Is this hurting my gains(losses) I work a weird shift 3pm to 11pm an this is the best time i have to get in a workout.

We all reset to zero i just want it to take a little longer.

Whatever your schedule allows. It really doesn't matter when you do your workout, just so long as you do it.

Your midnight is just like someone else's 6pm ... with your shift it's not like you're up for work again at 6am.
As long as you're eating well and sleeping well you're good-to-go!

I hate after work workouts! I just dread it! Bad mood before I get the the gym. Lots of people visiting, sitting on equipment while visiting, standing in front of the free weight racks.... while visiting... "excuse me", "excuse me", not moving while Im trying to re rack 45lb dumbbells. I wish I had a fully loaded home work out room at home.

Someday's I will bump weight lifting to after work. If I am really sore or have an early meeting, I don't see any problem with an 8 hour offset.

I still tend to like aerobic workouts when I wake up though. I have the impression that it keeps the metabolism going a bit stronger though the day.

As long as the workout doesn't end 30 minutes before bed, I think you are probably good!

99 Leny,

It could be in my head, but if I lift right before bed:

I stiffen up something terrible by the morning, and I wake up feeling really sore.

I suspect there may be several factors. 1) I don't move around and get as much stretching by going straight to sleep. 2) Lactic acid might build up worse. 3) I may not rehydrate because I'm sleeping. 4) I may not get a good dose of protein post-workout. 5) My metabolism might slow in general and not excrete waste from the cells as efficiently.

I don't know if those would apply to everybody, but I've just had rough experiences when I've slept for more than two hours within 30 minutes of a workout. I wake up feeling like I've got the flu when I do.

-Andrew
