champions to be (which would mean all of us), a recipe section, practical advice section, motivational music. I think people would benefit from a programme that focuses on say, and UBWO, for the day--you know pointers on how to get the most out of your bench presses for example, stories about people like getting her done Linda vs Hurricane Rita, updates on the contest, on air competitions for BFL goodies, nutritional info like the benefits of broccoli vs a Mars bar (you get the drift).
I'm not sure if this would work for a whole station or if it would be better as a programme syndicated to several stations.
It sounds fun though.
Have a great BFL day!

It's just my opinion.. But it should absolutly be on Television. You couldn't convey the full potential of BFL on radio alone... You need the visual stimulation (as we all did to get started and still do to keep motivated)to completely peek everyone's interrests. I for one, would watch all the time for that motivation and constant helpful training and nutrition information that this program would bring. By the way, if this program does fly... Please let us know so that I can apply for a position because I know this would be a wise career move.

Content ideas:
Interview a ‘newbie’ and track their daily process thru the entire 12-week transformation.
Discussions centering on how to tweak your workouts in order to attain better or more desired results.
Teach people how to set goals and how they can leverage these goals into increasing the impact of their 12-week journey.
Discuss staying focused on goals.
Discussions on what to do when one slides off the wagon… how to forgive one’s self for doing so… and how and why they should get back on.
How to work around one’s physical disabilities or ‘shortfalls’. Many people doing BFL have various other health challenges. A call-in talk show would help them avoid injury caused doing an exercise they should not, etc…
Discuss the impacts of changing the BFL program. What happens if one increases the cardio? If the lift for bigger biceps ever other day?
Discussions about eating six meals a day… drinking water… Impact if one eats only five meals or eats seven. Impact of avoiding one’s free day. How much should one indulge on their free day?
Supplement discussions. What vitamins and minerals do for the body. How do protein, fats, carbs impact muscle production? Should one take a metabolism booster? Which brands of supplements are worth the investment and which are lower quality?
How does one take proper measurements of one’s body… body fat…
Why does my brain hurt when you folks make me think…

It would probably only appeal to those either familiar with the program or following it. After awhile it would probably become a bit mundane hearing the same stuff over & over wouldn't it?
For me it would become once in awhile to less & less. Afterall, if you've heard it all 10 times why listen to the same thing another 10 times. JMO
Body for Life Forum Message by Jitter2001 (51 posts) at 08:37 AM
Again, it's just my opinion, but I believe that this program would never grow old... It wouldn't be like one of the usual health programs that are filled with life long model/body builders that most weightloss programs show to get your business now days.
This program would introduce people like you and me, whom have had weight problems all our life and found a way of life that is not only fun to follow but very addicting too. I can see following actual 12 week transformations that millions of people would tune in to watch happen. Could you imagine how many lifes you could touch with that kind of inspiration and motivation. This is most definitly a concept that WILL work now and long into the future. It wouldn't be the same "Mundane" program because the smiling faces will always keep adding and there will always be people like you and I that will dedicate themselves to have a better life.
And this is just the tip of the iceberg.

Jitter2001 brings up a good point. Bill is working on his Transformation TV series that would follow BFL'ers transformations. There has not been a lot said about it lately, but I believe it may be announced on the new website billphillips.com very soon. Let's hope so at least. I would love to see and hear about such success stories.
The radio idea might appeal to newbies, but I agree it would get old after awhile...the same questions being called in, the same answers, etc. Most people need to *see* the examples.

You know, I think what happened to Muscle Media might be the best barometer as to whether this idea would fly or not. You have to have it supported by advertisers or by public radio time. Muscle Media didn't make it for that very reason. They just couldn't sell enough advertising to make it go. And, the sales on the newstands were very irregular, as subscriptions dropped lower and lower. What happens is that everyone is enthusiastic in January and early February, but after that, until the "oh my God, it's almost bikini time!" rush of mid-May, there's little action again. Face it--most people just aren't as eager about fitness as we are. And if the masses wouldn't pick up or subscribe to a superior magazine like Muscle Media, which delivered the message just like everyone is proposing on this thread, then the masses won't listen to health radio--nor will anyone buy an ad supporting it! IMHO

That's funny I think it's great hearing all of the experts giving advise in the gym. It's hard not to say something. I think it is best to let them think what they want because honestly most will not listen. However, you'll get your laugh when they come up to you in a couple of weeks and ask "Hey what have you been doing!"
Body for Life Forum Message by cerdes (24 posts) at 06:29 PM
Dude, my mum insists on doing the bloody Atkins diet but wonders why she re-gains all the weight so quickly after she starts eating "normally" again.
I have tried everything I possibly can to dissuade her - admittedly I am an ex-atkins fan also, unfortunately I ended up in hospital with severe hypoglycaemia! (am type 1 diabetic) ha ha ha, I laugh now because I was such an IDIOT!
The point is though, there is little you can say to people who are steadfast about their opinion. I just plan to lose a ton of weight, develop some kickarse muscles so I can say "TOLD YOU SO" with a smug smile on my face in 6 weeks :)

Well just doing a little mid week check in. I am back on track on my BFL program. I have dropped 4 of the 5 pounds I put back on over Christmas. This is due in large part to the fact that I have hit the gym everyday this week.
A de-stressor in the form of Maine Coon cat came into my life this week. My daughter wanted a cat for Christmas, and I found a 3 yo cat at petfinder.com from a lady who had raised him from a kitten. She is moving accross country and could not take him. He loves to jump up into my lap and be loved on, and at night he gets into bed and lays on my pillow. Way cool. Anyway, here is looking forward to hitting all those 10's this weekend and getting back to school next week.

Glad you're back on track. And congrats on the new addition to your family. I love cats, one of mine lays on my pillow at night, too. In fact, I just got home from vacation last night, and when I woke up this morning both of my cats were sleeping near my feet on the bed. Made me feel all warm and fuzzy. :)

Oh my golly!!!!!!! January 2nd is almost here and final preparations are being made to hit the ground running come MONDAY! Remember this is the first leg of a new 12 week challenge...IT'S NOT A SPRINT! Lock in and find that pace, that groove that will deliver you to a successful completion of your goals.
Here BIG BULL's THREE Keys to SUCCESS...
EFFORT = A serious attempt or try. NOT half-
hearted!
ATTITUDE = A mental state or position. You decide
where you will set that position each and
every day!
ACHIEVEMENT = The successful completion of a task
or goal. Don't settle for just getting
the job done, rather getting the
JOB DONE WELL!
Approach every workout with an ATTITUDE to give an INTENSE EFFORT and make every lift and every HIIT repetition complete and thorough, maximizing your ACHIEVEMENT!
Throw a new twist into your workouts........We just got a new 15 month old golden retriever that will give me an extra low impact evening cardio workout in addition to my normal workouts! I can't wait to see the effect that has on my results!
BIG BULL out.................

I was going to wait until the 9th to start, but I just can't! I cannot go any longer with this lifestyle, I miss BFL, I need BFL, I want BFL. So, while my challenge officially starts on the 9th I am going to spend the next 10 days experimenting with food and exercise and dusting off my poor neglected weight bench and treadmill. Wish me luck and pray that I stay this motivated!
Smiles. Nikki :) :)

That was the first words that I heard from my girlfriend (now wife) two years ago when she saw me w/o a shirt on for the first time. I had been doing BFL for about 6 months at the time. Since then we have married and I have gone from 183lbs to 208lbs. Needless to say, one big tub of lard. I feel horrible and am starting back on BFL Jan. 1. Just been reading some of you guys' post and I remember when I felt so good. Can't wait to feel that way again. Thanks for the motivation.

I KNOW THE FEELING!! I did my first challenge in 2001 and had great results. Four years later, I could cry when I look in the mirror! Oh well, it's already done so I just have to undo it. Started on Nov 28th so I would have a good jump on the holidays. With four solid weeks under my belt, I didn't want to blow it this week. Things have gone pretty well. Splurged on a few cookies but sent all the candy and goodies out to the garage with my husband so I'm not tempted. :o)
WELCOME BACK!! I think you'll be surprised how fast you will shape back up.

I love this program, and maybe I am just gentically lucky, but this morning while I was getting dressed for work, my wife looked at me and said "Your stomach looks smaller, your arms look bigger and oh by the way you suck!"
I promptley informed her that jealousy will get her no where, but joining me would get her closer to her goals. I almost lost my head with that comment... lol. I guess now that I am boasting I will have to make sure to update my pics this weekend when I do my measurements..

I took one week off between C1 and C2. It lasted three months.
Body for Life Forum Message by Flower (2114 posts) at 04:38 PM
I've posted the same answer to this many times. This is just my answer.
Many people take a week off and all is positive. For me its just a week of stalling progress and in one week, I myself can inflict some serious damage. I see no purpose in it whatsoever. If there's something going on that requires your attention & time for the week - take it. If you're not going to succumb to starch/sugar/fat/cookies/bread/McDonald's/Pizza/cake/alcohol/
starch/sugar/fat/cookies/bread/McDonald's/Pizza/cake/alcohol/
starch/sugar/fat/cookies/bread/McDonald's/Pizza/cake/alcohol/
starch/sugar/fat/cookies/bread/McDonald's/Pizza/cake/alcohol/
starch/sugar/fat/cookies/bread/McDonald's/Pizza/cake/alcohol OVERLOAD like myself - go for it!
Remember, just my opinion.

Body for Life Forum Message by GET*HER*DONE (2833 posts) at 04:40 PM
not really, I stick to it between challenges but not as strick, I give myself a little cheating and workout everyday but not as hard,
but if you go from C1 to C2 to C# and continue to work just as hard all the time you will get burned out, so rest and be a tiny bit lazier just don't quit and then it's easier to stick with it and continue to progress.

I tried taking a week off after C1 and I'm still off. It has been hard for me to pick it back up. I've been on and off since the beginning of November. But I'm not giving up.
I agree with Linda's philosphy of being just a little lazy in between and not taking an all out break. I'll keep it in mind for future reference.

so 2005 is about to end in two days and it has been a major year of twists and turns. for me, broke up with two boyfriends, got back to school, got into debt, and gained and lost a few pounds, so I guess this would be a fitting ending. back in july, I had actually gotten a response from my long time fitness favorite:kelly ryan. Well imagine my surprise when I open a magazine and there she is wanted for murder. I was amazed by her accomplishments and shocked and saddened that what I thought was a strong woman would end up like this, but I am not going to judge.
http://msnbc.msn.com/id/10587415/from/RL.1/
However, I think of two lessons I learned. Never look back into the past, only to remember lessons; second, deal with things as they are. Therefore, farewell 2005, definitely a year of twists and turns (my sympathies to the family of julie witt. I learned she passed away...what a shame, and those affected by katrina). The official 2006 BFL Challenge has a new category: Large Group. "Must work together or be members of the same organization, including a neighborhood, Body-for-LIFE Club, etc. Minimum 5 people. Cash prize equally divided among members, but all members receive jackets and product vouchers. Competitors in this category may also enter as individuals."
Sounds like a Tracker challenge! Who's up for doing this together? We'd ROCK IT!!

Body for Life Forum Message by Buffy-the-FatLayer-Slayer (6 posts) at 07:34 PM
We can do that as a website group, even if we haven't met? That would be cool!
Body for Life Forum Message by Not tryin' to scare folks! (147 posts) at 07:35 PM
I'd be into that, I went to www.bodyforlife.com and could not find the info about that particular category...where can I read about it?
Body for Life Forum Message by Hot Body (447 posts) at 07:38 PM
It's in the download-able packet.
I have NO clue if it would work for a website group, but neither did I read any rules regarding taking a group photo...
And maybe someone is at work RIGHT NOW editing the rules...

I quit coming to this site months ago just because I was mad about something insensitive that someone posted. I only punished myself and have gained about 20 lbs. since then. I am starting (and want to finish for the first time) a new challenge in January. You were all so helpful before so I'm back and yes I'll be using you for support and inspiration. I won't let someone's personal opinions bother me so much again. We are all entitled to our own opinions and if I don't like what one or two people say I can always block them, right?
I am, of course, here to support and encourage any one I possibly can.
Good luck to everyone in 2006.

WOW I am so happy you are back! Don't let anyone stand in the way of your dreams and goals! Esp. some insensitive moron who makes a nasty comment at you. Remember this is for you. And you have many that do support you and your goals! Good luck and keep your chin up!
So you gained 20 right well your gonna loose 30 this next 12 weeks right? ;-) Go for it! Hugs -T

Now it's time to show it.

BIG BULL was once a little bull in the late 60's and 70's and guess what he grew up listening to on those hot summer days at the neighborhood pool??? Yup........CCR, America, Cat Stevens, Jim Croce, James Taylor, Chicago..........the list goes on!
Could this new BFL Challenge be a "creedence clearwater revival???" If I drink enough water it will be!
I am a "fortunate son" 'cause my parents grew up in the late 50's and I missed most of the late 60's/early 70's debauchery, so my mind is clear, my pee is clear and I am feeling a revival coming on "down on the BFL corner...out on the street...Jimmy and the Big Bull is playing...and they just can't be beat!!!"
Do you feel the revival?????????
Body for Life Forum Message by crone (483 posts) at 07:54 PM
Gosh, I'm an 80's child. I know a few of those songs. But my pee has been clear all day. So I guess I feel the revival.
Body for Life Forum Message by T~N~T (972 posts) at 07:57 PM
LOL Bull you and that peeing clear LMAO! You really have a thing for that. Ever since you mentioned that awhile ago I realized I too have that fascination LOL. I am so happy to see you are back! ;-)

Body for Life Forum Message by blemt (144 posts) at 08:40 AM
I'm a betagen advocate. The HMB in betagen works to help reduce DOMS. DOMS is actually a good thing. It means you really, really worked your body hard.
The key thing is not to skip a workout, drop weight if you have to, but don't skip. If it's still really bad on the day you are scheduled to do your next workout on that body area, try it first with very light weights, if you are just not feeling it, then hop onto a recumbant bike and do a low intensity 20-30 minutes.
You want to make sure that you don't get into the habit of missing workouts.

I just thought I'd take a moment to say hi to everyone. I'm new here (which I'm sure you've noticed) and I'll be starting up the challenge after the first of the year. I'm spending the time between then and now ridding the house of all the junky stuff that will keep me from my goals! If it's not in the house, it's easier to resist temptation until my free day ;)
This is my second challenge, though I didn't complete my previous one about 5 years ago. I decided I needed a gym and I started listening to a personal trainer there. I ended up overtraining and it started effecting other aspects of my life, and even contributed to the loss of my job at the time. Now, I have a gym on the military base I work at that I can use without a trainer trying to tell me what to do, a work out partner to keep me motivated, and a desire to make my life better. This time I WILL succeed!!! :)
I'm looking forward to getting to know you all better.
Tom

Well, here I am in all my glory. I have not yet been able to complete an entire 12 week challenge, but with your guys help, I know I can do it this time.
I'm starting C1 FOR THE LAST TIME January 2nd.
About me:
I'm 31 years old, 6' tall and weigh right at 280lbs. My dream of dreams would be to get down to a solid 210lbs.
I'm married and have have to sons. They are getting older, and I need to make sure my health is with me so I can play sports with them etc.
I'm really looking forward to building some relationships on this board. I know I can do it - with your help.
