Thread: I challenge YOU! 3 Goals for '06? (531 Views)

Body for Life Forum Message by Dick (3 posts) at 05:43 PM:
My 3 GOALS for 2006 #1. GOAL Do a personal best for each aerobic workout. For example I have maxed out on the elliptical machine at 20 on resistance with the interval weight loss program. I will change to the rowing machine and try to increase my distance during each workout. On the stairmaster, I am only at level 6 so lots of room for a personal best. On the treadmill, I am up to 6 miles an hour for 7 minutes and cool down until I reach 2 miles. Today I increased my time by 40 seconds. Still have room for a faster time and haven't raised the treadmill yet. # 2 GOAL do a personal best during my LBW & UBW. Yesterday I had 6 personal bests during my lower body workout. And on my last upper body workout only 1 personal best. But it still was a personal best. # 3 GOAL not to miss a workout and stay on schedule with my feedings using supplements. A complete transformation in 2006!!!with a 6 pack at the young age of 66. The result of the above GOALS I visualize myself standing on the stage as the Grand Champion in my age group.

I have a bowflex, can I use on any of my workout days or is it only dumbbells? I would hate to have this high dollar machine just sitting next to my bench!

Body for Life Forum Message by TJ (591 posts) at 08:03 AM:
I have gotten great results using a CrossBow (low budget version of your machine). About the only muscles group I can’t work out well are my legs. The resistance rods only go up to 230 or so. But overall, you can get good results with your machine.

Body for Life Forum Message by ocpanther65 (217 posts) at 11:51 AM:
You can definetly use a bowflex. I don't own one but have heard nothing but great things about them. As long as you eat clean and do the HIIT cardio you will see great results.

Thread: Anybody ever use the Gazelle?? (35 Views)

Body for Life Forum Message by angelic4077 (7 posts) at 10:52 AM: Anybody ever use the Gazelle??
Okay people. Viewing my profile anyone can see that I have a LOT of weight to lose. I am considering investing in one piece of exercie equipment so that I have no excuse not to exercise anyday of the week. Being that I am so heavy at this point on the program workouts that put a lot of pressure on my joints are not feasible... I sprained my ankle so bad at the end of October that I have been told if I do it again it means surgery. I have looked at the Gazelle exercise equipment. Has anyone ever used this with any kind of results? I tried it out at the local sporting goods store and it actually did seem to be causing my heart to pound, but I also want to start strenthening up muscles throughout. Anybody that has used this please let me know if you would recommend. Anyone else give your feedback as to what piece of equipment would be a great investment.

Body for Life Forum Message by ocpanther65 (217 posts) at 11:48 AM:
I have seen them but never tried one. I have had great success over the years with a recumbent bike. I love mine and pop in a video and ride it whenever.

Supplements most often have a two yr shelf life however they are still good well after that. Any manufacturer has to put a shelf life on any consumable or beauty product. I get my supplements very cheap from vitamin shoppe because the drop the prices alot close to expiration date. I just got three 42 serv boxes of myoplex for 12.00 a peice (thats right 12). They have an expiration date of march 2006.

Von, there is a guy currently posting on the BFL guestbook who is from Ireland. His name is Mark and I believe his last name is Coughlan. He at one time listed Belfast as a city of origin but I have no idea if he's still there. I saw a post from him yesterday and today about how to calculate body fat. He acts and sounds like a newbie but I recognize him from at least 3 years ago. He pops up about every year and posts for awhile and then goes away, so I'm not sure how reliable he might be, but it might be worth checking with him?

Well.. I used to be the constant jerk magnet. If he was a jerk...he would find me, ugh, I mean, I would date him. This has pretty much been my whole story. Yeah, there have been a few awesome guys mixed in, but the timing wasn't right, or I thought it was right, then during engagement, I decided it wasn't for me (for life). When I stopped looking, I found Mr. Right( just like everyone says). I had given up, and was at a NASCAR race, drunk off my ass, hanging out with my girlfriends, without a care in the world as far as men went. I figured...this is me, having fun, drinking and carrying on. Like it or oh well. Well, I actually fell into Mr. Right's arms (alcohol helped that), and we began dating. Yes...it was INSTANT. That had never happened to me. We got engaged in April (05) where we had met, at a NASCAR race, and just got married Dec. 2nd. Up until that race I always said I would NEVER get married again (I was married for a year when I was in the Army in 1992..another jerk magnet and huge mistake on my part). Love yourself, NEVER need a man to survive, and good things will happen. You owe it to yourself to be completely happy with yourself. Happy New Year...Dede

They did take a blood test and they will tell me that way. Reagiesmom: Yes, you can achieve a lower bodyfat and still get pregnant...however, you must "up" your bodyfat levels before you can get pregnant. When I did my competition a few months ago , I was at 12%...now, I'm about 22%. :-) I had to stop exercising all together so that I could get pregnant... my cycle never really showned up HA! :) I guess I got lucky...I probably won't have them for another 2 years! Thread: EFL Book...Kind of Disappointed (205 Views)

Body for Life Forum Message by J-Dub (130 posts) at 09:13 AM:
The reason the nutritional information isn't in the book is because Bill Phillips never intended for us to count calories. He wanted this to be a more instinctive way of eating, and besides, my portion of protein isn't the same as your portion of protein, so any nutritional values he put in there wouldn't be accurate anyway. In fact, the nutritional values on the web site aren't accurate because they're averages. And the only reason he ended up putting them up on the site are because people got all freaked out by not knowing the calorie counts and he got bombarded with requests for them. So now, we have nutritional information that isn't accurate because it isn't based on our individual portion sizes, lol.

Body for Life Forum Message by Hot Body (461 posts) at 12:44 PM:
WOW, Jennifer! Thanks SO MUCH for the link. What a great reference. (And I remember Jamie Brunner - one of those Champions I could instantly recall in my mind - I know exactly what he looks like!) And thank you, Framed, for the question that surfaced this for all of us. Yay!

Body for Life Forum Message by michiganmike (199 posts) at 01:35 PM:
I think the reason that the nutritional information was put on the web was because people who thought it was only a cookbook just jumped in and started cooking and eating the recipes, and--surprise, surprise--the women who were doing that gained rather than lost weight. That's because they never looked at p. 73 of the book where it says that the portion sizes are a split between what a man needs and what a woman needs, so the women were eating more than they should. Granted, the information on the web now is based on averages, but what isn't? We don't drink 92% of a Myoplex because we are a smaller guy than the average. The average person eating the average EFL recipe will lose a bit of weight if a male, and gain a bit of weight if a female.

Thanks for the link - any good recipes shared is awesome. If we get bored we're more likely to fall off the wagon.

Body for Life Forum Message by Tomcat1066 (10 posts) at 02:28 PM: Question about BFL and workout partners...
I just reread BFL again after loaning my first copy to someone ages ago and it never coming back. I had forgotten about the part were it says that we should time our rest between sets at 1 minute, and two minutes between exercises. I'll be doing my first challenge with a co-worker, so I was curious about the "rest time" between sets being to much. I figure one of us will start their set as soon as the other one is finished, but I was just worried about it being to much. Any thoughts? Tom PS. I hope I posted this in the right place.

It seems there are alot of people starting a new challenge at this new year.  Myself and Casey included.  After taking most of December off I will definitely be ready.  I can't wait to workout.

Tomorrows workout is going to be hard, I work until midnight tonight then have to work again at 8am tomorrow  but I think Casey and I are going to get our beginning pics taken after we work out tomorrow, so I will be looking pretty tired.  It will probably be one of those that I blank out my face again.  LOL

ANYWAY....Good luck to you all.

(Please, I mean this in the very best way!) You are beautiful, inside and out.

Body for Life Forum Message by BIG BULL (836 posts) at 05:13 AM: DO NOT OPEN THIS..............

Whaaaaattt??? YOU OPENED IT!!!!!

Since you are lacking in the "self-control" department and you opened this, you now must enter our inaugural event!!!

"THE 1st ANNUAL BFL-TRACKER CARDIO HIIT HELL RUN"

All entrants (people who opened this fool thread!) must throw down one more CARDIO HIIT HELL in 2005 before the clock strikes midnight

CARDIO HIIT HELL = 20 minutes of your fave cardio exercise done at your High Intensity Interval Training standards.  (BIG BULL will be on the elliptical...I JUST CAN'T WAIT!)

After you complete your "run" you must log your entry on this thread in the following manner:
   * Exercise chosen
   * Duration
   * Music listened to
   * The "POSITIVE THOUGHTS" you experienced
       from completing the

              "1st ANNUAL CHH RUN."

disclaimer: Please consult a physician before engaging in intense exercise of this nature.  Please do not do this on a full stomach or after the consumption of large quantities of alcohol.  Please refer all complaints to RUNNINGSOUTHERNSTYLE   (he gave  me the idea!)

Ill bite.... and since I gave BB the idea, I am posting my PEP talk for anyone having problems getting started today. After I did my six mile snow/rain run, I come back and see that I gave bull the idea for this. So I think cool, then I notice that 19 people have viewed and noone has posted. So I applied a fresh coat of body glide, put the track pants back on, changed to some dry socks and went out and did my HIIT HELL Challenge workout!! Exercise-more running Duration- 25 minutes Music- The Freshman (mustard plug cover) The sound of settling (death cab for cutie) Thigh Hi Nylons (mustard plug) Round kid (Buck O nine) Positive thoughts- see below Thats right 10x 1/4 mile repeats. After 6 miles this morning my legs felt like they had nothing left but I remembered what it was like to be told I wouldnt walk (at best with a cane) again. Thats right read that again. Thanks to the situation (Operation Iraqi Freedom) I was put in I got injured. BUT I walked out of the hospital unassisted 2 months later and collapsed in my car and cried like a baby for 2 weeks but I DID IT, and managed to stay in the Army but told that I couldnt run anymore, Well Im working on that part now. THE PAIN IS REAL BUT YOU CHOSE HOW TO DEAL WITH IT. Lets talk about motivation for a minute. I havent seen my wife in 7 months but I will on 1 FEB. The last time I saw her I had the pants on that I put on my side picture under the profile. I dont wanna be that big again. TRICKS FOR MOTIVATION: 1. SET GOALS, write them down on your mirror. I started doin this a few months ago, it seems crazy but it works! 2. Write down stupid things that drive you or make your work outs good. For me its the anticipation of a smile when the wife sees the new body and one day when i was running in the snow this old German man pulled up beside me, rolled down his window and shouted "RUNNING IS GOOD!!!!" In german, that made my day. and its on my mirror in german!!! 2. Contrary to popular belief, YOU ARE THE PROBLEM! Ok not so much you but the way you chose to deal with obstacles that get in your way. NEVER SAY YOU CANT, Think of how you can. 3. This is real dumb but it works for me. When I am dreading a run, like this morning, read Bulls posts and eat a lifesaver, yep a lifesaver. They might not be on the BFL food list but I tell my body that I just took a real LIFE SAVER and I go do what I gotta do. SORRY THIS IS SO LONG WINDED BUT I FELT INSPIRED..........

Every time I started to feel the pain and fatigue I pushed a little harder, I thought of all you Trackers running along side me on the last day of 2005! About the 15 minute mark it was CARDIO HIIT HELL for sure!!! I opted for Sportscenter and watching all those athletes doing extraordinary things to inspire me and when I was done, I just felt good all over that I completed the 1st ANNUAL CHH RUN! I was reading through Julie Whitt's blog again last night. And came across this: My point to all this is…if I can suck it up and deal with this kind of pain…why can’t you do the same regarding your life? We all have pain in life. Is it too painful to pose for that before picture? No problem. Just put on YOUR brave face and stand there. Click! It’s over. Problem solved. Is correcting your unhealthy habits too much to deal with? Put on your brave face and deal. It’s time to end the excuses—they are simply lies in disguise. I believe in each and every one of you. I know you have the courage to make this change. Don’t wait another day. "Courage is its own reward." (Plautus) I am so glad I came across this. It gave me the courage to just suck it up and post my C1W1 pictures. Ya, its awful but I'm changing my life and my body! So I won't focus on that...I'll focus on what 2006 has to offer. Thank you again Julie...for your thoughts...truly inspiring.

Right on, it's quite motivating to yourself when you put up that pic because then you know it's out there and the only way to smash it down is by succeeding. 10k is 6.21 miles...5k is 3.1 miles. The training for a 5k is basically the same as for a 10k. A 10k just is run at a slower pace than a 5k.

Okay, so the last couple of months have been hell. I have been eating horrible, not working out as much and dwelling on the past way too much. I lost my mom in a car accident 1 1/2 years ago and it has been a really tough holiday for me. My mom would be completly disappointed in my lack of determination. I did 1 official challenge in the summer and quit at 8 weeks(how stupid). I refuse to go back on this challenge. I will meet my goal and keep up this program for life. No Excuses in 2006!!! This site keeps me going every single day, you guys are great! Jess

Well I just applied and got turned down for health insurance. Because of my height and weight! What a slap in the face. I am going to try to at least get a short term major medical til I can figure out what to do. If I could drop about 90 lbs in 30 days it would help. AT least I am covered til the end of January. Ugh. What a way to end the year. I have had enough of this weight problem and it is going to be a problem no more.

I went to Weight Watchers the next month after I located it in my area (living very remote at the time). I didn't carry insurance on myself for at least a year, but I did drop 30 pounds. Now it is just time to drop more. Yes, VERY humiliating. VERY. Don't run to food now....beat it. Use the challenge to drop the weight and become healthy. What an awesome time of year to get this news! We will be your accountability partners...keep checking in! Teresa

Just for fun!! Love, Persephone Aries As the first sign of the zodiac, you are known for your speed. You dive into everything head first. Your strength is your energy and you should not find it difficult to get active. Your challenges lie in sticking to and committing to a routine. To counterbalance this tendency, you should practice working with other people. Normally an Aries prefers to work independently (everyone else is so slow!) but finding a workout partner who can encourage and inspire you will keep you dedicated to your goals. Spot the Aries: An Aries is the one in the gym who stands behind you impatiently letting you know he wants to get on the equipment you're using! Taurus As the most stubborn sign of the zodiac, you are known for taking your time. You need to know what you're doing is going to make you feel good! Your strength is your ability to stay with an established routine. Your greatest challenge is overcoming bad habits. To counterbalance this, you need to tap into your own psychology and feel why you are tempted to repeat a bad pattern. A Taurus is pretty good on the physical side of things but you also have to work on the internal--and that can be a little painful sometimes. Spot the Taurus: A Taurus is the one in the gym who shifts masses amounts of weights, breaks the machines and then munches the protein bar thoughtfully as everyone else freaks out over what to do! Gemini As the most talkative sign of the zodiac, you are known for your ability to avoid doing anything. . .except talking. You need to be able to share your ideas and thoughts--all the time. Your strength is your have-a-go-at-anything attitude. Your greatest challenge is tackling the heavy stuff, getting sweaty and avoiding the urge "modify" everything because you think you know better. To counterbalance this tendency, you need to understand and develop your own personal philosophy to health and fitness. This scratches the intellectual itch and gives you lots to think about so you stick to your routine--without changing it all the time. Spot the Gemini: A Gemini would be the one doing bench presses with 2lbs on the bar talking (endlessly) about his date last night. The only way to get him to get off the bench and stop him doing 100 more repetitions is to ring him on his mobile. Cancer Ah sweet Cancer. The smartest, kindest, most beautiful sign of the zodiac--did I mention I was a Cancer? Cancers are ruled by the moon so they are known to be a little moody. Their greatest strength is their ability to nurture everyone--but themselves. Their greatest challenge is to stay with the programme even on days they don't feel like it. They like to keep their tummies full too--it makes them nervous if they feel hunger. To counterbalance this, Cancers need to develop a rigorous reward system or be a part of a team competition. A Cancer would never want to be the one who lets down the team. Spot the Cancer: A Cancer would be the one who hides out in the changing room, slowly gathering the courage to come out and insists on his own private cubicle. Leo You're not going to miss a Leo. They won't let you! Your greatest strength is your ability to take pride in all you do. You want to be the best. Your greatest challenge is admitting that what you're doing might not be working as well as it should be. To counterbalance this tendency, you should be open to fresh ideas and innovations. As they say, a change is as a good as a rest. Spot the Leo: Try not to spot the Leo! He's the one checking his hair in the mirror all the time. Virgo Virgos are naturally inclined to look after themselves . Your greatest strengths are your organisational skills and your ability to follow a routine. Your greatest challenge is to stop making lists and get with the programme. Learn to love getting sweaty and smelly! To help with this, just imagine how much closer every bead of sweat brings you to perfection! Spot the Virgo: If the carefully packed gym bag full of toiletries doesn't give them away, their compulsive cleaning and shining of the equipment will. Libra Libras, like Taureans, are ruled by Venus and you are known for your physical beauty, charm and grace. Your greatest strength is that your usually polite and fun to be with. Your greatest challenge is to overcome your innate desire to turn everything into a social gathering. It's not a bad thing to turn the gym into a cocktail party--it's just not conducive to a good workout. To counterbalance this, you need to just get started! Don't stop to talk to your friends or kiss your partner first--get on with it. And stop putting so much sugar in your tea/coffee/protein shake. Spot the Libra: They're the ones wearing the pink fluffy leotard. Scorpio Scorpios can be quite an intensive experience. Your greatest strength is that you know yourself--and everyone else--pretty well. You thrive on knowing exactly how things and people work. Your greatest challenge is to stop taking everything so seriously--stop researching the ingredients of the protein bars, stop worrying about Bill Phillips' motivation for starting Body For Life. Let go. Relax. And stop eyeing up all the attractive people! Spot the Scorpio: Scorpios will be the ones at the front desk complaining about how expensive the gym fees are. Sagittarius Sagittarians are known for their love of adventure. Your greatest strength is your ability to have the confidence to try anything. Your greatest challenge is to accept responsibility, to get in control of your life. You have a wonderful sense of optimism but a strong need to be free of the shackles of routine. To counterbalance this, you need to focus on the little picture--it's the little things that add up to big problems Spot the Sagittarius: They're the ones really going for it on the treadmill--Sagis usually have long, lovely, strong legs. They'd run all the way to China and back if anyone would let them. Capricorns Capricorns are known for their love of hard work. Your greatest strength is your ability to set goals and reach them. Your greatest challenge is getting in touch with your emotions--it's so easy to lose your motivation if you can't remember why your goals are so important. To counterbalance this, a bit of quiet time to reflect on how you're feeling will help you get in touch with your feelings. Feelings are important too. Everyone has them. Spot the Capricorn: Capricorns have the uncanny ability to turn everything into a business opportunity--get too friendly with them and you'll find yourself recruited. For something. Aquarius Aquarians do things a little differently. Your greatest strength is your ability to do it for the world. It's not just a diet and exercise routine, it's a revolution. Doing Body for Life is your way of changing the world. Your greatest challenge is to do it for you--you're the one who wants the six pack. Let George W Bush worry about his own. Spot the Aquarius: They'll be the ones hanging upside from the lat machine. Pisces Pisces are known for their kindness and sympathy. Your greatest strength is your ability to dream. Your greatest challenge is to achieve that dream. Imagining a beautiful body isn't enough. Put some music into the headphones (so you can forget your legs are sore from the lower body work out yesterday) and chase that dream. Spot the Pisces: Try the Jacuzzi.

Thanks P! My Pisces boyfriend's is bang on. He has big plans (dreams) but I haven't seen anything yet (after 3 yrs). And he always has a really hot bath after a heavy workout! My Cancer hororscope is bang on too - for the most part. I hate to be hungry and worry so much about letting others down, I can't commit to a team challenge again. Pathetic! Goal setting is the hardest thing for me. I believe I fall short on the nuturing part too - though others may disagree. I think I could do better. And the part about the locker room is inaccurate for me too. I'm not shy in the changeroom at all.

I loved this thread you started. I really need to take the time to look back at what I did this past year, and what I want to accomplish in this upcoming year. Accomplished in 2005: 1) New daughter Ashley was born 2) Folded up my $$$$ losing law practice (never go into practice in a small town in which you did not grow up) 3) Finally fulfilled a goal I had been struggling to come to terms with for the past four years....I quit the practice of law and became a high school history teacher. 4) I got one of my students started on BFL. WILL accomplish in 2006 (in no particular order): 1) Convince every single student of mine that they are smart and are capable of accomplishing anything they set their mind too. 2) Six pack abs by August 3) Save enough money to go to BFL Expo 2006 (if there is one) 4) Grow closer to my wife and kids. 5) Grow closer in my relationship with Christ. Thanks again for starting this thread. Brian

Funny you should ask that, Every year of my life I have made a New Years Resolution and this year I didn't even think of it. I guess because before it was always a New Years Resolution and now since last Jan 24th it's become a way of life. BFL just changed my thinking and changed my lifestyle so much that I didn't have to think of a new years resloution this year. So for this year, I make my New Years Resolution to be the same as the commement I made when I took the 1st BFL challenge. To Become the Best that I can Be, both inside and out! But if you want to know real goals, here are my for 2006 1. Torch Challenge 2. Run my 1st 5K run at 52 years old 3. Take the BFL cruise in 2006 ( this will also be my 1st cruise)and wear a RED BIKINI on the cruise. 4. Become certified as a Personal Trainer 5. Become a Demo Gal for the BFL buddie coach website 6. enter and Become one of the finilist in my catagory for the 06 BFL Challenge 7. Become a spokesperson for BFL 8. Start and teach a BFL training program at my GYM 9. Get my weight back down to 128 lbs like the day Bill and I got married 23 years ago 10.Get my body fat percentage down lower then it has ever been, when I was 128 lbs I was 25% BF% and I looked good, but this time I want to be 128 lbs and about 18-20% BF and have alot of beautiful muscles to show off All These Resolutions/goals will be met by the day I board the BFL cruise June 19,2006 WOW< if I get all this accomplished in the 1st 6 months of the New Year and I promise, I WILL GET*HER*DONE!! Just think what the 2nd half of the Year will be like, either explosive or very boring, lol Happy New Year Love, GET*HER*DONE LINDA

3. Make it to the gym 98% of the time, I feel SOOOO much better when I do!

With the new year approaching, I started digging out old photographs that my wife and I never seemed to get into photo albums. They were just sitting in boxes in the garage. Anyway, I started looking at pics of myself, and though, "Man, I was fat back then, and I was 40 lbs lighter in the picture than I am now" It's both depressing and motivating at the same time. Make sense? Here's to a Happy New Year for all, and may you achieve all the goals you set for self.

Hi! I'm kind of new here (this is my first post), but I'm just ending week 4 of my first challenge now. I've posted my befores (yikes!!), and am really looking forward to posting some nicer afters!!! I put my scale away during week 1, as I got too frustrated and discouraged by the lack of change in my weight (I know, I know, 3 days is not a realistic time frame to drop 10 lbs, but a girl can dream, can't she?). I don't know if I've lost any weight yet, but I took my measurements last night, and at the end of 4 weeks, I've lost a whopping 1 cm off most parts. I expected it would be a bit more than that... How long does it take to see results? I've missed 2 workouts, but I'm eating well, and other than those 2, I'm doing well on the exercise. I'm wondering if I should see more drastic changes by now, or does it really take longer than this for some people? I have about 10 lbs to lose (15 would be even better) from when I started, and I'm 5'5 tall. Any thoughts? Thanks! And Happy New Year!

Body for Life Forum Message by Flower (2119 posts) at 04:30 AM:
I've commented on this topic in the past several times; actually I'm quite interested. I read a book several years ago written by a doctor (cannot for the life of me remember his name) that is solely based on this subject. He describes how all organs are affected by build-up and toxins in the bowel. Take tonsils & appendix for example. According to him they are both greatly affected by toxins; they get inflamed or rupture from toxins and you either remove them for comfort or to save your life. He alikens it to a fire in your house - you put out the fire, you don't remove the fire alarm. This is one of many examples he uses and this one is a simple one of toxin build-up that is attributed to the bowel. I have no medical background whatsoever but I do remember thinking how his theories made total sense. What initially got me interested was my bloated protruding belly and reading that many models, movie stars, marathon runners (even Princess Di) made regular visits for "deep" colon cleansing using distilled water. Yeah if you're not into "anal" its weird. Anyway what I specifically remember was it was about $40 a visit, I was told I'd need 8 to 16 the first few are just for "loosening". Anyway, what is most significant, yes my belly went down a bit almost like a "light" feeling, but it was my saliva!! For about 2 days after it felt different like my mouth was producing clean spring water not saliva, it was weird and clean feeling LOL. I think the John Wayne thing might be a stretch like what was said above but lets face it what goes in doesn't necessarily always come out now does it? I don't know what could be in those pills to produce um such a production but I always like to think that I'm thinking logical as in its something to irritate the bowel therefore its got to be a "poison" to do such. I'd really like a good solid logical explanation of what they are doing as opposed to a laxative. Sorry for the length but sh** can be discussed to no end.

Thread: Muscle Soreness (121 Views)

Body for Life Forum Message by ocpanther65 (217 posts) at 11:59 AM:
Initially, you should avoid any vigorous activity that increases pain, though you may work the unaffected areas of your body. By exercising unaffected areas or by performing low-impact aerobic activities such as biking or walking at a moderate pace, blood flow can be increased to the affected muscles, which may help diminish soreness. Other measures include applying ice, gently stretching, and massaging the affected muscles, which may be helpful for some people and poses little risk if done sensibly. Also, nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory medications like aspirin or ibuprofen may reduce the soreness temporarily, though they won't actually speed healing. These medications are available over the counter, and they can be prescribed by physicians in greater strengths. And there is some evidence that vitamin C may decrease soreness. Finally, you should allow the soreness, weakness, and stiffness to subside thoroughly before vigorously exercising the affected muscles again, and don't forget to stretch and warm up before your targeted activity.
