Moderate exercise several times per week.
Background:
I began BFL in September 2007--I had put on a few pounds & most of my wardrobe was getting very snug. Mentally I was rather down- due to my father's declining health and a stressful job from which I had recently resigned from in order to devote more time to my family's needs. I had always loved exercise, but I felt that perhaps I had reached the age where it was necessary to stop eating like a teenager :) I completed my 1st challenge before the holidays in 2007 and went on to do 7 more before competing in a Figure Competition in March 2010. I took 2nd place in my Masters age group. One week after my competition, my father had a stroke and consequently passed away in June of 2010. This event caused me to evaluate many aspects of my life and I determined I no longer desired to train for figure or body building type competitions. And,I discovered that the body injures much easier at half a century. I incurred what seemed to be a string of tenodinitis type injuries in 2010-and now realize that my body needs a little more recovery time than it used to require. So currently, I doing more cross training and have added swimming to my repertoire in the last 6 mos. It is a love hate relationship-as someone who did not learn to swim until age 50--I will never be a great swimmer--but I find that I love how my body feels when I swim--I guess it appreciates a break from all the pounding of running and lifting. I am swimming a half mile a couple times a week now and hope to complete a mile swim by the end of June 2011. Maybe a tri-athlon will be in the future?
Goals:
By end of June:
Lose 5 pounds
Swim 1 mile
2 Wide-grip Pullups without assist
30 Push-ups
