Eat the boring food and bust your A$$
Thoughts from ChickenTuna at her site www.bunklers.com
Eat the boring food and have an exciting body!
It seems as though many people who are fit, claim to love working out and eating healthy. That baffles me, I dread working out most days and eating healthy food is not so great compared to the deliciousness of all the fried cheesy foods and of course all pastries and desserts. Do some people really love working out so much? Or are they confusing the process with the results? I don't like working out , but I love being fit so I suck it up and do my workout everyday even though I usually don't feel like it.
I’ve discussed the topic with other people I know who exercise regularly, and it turns out, most can relate to me not being crazy about the workout process and they have also even admitted to not liking it. After all, it is a process of pushing your body to the limit, working hard, getting off your lazy ass and sweating,… and being consistent about it every week. I love the results, but the process is so hard. I would rather be sitting on the couch and eating chips, so if you don't like exercising either you are completely normal.
So what do you do when you want to be in shape but you don’t like working out and eating healthy? Admitting it is the first step. I admit it, working out can be a thorn in my side many days....(almost every single time, frankly) Then I face reality.... it is truly the only way to get in great shape. There are no magical pills or tricks, if there were I would be first in line.
So I suck it up do it anyway, even though I don’t feel like doing it many times. This grueling process is the only way to have a truly fit body and I try to do it better all the time. Since the process itself sucks, I keep myself motivated by the fact that I will actually keep getting in better shape as long as I keep up with this torturous process. If I keep at it and never slack off, I will only get better and that keeps me at it. If I start canceling workouts and skipping weeks, all my hard work will go to waste. I turned FORTY on December 16 2007 and I am still always trying to improve. Some people I know have suggested that I am in great shape because of genetics which is hilarious. I would love to see what I would look like now had I not been busting my ass for the last 17 years. My genetics are perfectly capable of looking like total crap if I stop exercising and eating right.
If I can drag my lazy ass up for a workout almost everyday, then anybody who desires to be fit can do it. There is NO magic, you have to bust your ass.

More Nuggets from her site:
Boring Workouts
"I'm bored with my workouts, and I think cardio is very boring...." --One of the silliest workout excuses ever.
Oh really,... are you bored working out? Well no shit,... it 'IS' boring. I've done a lot of exciting things in my life so far and working out is certainly not one of them. It is just something that needs to be done on a regular basis if you would like to keep yourself fit.
You know what is even more boring than working out though? How about trying on all your clothes and having them not fit, .... with fat rolls and jiggles everywhere, and a cellulite party all over your ass. That just may be a little bit more boring than working out.

Lol Nicole!!!
I understand what she's saying or trying to say to people, but I disagree with her. I have never been bored in a CrossFit workout or even when I was doing BFL workouts (although they kinda bore me now). And as for eating boring foods? My kids get stoked when I really crack down on my eating because I start making more interesting (but healthy) foods than my normal meals. Healthy food doesn't have to be boring.

If she's bored with workouts then she's never tried clean and jerks for time .... or reps of clean and snatch ..... or 100 burpees for time .... or tire flips .......
yeah, she looks hot, but I'm guessing that's all she's got. I doubt that she is fit, by my definition.
The food part, i do agree with, mostly. You have to get creative with spices and combinations to keep it palatable .... which requires effort and/or research.
salvation à la mode and a cup of tea.

One more thing I'd like to add...
Insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting a different result.
If you are going 4 weeks with no changes, then shake it up vigorously, not just a little.
CHANGE ONE THING and stay with that change for four weeks.

Well, I completely agree. I think working out isn't usually very fun. That's just me. I mean, I love the results but I'm not programmed to love it. Not saying that there aren't things I kinda like to do but I'd rather sit on the beach and read.
I do like to eat healthy mainly b/c I prefer veggies and can't stand fried foods (except FRENCH FRIES which I adore more than some of my kids). And, unless I'm pregnant, I'm not a sugarholic.
Anyway...

Interesting thread! I guess I am in the minority...I absolutely love to work out. It is the best part of my day and I look forward to breaking through mental and physical walls and doing something every day to say, "I love you!" to myself.
Food is the same way. I love fatty, sugary foods. But I have found that I can only truly enjoy them, really revel in their yummy "badness" if it isn't an every day occurrence.
I have huge respect for you folks that don't feel the way I do. What an accomplishment to live a healthy lifestyle when you don't enjoy the road there! It is really inspiring.

I actually enjoy working out. Of course there are days I have to force myself because I'm being lazy. But overall, I enjoy it. I love getting physical and pushing myself.

Bahahahahaha! Nicole! Her boobies = same reason clown shoes look silly. Oversized = comedy!
Okay, so as someone who never plans to have a website devoted to my hotness (which is a real disappointment, I know)...I would like to add my thirty-seven cents.
I think it is important to point out that if you want to have a body that is website-hotness-ready, you have to bust your arse and eat broiled chicken breasts (*gag*).
However, at this stage in my life (60 pounds lighter than I was at my non-pregnant heaviest 7 years ago), I am all about balance and attempting to make a healthy lifestyle fit into my insane world. Sometimes that means I do bodyweight exercises while I wait for PhotoShop to finish running a batch process. Sometimes it means I go for a very long power-walk. Sometimes it means I lift big ass weights and run 3 miles...but at any rate, I'm trying to do SOMEthing as often as I can.
As for boring food, PSHAW. Boring food is also fine if you have resigned yourself to that -- but there is a whole WORLD of healthy recipes and wonderful flavors out there that are the complete and utter opposite of boring. It is just as lazy to throw in the towel and say, "Screw it. I'm going to eat broiled chicken breasts" as it is to say, "Screw it. I'm going to eat a Quarter Pounder with Cheese." Healthy cooking takes planning and work....but it pays off, just like working out.
Again, it all comes down to choices. What can a person live with? I cannot live without insanely delicious food -- not to mention the occasional treat. Life is WAY too freaking short to miss out on the good stuff. It's also way too short to pig out on the good stuff.
In fact, it will be even shorter that way. Ha.
I have a saying that I use from time to time: I believe in obsessive moderation. I may never fully achieve it, but I work on it constantly. When the scales tip too far in either direction, something suffers.
But yeah, I enjoy working out, for the most part. I like the time to myself, for one thing. I enjoy the benefits most of all -- but some of those benefits include things like....working out, ie: getting to do more, lift more, run faster, farther, etc.

I don't like working out, but I like the results.
About the most positive thing I can say about working out is:
Eventually, it stops hurting for hours after you work out... and you only hurt during the workout. ;-)
That's why I use the audio timers that I built and everything. My workouts are completely on Auto-Pilot. Refer to the chart for lifting levels, workout to the sound of the ticks. 5sec per lift. 1up. 1hold. 2release. 1 hold.
At best, I focus on the 30-60 minutes of workout as the fraction of my day where I'm actually doing something positive for myself.
When I only have another 30sec to sprint at 9mph and my heart is exploding... I think... I'm going to be sitting in my rear the rest of the day... what's 30 seconds? Later I'll look back and go, "Why couldn't I just hold on for another 30 seconds?"... so I push though.
Just me though. I think folks who love exercise are a bit looney. I think people who know the value of exercise and are willing to do it are cool!
